Title: Temp guage and temp sending unit
Post by: My10-80 on July 05, 2014, 12:16:21 AM
My temp gauge has quit working on the car.  It just sort of quit.  It was working, but not correctly.  Some times it would raise a little as I drove other times it didn't but eventually it just quit.  I have read the whole posting that's fresh regarding the temp gauge and I just don't think that posting helps me.  I bought the sending unit first as the cheapest and easiest attempt to correct my problem.  But, well, I have to ask.  I've looked all over for it and I can't seem to find it or if I am looking at it I don't recognize it.  Can someone help me with its location.  I'm really hoping I don't have to pull the plenum off to get at it.

This would be for my 86 5.0.

Thanks for any help

Which instrument cluster?

The base cluster uses the same sender as a 5.0 Mustang.

The digital cluster uses the same sender that the EEC-IV processor uses as the ECT sensor.

In any case here's where they are on a 5.0:

The base cluster is what I have.

thanks Thunderjet for the information.  I will have to take another look around that distributor to find the temp sender.  I still figure that is the cheapest and first place to start looking for the cure.
