Okay so I'm pretty sure I missed this by a DAY, not even. Called, left a VM on Friday. No response.
I really like how it appears 100% stock on the outside. Sleeper for sure. I think the fuel system is a little excessive. That pump is $780 new!!!! LOL
http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/5066357993.html
I just called him and he picked up, your good car is still for sale.. I got him down to $3500 by just asked what his best price was, so I'm guessing theres more room to move.. maybe $2900-$3200
Ooh that's a nice sleeper
Or fix the Black Cougar up like this one ;)
On the sleeper thing most people think my Thunderbird is stock.......
Really.
I guess I'll call again. Maybe he just didn't get my message. Sheeit.
Bob did he happen to say whether or not it was in driving condition?
Better to have too much pump as opposed to not enough. I think the lines are a good size.....
Mine is still available if things don't work out......
Stay tuned.
And don't say anything on Facebook lol
You still have the XR7? I thought it sold?
No, i had two people flake on me........... still available.
Wow. That sucks :(
I need to indoctrinate one of my friends and have them buy it. Dammit, I am sick and tired of being the only visible Fox Thundercat fiend around my hometown!!!
So many people know me as being "the Cougar guy". I wanna SEE 'em. I need to have someone else drive down the road in my car and let me watch, just so I can see what it looks like LOL
Its all good, i will find the right buyer eventually. I am slowly fixing up the small faults, and as i do the price will rise or i will just keep her.
I'll trade you my Mark VII as a parts car for you Mark VII for the Cougar :hick:. I promise not to do anything crazy to it and leave it stock. Really I do.
Sorry just seeing this.. he said it needs to be towed. Be careful make sure the engine and procharger are good... you don't want to be buying someone headache. If it was me selling the car I would have taken the supercharger off and sold the kit on corral or something and sold the car running if possible.
He said he "ran it through the gears up and down the street" but that's it. So apparently it can at least be driven onto a trailer. I'll have my truck and my cousin's trailer.
But I'm gonna be crawling all over everything, looking at and smelling all fluids, etc. I want to hear it run and hear the supercharger. Would prefer to be able to take the belt off and check the pulley. I'll see what I can get away with but I'll totally walk if I see dumb things like wiring nightmares, etc.
He wouldn't send me any pictures but insists "absolutely rust free" and "interior is flawless". When I asked "Any electrical gremlins, does everything work?" he paused and said "Yeah everything works". I can't resist checking it out, might be worth it. But if it's not, I'm not gonna try and make it worth it.
Wiring fixes can generally be pretty easy to fix, and would make an excellent haggling point if necessary. Id tell the guy i wouldn't buy a supercharged motored car that i couldn't see run unless the price was the same as a non supercharged car that didn't run.
Too many variables, especially if the wiring was hacked. One car i bought, the guy hooked his battery up backwards and burned out all the fuses and fuseable links and thought the whole thing was burned up.
After i looked it over and he produced the title, i talked him down to $400, hit the junkyard and pulled a new fuseable link harness, popped the battery out of my neon, fired the car up and guy said the price went up, even after money exchanged hands and he handed over the title.
My black cat is far from rust free, albeit in just two areas - front rails are SHOT and so are the inner door bottoms - I failed to check the doors when I looked at it. The car sure hides it all well though, it is beautiful but this fact remains, so if this one does have that going for it, that's worth a lot to me alone.
I can totally handle electrical work...if all of the car's accessories work, as claimed, I won't be so worried if I see an alarm system or boost retard, etc added in half-assedly. As long as it doesn't cripple the car lol. We'll find out tomorrow!
SO
In case anyone's hanging off of a cliff, it is mine now. :)
I'm super busy this week so the cleanup and tinkering will have to wait a bit. BUT, sneak preview: dashtop is *almost* flawless, and the seatbelts, console lid and *gasp* radiator support are. Drove it onto a trailer with the full assistance of the engine, transmission, and brakes. I don't know what bad superchargers sound like, but this thing reminds me exactly of when a relatively tame appearing vehicle pulls into the meet but then you hear that constant WHEEEEEW and go "WHOOOA WAIT A SEC" lol
Congrats glad you got it.. Your gonna have to start a thread when you get into it so we can follow along
Yeah if I don't at least put up pictures the Vinnie Police will be after me soon! LOL
Congrats!
So are you keeping the back Cougar or using these two cars to make one solid car?
If the supercharger checks out, tell everyone your power steering pump is on its way out.
I have no idea what exactly I'm going to do I just make shiznit up as I go LOL.
I want to keep both cars. The black 5speed-Trick-Flow one is far too nice just to s. I'd feel horrible doing that. By the end of this year I'll be able to swing having the front rails fixed and then do a motor. I'll probably have the local machine shop take care of both heads, whatever they find, instead of gambling on some random person's used wares, re-ring and balance the rotating assembly and put humpty-dumpty back together again. It was a great combo. I was used to the power, it "seemed" slow in higher gears but still always a blast.
Stax - definitely going to give it a shot, they might buy it!! It has just a little clunk rotationally...I'm guessing that's just the meshing of the gear drive. Can't move the shaft all over the place though...so I think the bearings are good?
Now you'll have three Cougars? shiznit man I still need one :mullet:. Stop buying all of them.
Dude honestly...I feel like I'm saving them from a plight. The stick car was just sitting basically on the Long Island coast being driven rarely, with a dirty MAF, shot brake booster, ruined clutch cable. This one might have been a donor car. I don't care if they're ever valuable or not, I don't want to have to say "oh man look 15K for that all day long I coulda spent a fifth-a that back when..."
And, AND, not only do I keep them relevant around here (in my own mind anyway) but I'm twisting up the image. All three are modified, so with enough operant conditioning, people will just assume they're supposed to be fast LOL
I got yours right here........ not so subtle hint......
I would totally do it but I have no space for it or extra money right now.
Lol. I still love leaving a light hard in the Thunderbird or rolling along great at 20mph and nailing the throttle so the car goes sideways and getting looks from people. Not "oh that's cool" looks but "wtf is in that old man's car?" looks :rollin:
It's strangely bittersweetly glorious...it just blows people's minds every time.
People usually have this face when I do it :wtf:
What ever happened to this car. Zonda, do you still have it?

I need to make an update. Just fired it this weekend after sorting out some half-assed nonsense. Not to say there isn't more work to do, but what a relief. I've got two months til Cruisin' Ocean City in MD, but it might as well be tomorrow. Been sleeping very little LOL
What neighborhood did you pick it up from?
It was in Patchogue. The guy was pretty sure he'd either talked to you at one point or at least seen your car around.
He managed this apartment complex, place was literally right on the water. I actually still have his number and name. I should send him pictures of the engine bay empty with the rot areas peeled apart LOL. That should actually be getting fixed up within the next month!
Saw the pics in the other thread. I *think* this car had a set of ROH Snyper wheels on it at one point if it's the one I'm thinking of.
ROH ZS's. Which are some of the best wheels I've seen on an 87/88 cat. Was basically an insta- as soon as I saw the pictures on the CL ad. :rollin:
He loved that car. I think his wife loved it even more. That was a really fun trip. Tough winter to get through, could not WAIT to drive it the next spring.
Yeah, I remember it now. I used to see it all the time actually. We've spoken. Was wondering whatever happened to it. Last time I saw it was about 7 years ago. It was immaculate back then.
