Title: Possible new Toy/DD
Post by: 1BadBird on May 30, 2014, 12:37:47 AM
I found a 83' T/C 5spd with a blown engine (hole in side of block). The guy has a 87' T/C 5spd that runs good but is in desperate need of cosmetic surgery. Both for $2000. The guy has documentation for the 83' that they are the 2nd owners and that the original owner was meticulous with maintenance. The guys son said that the engine blew while he was making a left turn and in between gears while the clutch was pushed in..................hmmmmmm

87' T/C Parts car that would donate it's heart for the 83' T/C below and then sold as a roller. I won't have time to part it out.

The original TRX wheels come with the car. Other than wheels, slight lowering and engine swap, I'd leave this one "As Is"
Oh, I'd also tint the windows

What do you all think??
Oh ya, forgot to mention that the 83' has only 48k miles on it according to the maint records the original owner had kept

wow!  Nice find.  I'd give that price for the both of them together.  I think that's a fair deal considering it's a 5 speed.  If it was an automatic parts car I would talk him down more.

I've seen this car on Craigslist. I have been tempted to buy it but don't have the space/time for it. I think that I have pictures of that 83 from a car show several years ago. I'll check when I get home. From what I remember it was a clean car. I think when i last saw it the original owner still had it. He was an older gentleman. I think it even had the same wheels it does now. Too bad the TRX wheels are so expensive to buy tires for. They look pretty awesome.

If you can though buy it :D

Can't go wrong. Parts alone you can make it up.

The down side of the 83' is the paint. It's been resprayed at some point some-what poorly, which I didn't see on the maintenance records. It will need a good stripping , not like my 86', and then repainted correctly. Lou, you're correct sir, the interior is very nice/clean. Although it's porno red, it works.
As far as the 87' goes, the engine runs sweet despite having rotten gas in it. It STANK when he started it and let it run.
I would just get rid of the roller. I won't have time to part it out. I'm hoping to make the 83' drivable and get rid of the 87' before I make my move to Texas at the end of June or July.

That '83 looks nice...too bad you couldn't have bought it off the original owner before the 2nd owner could get the chance to blow it up!

Hmmm, that Silver 83 would make a hell of donor car for my rebuild.......why is everything good, so  far away.  Drop a 5.0, swap interior, new paint, have a good day.

Actually that 83 is a different car than the one I photographed at a show 9 years ago. I found the pictures. Similar wheels though. The 83 I photographed had a gray interior.

Post up if you get them.  I am scheduled to meet the guy this weekend and trade for my Mark.

If you don't, how are they, body/rust wise?

83' no rust just a (to me) bad repaint some time before current owners. Other wise a great clean car with lots of potential!!
87'...........lots of body work to be done, nice interior though. Didn't notice rust but I was mainly looking at it for the engine/trans. It looks like I'm not able to get them and make the move to Texas as well. I wish you luck in the trade if he goes for it.
I forget where in Indiana you live.

Awesome, thanks!

I am in South Bend.  I talked to him for quite some time Monday.  The logistics are an issue for me as well, but if they are worth it, I am down.  My Mark has been sitting for months, so it makes sense to move it, especially for something I want more than the Mark.
