Anybody know if any aftermarket gauge pods would look decent on the 80-82 Thunderbird A-pillar?
I would like to add a temp/oil gauge, but I don't really wanna take out the clock or hack up the ash tray, or the radio, or lose any heat vents, lol.
I was wondering if you ever came up with a pillar pod that worked for the 80-82 T-birds and Cougars?
I have an 80 T-Bird and want to add a pod as well... to utilize one or two 2-1/8" gauges. I already hacked up my panel and deleted the ash tray. I'm hoping I can find a pillar pod that has a close shape to match up to the 80-82 pillar.
Try the FOUREYEDPRIDE forum...Lot of Zephyr/Fairmont guys on there....They may have some ideas of something that will work.
I didn't go with the gauge pod idea after all. I just modified the left vent area. I cut the top half of the vent out and installed two 1.5 inch gauges there. I have my oil and temp, plus I still have the bottom half of my vent. It all worked out. I'll post a pic next time I have a camera around my car, heh.
I'd like to see how that turned out.
I'll also try the FOUREYEDPRIDE forum. I know the 80-82 T-bird basically has the same dash as the Fox body LTD up to around 1985 0r 1986, because my center console I have in my bird came out of an 85 LTD LX, so maybe the A-pillars are the same too.
I was looking through some pictures on my camera, and what do you know, I already had a picture of my gauge mod. I must have alzheimers. Sorry for the poor quality photo, it was just a dash shot for my craigslist ad. But you can see what I did. It was nice to find the Sunpro gauges that had the same black/blue theme as the factory gauges. I just wish the needles were white, then they'd be a perfect match.
Wow, that was pretty creative. I never thought to try that.
I saw your car on Craigslist when I was browsing last week.
Wanna buy it? LOL
I am about to pull the ad. I have had 5 appointment no-shows these last couple weeks. To quote Sweet Brown, "Ain't nobody got time for 'dat".
I am about to plop an explorer 302 in it and keep it.
I wish I could add get a second T-bird but my wife already frowns because all the time (and money) I spend on my 80.
I think you should just keep it. That way, you wont look back in a few years and regret getting rid of it. I sold my 68' Camaro over 18 years ago and could kick myself for doing so.
Oops, too late ;)
Somebody bought it last week.
I am sure I will regret it, that's what I do. Sell 'em, regret it, buy another one, fix it up, get bored, sell it, regret it, repeat. I'm a little nuts like that. OK, very nuts like that.
I went Mopar this time, I bought a '94 Ram conversion van. I needed a big hauling vehicle for my next project.
I still have my 85 XR-7, so I am still allowed to post here, LOL.
