The Sport goes to get painted. Most all of the bodywork is done. Body and jambs getting done. Not concerned under the hood right now. I'll tend to that later. Pulling the hood to get it painted as well on the bottom. Having an extra scoop insert painted as well as the body side trim and mirrors. If I don't like the whole green look, adding the black to it is easy. Should be back in business in about 2 1/2 weeks or so. Also having the c-pillar emblem holes welded shut and leaving them off as well to smooth it up a bit.
I look forward to seeing the Sport this time around. I have thought of painting my LX trim the body color when I reach that point..( Have a long way to go)...Cant wait to see some pics.
Sweet !!!
I'll post some pics of it before, during and after. I was planning on spending the day doing more prep work, but my daughter got ill so my wife took her to the ER and that was a 7 hour adventure, so I spent the day watching the tiny man. It was worth it. He's the coolest guy ever. Once I got home, I did manage to pull the gas lid off, seal some holes where the trim was, and re-align the passenger side exhaust pipe. Now....TV time before work tomorrow through Thursday....nearly 13 hour days, so no love for the Sport until Friday early morning when I pull the 1/4 windows, lights and header panel. Ready to get this over with. I did order the new replacement Mach 1 chin spoiler and now I have to find a new trunk script for the "Thunderbird" emblem. Good times.
Can't wait to see the pics Vinnie :D
Actually, I can't wait either. It'll be nice having the Sport back in shape again.
Be here waiting V-man.
New paint and intake?
NOT swapping the intake !!!! LOL. I'm ready to get the car together and quit for a while. Just sit back and enjoy the old Bird.
about time you slow down with those intake swaps! lol
Once I get the SPort back together, and bolt in some new seats.....I'm going to be done with the old girl for a while. Then, looking for a cheap beater to drive daily.
Tomorrow is the day. Before I drop the car off, I've got to pull the lights and inner door panels, dew wipes and mirrors. In actuality., that's not a big job. Then, the Sport will gone for a week or two. I hate leaving the old girl anywhere but home.
LOL Ya right Vinnie :rollin:
Well........ You did say "for a while" :D
Nope, I'm really going to find a py little car to drive daily and let the Sport rest under a cover til weekends or special days. I will get a car that can take a door in a parking lot and won't bother me. Just something to drive ten miles a day in, and maybe the salvage yard every once in a while.
Well, the Sport is officially at the shop.
Long weekend ahead for you then huh V-man. :birdsmily:
So, What do you drive for a few weeks?
I'm trying to get the Escape done, but we have the wife's car. I have to work Monday through Thursday, so she can take me and pick me up. She's on vacation, and I work 12 (actually 13) hours a day.
The color is about a shade darker than the Sport's current color. It'll look great with tinted windows, color matched trim and the tiny black pin stripes.
It'll be nice to rest a bit. May do some tail light resto work. The front lights are all new.
Should of bought that little brother Pinto up had it matched to your girl.
That would've been perfect. I'll never forget that little green car.
You should get a Mark VII as a DD ;).
I gave the "O.K." to go ahead and weld up the c-pillar mounting holes for the emblems, and weld up the antenna hole on the fender. I may purchase a hidden antenna later. I am not installing one of those little fins on the Sport's roof.
A mark VII would be cool, but I want a little beater car. 4 cyl. motor, great on gas, and it doesn't matter if somebody smacks their door into it at any parking lot. I have the Sport for the "looks" and fun.
Yea it's nice to have a beater small trucks are the best because you can fit rear ends and motors in the back lol
I haven't started looking yet. I'm watching the funds because when the Sport gets back home, I have to throw some more parts on before we're mostly done.
I put this one in my truck and it actually gives better reception than the stock antenna. I think it was $20 or $25.

Vinnie, i dont know how bad the winters get down there but 4x4 rangers are everywhere. The 2.9s are pretty decent motors and have decent mileage that or a bronco II. Theyre everywhere or a little 2.2l s10
Ah I got ya. You know another option that's good on gas and can haul parts (if need be) is a GM A-body (Buick Century, Oldsmobile Ciera) wagon. They get good mileage, even with a 6 cylinder, and as an added bonus you can throw parts in the back and keep them out of the weather. Plus they are cheap, cheap, cheap and reliable. I'd look for a 93 and down wagon with the 3.3 V6. They are pretty bullet proof.
As far as the entenna, I saw one likt that and it would be mounted behind the header panel, or some other never to be seen area.
For the beater car, not sure. Just waiting to see what's available when the time comes. I got the Escape for almost nothing. As long as it's cheap and dependable, I'm good. Radio and a/c are not necessary. Heat and water proof on the inside is.

Baby sport !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would rock the hell out of that lol
Just don't get t boned
They are hoping to have paint on the Sport around Wednesday, followed by a few coats of clear. I'll get the old girl assembled, then pics. I may have some "in progress" pics tonight. Gotta get my son to help my upload the pics. LOL. It's going to be a couple of shades darker than it was, and it'll have a gentle goldish tone to it as the metal flake is light gold in color in the darker green. Dupont "Pop Green Effect". It looks great when the sun hits it.
Nice can't wait to see it
It'll probably blow everyone's mind.....me included.
Cant wait to see the "NEW SPORT"....... Its like a kid at Christmas huh Vinnie?
Yes it is. After the hail damage, I just lost interest for a while, then decided I had to do what I had to do....Get the Sport in shape again.
Hey Vin.'...Whats the update on the Sport?..
o.K....Update.... The Sport is still in the shop. He's going all out on the body work. LOT'S of block sanding and doing it the right way. This coming week, the Sport should be it's new shade of Dupont "Pop Green Effect". It'll be about a shade and a half darker than it was. After paint this week, clear coat, then color sanding and buffing.
I have to re-install the 1/4 windows and a lot more parts when I get it back, along with all of the door seals from the car I pulled them from this week. Minty fresh seals. Nice.
I have the black molding trim to install as well. It will replace the chrome strip that runs down the center of the side molding. The typically black body molding will be body color, as will the mirrors. As I mentioned before (I think I did), the c-pillar holes, trunk emblem holes, and fender antenna hole have all been welded closed and are now smoothed. Getting there slowly but surely. Pics will be posted when it's home and back together.
This is what the Sport's new color should look like..........
I welded up the holes on the trunk lid of my old Sport. I debated on doing the c-pillar emblem holes, but I did a few quick photoshops and decided I didn't like the look without them. might look better on green, but on the maroon it just wasn't right for me.
If I decide I need the c-pillar badges, I can always 3M tape them. Otherwise, I have a plan.
It appears that the modified trunk lid is going to happen.
This weekend....I'll have the tail lights restored. The trunk lid work is well under way, and coming along quite nicely so far. Can't wait for the finished product. Hopefully, late next week, maybe mid week, paint goes on, then the clear, then the buffing process. getting closer by the day.
A few pics.....

He's still doing the final stages of the trunk lid, then it should be time for primer/sealer, then paint.
What are you doing with the hood? Trunk looks cool?
Looks slick
All we're doing with the hood is painting it top and bottom.
Here's the hood.....I have three scoops for it, all being painted the same body color. I figured I may as well paint them all. I may wish to add carbon fiber to one, or not. But if I want to mess one up, I'll have two left to fall back on. Center of the hood is from a '72 Torino Sport.
(http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/DSCF7060.jpg) (http://s216.photobucket.com/user/Vinnietbird/media/DSCF7060.jpg.html)
I was told yesterday that the trunk lid is basically finished, and the Sport is just about ready for primer, then the good stuff happens after that. I'm ready to get her home, replace a few parts, install the new trim, replacement door, hood and trunk seals, and go drive it. It's been 5 weeks. Hopefully done in 2 weeks.
Nice.... bet you have ants in your pants lol
I'll bet you're right !!! I started getting itchy after a week without my Bird. Now, 5 weeks later, I think there's light at the end of the tunnel. It's taking a while, longer than expected, but, worth it. I can't complain. I'm trading my 5.8 I had stored for the Sport for all the work. He's done a ton of work.
Stock 5.8 ?
That's a screaming deal
Stock 5.8, and my ported GT40-P heads with Cobra roller rockers when I swap the heads.
Still a smoking deal
Oh, I agree. He's doing all the panels, bumper covers, door and trunk jambs, underside of the hood and trunk lid, and he is fabbing the spoiler on the trunk lid as well, plus, painting all three scoops for the hood (One to use, and two as extras. I have them, might as well paint them)., two gas lids, and an extra trunk lid, and to top it off, he welded the c-pillar holes, trunk emblem holes, and radio antenna hole. All gone. Smooth. I am keeping the engine bay black for now. Painting that would require way too much, but, I actually like the black. I may paint it later on down the road. We'll see what happens.
That's a ton of work and the one off spoiler is the icing on the cake
Well, it's almost the icing. The hood is what I'm rebuilding the whole car around. That will be the big focal point. Can't wait.
That spoiler looks pretty good Vinnie. Subtle touch. Jazzes up the severly dated look of the rears of these cars
It looks a lot better now than when those pics were taken. He's done a lot. He said he's finishing the prep on the jambs tomorrow, then it'll be ready to prime. He's also painting the other trunk lid and leaving it as Ford made it in case the spoiler version just doesn't work for me. I won't know til it's painted, at home, and re-assembled.
Looks good either way. When my car gets painted itll be one of the semi gloss black along with the center portion of the hood n stuffs. I think your car would look great with a semigloss undertoned colorbreak. Fantastic wor so far props to your body man Vinnie
Thanks a lot. As far as any stripes or semi gloss accents....can't do it. I'm going for a whole new look, and trying, although mildly, to bring the look up to a slightly more current feel. body colored mirrors and trim, black molding strip instead of red or chrome, and a darker color green than before to help tie in the amount of green there will be, and, let the natural lines of the car (with the big hood scoop and trunk spoiler as well) show off when the light hits it. NOW, that is all in my head, so hopefully my vision will reflect the finished product. I want the Sport to be able to sit next to 10 other Fox Birds and not look like any of the others, but not look over done or stupid. These cars can't handle the exterior mods that a Mustang can. A lot of things just don't "fit" visually. So I have to be careful with this. None of this car's re-re-build has been done without a lot of thinking, drawings (I do that), and re-thinking. I have a good friend here on the forum I run my ideas across for a second opinion because we think a lot alike on these matters. he always gives an honest answer, and so far, I think he has agreed with most all of my ideas, which tells me I may be right. LOL.
looking good
when and where did you get get your sig. i missed something. Wrong 347 thunder sorry.
Hey Vinnie, Whats the latest on the Sport? I for one am looking forward to seeing it..
Hmmmm....updates....well, it's looking like two more weeks. He has finished the trunk lid which took a while, and is finishing the door jambs. After that, primer, sealer, paint, clear, buff. I'll try to get a few pics Monday.
I too am excited. I miss the Sport. Once the Bird is back home, re-assembly, pinstripes, looooooooong slow cruise everywhere.
Coming together nicely. I do really like that green...is that "fathom green"?
Longer and longer I would be pulling hair out lol
so I should expect you here at the end of November?
of 2014? Possibly so.
Lol vinnie, that sounds more like my time frame. :-D
Hopefully I'll have the Sport back week after next. man, I feel shaky all over and break into sweats. Maybe I miss my car. I'll see if I can get some pics soon to post here.
The Sport should be home next Friday. I had to request the day off work so I can bring her home. With 12 hour shifts that week from Monday through Friday, and Thanksgiving the week after that, had to do it. Once the car is home, I'll swap the trunk hinge, install the trunk strut, rear light sequencer kit, Mach 1 chin spoiler and the rest of the interior panels. Doing the seals and 1/4 windows at the shop before it leaves, as well as the header panel and lights.
SWEEEET !!!!... Pics ASAP......
Been a while buddy. Can't wait to see the final results.
+1
I have a LOT of parts and zip lock bags full of fasteners ready to be re-installed. Now, fundage is needed for other things for the car.
By the way, I have parts for sale in the classifieds. Feel free to buy them. LOL.
When are you swapping the intake: before or after you get the car back from the body shop?
That hurts....really hurts a lot. LOL.
No more intake swaps. ready to get the Sport done and just enjoy it. I have a list of things to do, then done.....the short lis...
1.Install the Mach 1 chin spoiler
2. Install the replacement carpet after it gets a wicked cleaning
3.Install the new front struts and strut mounts
4. install the trunk strut
5.Sequential light kit
6. Install the replacement console
7. Tint the windows
8. Apply the thin little pin stripes
9. re-detail under the hood
10. install aluminum heads when the funds allow me to finish paying for them
11. install the Ford 65mm throttle body (selling the Professional products polished piece)
12. Fab the header panel to core support filler panel
13. polish the grilles for the scoop holes
14. Cruise all over town for 2 hours slowly, listen to tunes, and enjoy having the Sport back home.

3 scoops on the table there waiting for body color, along with another trunk lid, two gas lids, mirrors, and side trim pieces.
Good to see progress.
I've got a bit of stationary yard art to clean up, then hopefully after deer season and thanksgiving I can get my Birdy inside and finally make some solid progress.
When is the paint supposed to be shot Vinnie?
Paint starts Monday. The green goes over a black sealer, then followed by clear and a good wet sand and buffing.
The spoiler is a multi piece steel assembly welded to the trunk lid. I also will have the regular trunk lid to fall back to if I decide i don't want to use this one.
As I stated before, the antenna, c-pillar emblems, and trunk emblem holes have all been filled. The only body emblems will be the header panel Bird, and the Thunderbird script on the trunk lid. Since the side molding will be body color now instead of black, the chrome strip in it will now be black.
Nice! That's gonna pop like a jab from GSP. (shameless UFC plug there)
Looking good
Thanks. I just finished fabbing the bracket for the trunk strut from steel. Was going to use aluminum, but I really don't think it would be as sturdy after a lot of use. One step closer.
Here's another one......
(http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/553818_767015829981379_591654513_n.jpg) (http://s216.photobucket.com/user/Vinnietbird/media/553818_767015829981379_591654513_n.jpg.html)
I like how it flows with the contour lines that swoops up with the tail light ends. Low key, but not unnoticed. I dig it. Is it welded on, or fiberglass? I like what Clayton did with his also, but given the scarcity of those Camaros, that might hard(er) to accomplish..
I'd rather have something like this, rather than one on pedestals. Subtle, not rice-like, and flowing with the lines of the car.
All steel...welded together. I gave him an exploded view on paper of what I wanted. How the metal needed to be welded, and the whole design. He did it.
No more antenna.....I like it better this way......

Looking good
I love the truck lid for sure
I think you nailed it with the spoiler. With the body lines of these cars I have always felt " less is more" when it comes to spoilers. I plan to remove my antenna as well when I decide to paint my bird. Looking good .
Some jamb color goes on today along with some hood paint on the bottom and scoops, mirrors, trim, and gas lids. Pics as I get them.
It's coming along nicely. Just wondering but is the underhood area getting painted the same color as the jambs or is it staying black?
I just saw the underside of the hood in body color… Looks awesome… Vinnie will probably be posting the pics in a couple hrs
Under the hood, around the engine will be resprayed later. Right now, black. And to be honest, I have no problem with that. I'm going to do some under hood detailing later.
here are a couple before he cleared them. all jambs (trunk doors, inner fender edges) are all green. Tomorrow, the rest of the car will be green. WOO-HOO !!!......

I like the color Vinnie. did that hinge end up working out for you?
Its finally coming together huh Vinnie?...Looking good. I think the black trim in the molding is going to look nice!( By the way where did you find replacement trim?)
I'll find the Ebay link for you for that trim. Man, I am ready to get her home.
Send me your phone number on PM and I'll text you a pic. No, it's not on yet. Ran out of time, but, it's going on this weekend, and I fabbed a steel bracket that is on the hinge you sent me to attach the strut to.
I musta got a pic of the hood with the clear on it… ;)
You may have. I have it, but didn't post it yet.
slacker…..lol
I have to pace myself. If I go to fast, I could get a cramp.
Looking good !
I should have some pics later with a lot more color in them.
Scoops....

Awesomeness !!!! Looks good Vinnie..................are you going to be doing the assembly ?
Wow!!!!
Darn straight !!! Paint is one thing, but the bits and pieces....well....that's personal.
Looking good Vinnie. Looks like a very clean job. I like the booth as well, must be 3M dirt trap on the floor.
I don't know what kind of floor it is, but I do know that 1988 Thunderbird Sport sitting on that floor looks bad a$$. LOL.
is your bird on the front going to be black to match the black on the trim?
No, it stays chrome, as does the new emblem for the trunk lid. I did think about black, but just can't bring myself to do it.
come on….everybody's doin it….. lol
maybe try a 2nd set in black
THAT is a great reason not to. LOL. As far as the second set in black...I can try that. I will need to order another new script for the trunk, though, then paint it black, then see if it looks "right" or not.
I felt the same way. I liked doing some of the emblems in black, but it seemed wrong somehow to black out the 'birds.
Looking real nice, Vinny.
I gotta tell ya.....Jerry did my hood for me. If it weren't for the hood, I never would have done all of this work. it's the focal point. What the color, trunk, and everything else was based around. Thanks Jerry.
your welcome…Glad I can help you spend all that money.
I should probably share that link to all the hood building pics.
Add it in. Feel free. My thread is your thread. I don't mind sharing. LOL.
I'll be at the shop a little before 9 and start the re-assembly. Exterior parts first, then I'll get the rest done as it happens. All door seals, trunk seal and hood seal are first, header panel and lights, side moldings, then a break.
Looks great Vinnie. If you're unsure about the black accents, use plastidip. It goes on like paint and peels off like rubber
Thanks, but keeping the Bird in the header panel and the script on the trunk chrome. I still have to install the trunk strut, side molding strip (black instead of chrome), chin spoiler, and the interior. It'll get done.
A few from the shop. Still have a few things to do, and install the gas lid as well. Maybe later this weekend. We'll see. One step at a time.....

That hood is awesome!!!! Gona look sweet when you get the finishing touches on it..
Thanks a lot. Jerry gets the props for the hood.
Jerry, I will never forget the history of this project. LOL.
Sweetness
Backin' out and heading home........Holy that's a good looking Thunderbird. I think I'm in love....some more.....

my pleasure, and the longest 6 months of my life…lol
although the hood only took a few days to make
LOL. Funny old man story to tell one day while sitting on the rocker on the nursing home porch. LOL. "He little whipper snapper...did Grampa ever tell you the wild hood story......." LOL.
Lol
I only put the pics on FB…. the folder is public so everyone should be able to see it.

Looks good...you guys did a great job. Vinnie, don't scratch the paint swapping intakes next week...we know how you and that IMS-OCD are..(intake manifold swapping) LOL
The ONLY things planned under the hood any time soon (til I get the heads) are cleaning, and swapping struts. That's it.
I would put a minty Cobra upper on the car if I can find one. Then the GT-40 would be mounted to a board and used for making my intake plates.
Vinnie, your car turned out absolutely AWESOME!!!
I like it, looks good, the rear fin or spoiler, is right on!!!
I've got a Cobra intake. I'd trade it for a ported Explorer upper...
I have no explorer intakes. No big deal, My GT-40 is doing well.I'm applying my time to finishing the cs I have now, after the interior is together, the exterior stuff and trunk, then engine bay, subframe connectors, and go from there.
I also need to focus on finishing the resto on my tail lights. and getting the new sequential kit installed. A lot to do.
Due to the friggin' cold, I only managed to align the trunk lid and install the gas lid. Not much done, but, two steps closer than when I woke up this morning to being done. next project....trunk struts.
.
It's a little bit different....I'm good with that. The goal was to change up just about everything a little bit.
(http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/1005007_772043806145248_688244558_n.jpg) (http://s216.photobucket.com/user/Vinnietbird/media/1005007_772043806145248_688244558_n.jpg.html)
She's home!, Definably different than before.
What do you think Kitz? Honest opinion. Don't sugar coat it.
Need to see a few different pics of it.
I'm going out to work on the trunk struts and will see if I can grab a few more.
It's not easy owning the best looking '88 Thunderbird in existence, but, it's a burden I carry. LOL. LOL.
Lmao must be hard
Well, pics tomorrow at some point. I did manage to get a few things done today since we are having our Thanksgiving on Sunday....I got the trunk struts installed. Awesome. I also installed the replacement Mach 1 chin spoiler and the black strip in the side moldings (it replaced the chrome strip when the side moldings were black....now they are body color.). I still need to re-assemble the interior and trunk panels, sequential tail lights, replace the rear package shelf carpety stuff, and then we'll see what happens after that.
The struts took a while. I had thought one would hold the trunk up, but decided that two would be better, and keep everything balanced when the trunk was opening, and especially during closing, so that one side wouldn't want to flex more than the other. Worked great. There were many options of where to mount them, but I decided to mount them on the upper floor of the trunk just inboard of the shock towers. I fabricated the hinge mounts from steel, and will paint them and the trunk hinges later. That's small stuff.
Made a small amount of progress today. Door panels are back on, replacement package shelf installed, new driver side window motor, new door handles, and now I. currently working on the tail lights.
What can I say today.....Hmmmm......well, spent a long time here on our forum with some great help that walked me through my sequentials. Now I hope to apply that knowledge tomorrow. You guys know I hate electrical stuff.
I finished restoring my tail lights. They are taped up and the lenses and houses are being bonded. I also bought some chrome body wrap vinyl and used that to "chrome" the inside of the light reflectors on the tail light housings. That should brighten up the lights a wee bit. That silver paint or whatever Ford did was very dull and no reflective qualities at all. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have the tail lights all done, rear seat and rear interior panels in. For now, I'm resting. It's bloody late, and I just finished the lights.
Today's progress.....
-Installed the sequential light kit...awesome (I use the chrome vinyl on the inside of the housings, great stuff, and worth the time. Makes the lights really pop)
-installed the rest of the interior
-installed the trunk emblem
-pinstripes
-swapped the alternator
-removed all the sanding dust from inside the car (still need to vacuum)
-installed the trunk panels
-re-re-aligned the trunk lid
Now, I'm going to watch TV.
you got a lot done lol
Now I need to order a hidden antenna. Mine is gone, and I can't pick up any tunes. SO, 10 CD's in the changer in the trunk, 1 in the dash.
1 dang step at a time.
CRAAAAAP...............Well, accomplished a ton of work, and now what? the car won't hold a charge it seems. I haven't started the car for 9 days. It sat most all the time in the shop for three months. I checked the alternator, it was fine, checked my backup alternator on the shelf, it was good as well. Haven't checked the battery yet. I will as soon as I can. Next 4 days are work days, so, no time for anything.
I had to jump start the car today. Completely dead. Once it was jump started, it ran great down town and back home. I turned the key off, then started right back up....no issues. Let the car sit for 5 hours, dead. Hopefully the battery just isn't holding enough power. That would be great since it's under warranty. I turned the key, the electric fan came on as always, it tried to turn over then "click, click ,click, click....." with dim light in the car. We'll see what happens.
Just venting before bed. News as it happens.
Cables, cable ends?
Is there a place that can test the battery close to you?
I had this exact same problem with the Mounty back in the spring....turned out to be corroded cable ends and terminals. I couldn't see it, and it looked clean till I'd taken them off. I knew it had to be the cable ends when the tester indicated my alt was putting out nearly 14 volts. I ended up with a new battery and new cables, plus brass terminals. I put brass on everything that I own now. I'm sold. Stays clean, last longer than the lead POS's, and if you need to jump someone, the jumper cables don't chew them up nearly as bad as the lead cable ends.
I also replaced my starter cable. Was expensive, but I was motivated.
There's an Autozone about 6 blocks from me. I'm going to have them test it. I'm also going to check the terminal ends. I had the positive side disconnected when I swapped the alternator, and I noticed it looked pretty good. I'll double check everything as soon as I can. Working 12 hour shifts really slows me down. Other than the battery dying, the car looks great. Just can't drive it. LOL.
Avery, the guy who painted the Bird, stated that he had to jump start it a few times. Never had an issue with that until it went in for paint, and the car had sat for a month or so.
Test it, but sometimes you need to let one that has gone away sit on a trickle (1amp) charger for a day and they will recover.
I hope you are right, and probably are. No reason for this to happen, as the car has never sat that long before since I've had it.
Off to work my friends. Back at.....gulp....7:45 tonight. Man that sucks.
Vinnie, your car suffered the dreaded mysterious shop drain. It seems to happen a lot at the shop I was working at. I lost track as to how many times I had to trickle charge batteries. LOL. :-P
Yea sounds like a bad cable or weak battery should be a easy fix
I JUST got home from work. I pulled the battery and will drop it off tomorrow after work and see what happens. I'm pretty sure it's the battery. Since it's under warranty, let them deal with it.
need some pics of those trunk struts please.
PM sent.
This was taken before I cleaned the trunk and put it all back together. New trunk lid panel being fabbed and then I'll paint the bracket and hinges and it should look more factory.
(http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/988787_10202779717960464_1316448972_n.jpg) (http://s216.photobucket.com/user/Vinnietbird/media/988787_10202779717960464_1316448972_n.jpg.html)
Interesting, so that takes place of the truck bars going across truck area?
That is correct. The trunk bars are gone. Sped and never to be seen again.
Cool idea
Thanks. Had to do something.
What length struts are they?
the struts are 24 inches long.
Well, the Sport seems to be running fine now. I guess all the battery needed was a slow charge. It's nice to be back in it, and not using the Escape so much. The Bird is a lot more fun, and it was built to be a driver.
Polished intakes and dd don't mix but what else would u do with your spare time. Lol
The only polished stuff under my hood these days is the tank and throttle body of my intake (the rest is black wrinle powder coat), my throttle body spacer, and my Mass Air meter. I just removed the polished 3G the other day. Toning it down a bit.
I want to drive the car a lot, and be able to spray some cleaner on the engine and hose it off, yet having it look great, but look more "factory", even though it isn't.
That's why my valve covers are black now, the polished ones were killing me. Lol
I am planning on doing my current valve covers in black wrinkle finish, or, I have the old standby...Newly powder coated Cobra valve covers....real Cobra covers, not the finned aluminum. The black double walled steel variety.
Well, this update is a small one, but still an update......
I got the new transmission Saturday. Built for 400 ft lb torque and 400 horsepower. I felt pretty sure that it could handle the Sport just fine. I still have to grab a new clutch (funds are GONE). I also have new rear air shocks in route (Stang pieces....I'll use the ChuckW adapters for them), and new gas struts to replace the used and worn ones I used to mock up and install on my trunk lid. Now to get the trunk release and light for the trunk lid.
I'll try to get a couple of updated pics up asap as well.
It's supposed to be 60 degrees today, which, at this time of the year, is warm. I'm going to install the new shock mounts, although my new rear shocks aren't here yet. I've got to re-align the trunk lid, but the driver side hinge has a loose bolt due to stripped threads, and I can't mange to find affordable replacements yet. Once that part is found and received, I'll remove the original and replace it.
The new transmission is still taking up space in the garage (shop). Funds aren't allowing a new clutch yet. Hopefully by the end of the month I will have some funds to pay on the heads, and grab a clutch. This whole idea of mine about not using funds from my paycheck really complicates things at times, but, it's how I've done it since day one, so, I'll continue on this journey as i have.
Gotta sell some parts and get some fundage and get this big puzzle together.
60? that's toasty! it was 4 degrees here this morning!
Since I don't have my new shocks, I ran to Oreikkys and grabbed a hose kit for air shocks. I swapped all that out, and now I have to air them up. I'll get to that in a bit and test them out.
Yes, supposed to be 60 today. It's not there yet. High 40's right now I believe, and sunny. A little windy, but, I wasn't out for long. 30 minutes. So I didn't suffer much. LOL.
While there's a break in the rain, and the weather is up in the 50's, I'm going out to install the new shocks. Reporting in later...............
Rear shocks and ChuckW shock adapters are on. 2 new O2 sensors are on, full tank of gas. Dark outside, more later.
Tomorrow....wait, it's after midnight....so, later today, I'm going to get the fog lights on and the replacement trunk hinge, then I'll test the new trunk struts. I bought two 90# rated struts. I have a feeling they will be too stiff. If so, I'll order two more rated lower, then use these for something else. We'll see what happens.
Today's cs........
I cleaned the outside of the car. Didn't need much. I replaced the driver side trunk hinge, re-installed the trunk lid and got it repositioned. Installed the trunk light and trunk release. I installed the NEW trunk struts....No worky. Those new ones are way too strong. So, I'm going to shelve them for another project ....whatever that may be someday., and buy some that are a little more puny for the trunk. Probably two 40# struts. No big deal The ones from the boneyard will do fine til the new ones arrive.
After all of that, Gayle and I went for a little drive, and now it's couch time.
I think I'll go out and try to re-install my fog lights. I have the Hellas and their brackets boxed up and I can't find them, so, I bought some yellowish fog lights and painted up another set of brackets. I've been wanting to swap the Hellas anyway. We'll see how these do.
I hate misplacing parts lol
The new ones are on. They look great with the color of the car. Pics in a bit.
Nothing spectacular......just fog lights in the bumper......
(http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/1609885_10203077675169208_111834102_n.jpg) (http://s216.photobucket.com/user/Vinnietbird/media/1609885_10203077675169208_111834102_n.jpg.html)
Hood scoop looks real nice from this angle!
+1 On the hood scoop... I like the black belt trim also...Way cool.
Yea the black trim is nice I like the fogs also
That look SWEET Vinnie!!
Wow !!! Looks incredible Vinnie
Thanks guys. Almost every weekend of I'm getting at least one thing accomplished, even if it's a "small" something. One piece at a time.
Car is looking great, Vin.
Thanks Chuck. The shock mounts for the rear are perfect. The shorter Mustang air shocks actually work better than the Bird shocks with the Mustang springs. You did good on those.
Man, this old Sport has come a long way...Here we go.......

It really looks great Vinnie. Wow. The hood and the spoiler are like the icing on the cake.
That is one nice bird I love all the little touches
Any plans to tint the windows ?
Looks very nice, you did a fine job.
Lookin good Vinnie.
Yes, window tint is happening as soon as I can, but I have to finish paying for a couple of other parts first.
Thanks Kitz. I'm trying to keep it mildly subtle. No graphics, no extra emblems (I actually deleted the radio antenna and c-pillar emblems). As far as the exterior, it's done.Under the hood and interior.....still getting that all done slowly but surely.
Yea the car will look good with some tint
The wife says Why that color? Still resembles the little pinto!! You were trying to copy that weren't you?
I'm really liking that scoop!
LOL. Pinto. LOL. The last color was closer, but not copying. I like the green because it fits the car, and if I ever run across some Fox T-Bird/Cougar crowds, it won't just look like everybody else's.
Daminc did the hood for me. Flawless work top and bottom. It looks like Ford did it. I am going to have a special part number for it and an "engineered by" emblem.
Coming along nicely Vinnie! The more I see these cars with the side trim removed, the more I'm tempted to delete mine. Once they've been removed a few times its hard to get them to stay on. The chrome center molding is looking pretty horrid on mine as well.
Looks great :).
Needs some more wax ;).
Love how your ducktail turned out, cant wait to get mine in color. Thats a long way off. Keep up the work buddy it is for sure, one of a kind
Thanks a lot. The center trim, to me, makes it look like those old bumper cars with the black molding all around.
I appreciate you guys. Good family around here.
The Sport has come a LONG way with the help of the family here. Some of you ridiculing me til I submit (Not mentioning names.....KITZ), some with help over the phone to walk me through some kind of small trivial issue that was an ordeal to me. I appreciate all of you guys, and quite literally, I couldn't have built the car without you all, and the forum. Great place to be..
That hood is so spot on.
It's incredible how good that hood looks
The hood is my favorite part of the whole car (thanks Jerry !!!), and was what I built the car around this time (still building actually0.
I took the factory Ford 65mm Cobra throttle body I had sitting on the stereo on the work bench and started playing with it. I opened the intake side to 69.5mm and rolled the edges like a trumpet, then polished the inside. I opened the back to 68mm. Yes, the blade is still 65mm, but I was just seeing what I could do with it. I will install it on the Sport next Saturday and see if I like it. I have a Professional Products polished t-body on the car now.
(http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc205/Vinnietbird/14813_10203126988522011_2119582595_n.jpg) (http://s216.photobucket.com/user/Vinnietbird/media/14813_10203126988522011_2119582595_n.jpg.html)
Also, I ordered new trunk struts, two 24 inch struts rated at 40 pounds. I'll install those and the front struts and strut mounts next weekend as well. I also have been wanting satellite radio (SiriusXM) like Gayle's car has, but unsure how I wanted to go about it. I saw a Pioneer CD player (in dash) that is $120 shipped, and has Sirius capabilities, and can sync to my phone for hands free talking and also comes with a mic to place where you want it. The lighting for it can be red, green or blue. The green would be nice to match the clock. Not a big deal, but, it is on my mind. I'm going to look at some different stereos and see what direction to go.
That's about all there is going on this week with the Sport. It's a slow build, but, getting there a piece at a time.
O.K......I got the new trunk struts in today, the new stereo is in and waiting on rest of it to get here. I'm going to install the new Pioneer head unit, and the rest of it, then The Sport will have Sirius XM and hands free talking for the phone. The stereo will sync to the phone. Factory on my wife's cars, now it'll be on mine. It'll be nice to hear some real music and not the from the local radio stations. In our small town, choices are slim to none, and I get tired of CD's at times.
Saturday morning....Just got home from picking up some front strut boots. Now to have a little bit of warmer weather so I can get the struts on along with some other parts. Of course it was in the high 60's yesterday. But I was working, so no good for me. Off today, and cold with snow in the forecast. Maybe next week.
It's supposed to eb 66 degrees tomorrow. I'm hoping to have the new stereo in, the satellite tuner, trunk struts and if I'm lucky, front struts all done. I have high hopes and low expectations on getting it all finished in one day. I'll do my best.
New front struts are on as well as the mounts. Test drive tomorrow. Started the new stereo, having issues. Hopefully they will be cleared up tomorrow. I can't stand not having music.I am more than ready to get everything done on this car so I can sit back and just know that it's ready for anything. I am getting there slowly, but making progress.
O.K., by the end of this week, I should be running with satellite radio, new trunk struts installed, and then watching TV right after a wash and wax for the old Bird.
The Pioneer stereo would NOT link to Sirius, no matter what I tried. I made a call to Pioneer, and find out that my stereo has a recall. They sent me a label and I shipped it back to them on their dime. They will make it good, THEN, I shall have real music in the car.
I JUST ordered my new clutch so I can get the new Transmission in the car. I ordered a King Cobra clutch. I had one a few years ago and it was great. SO, here we go again. I figured with the new beefier trans and the new clutch, should be a fun ride again. The current clutch is a stock style replacement and sucks. I also need to have the flywheel resurfaced. That's not a big deal. I may just buy a new one so I won't have to wait once I pull it apart. Anyway, getting closer.
As I mentioned in another thread, the rear brakes are now completely rebuilt with new parts. Just need to bleed them tomorrow....and wait for a new wheel so I can get the old girl back on the road.
I ordered a new flywheel today. It'll be here Tuesday. At this point, I have everything I need to install the new 5 speed and clutch kit. The stereo should be back and installed ina couple of weeks. I totally rebuilt the rear brakes. All is new except the backing plates. Brakes are bled and I'll test them once the new wheel is on. Now, waiting for the sleet, snow, and thunder to go away, and next weekend to get here...or the weekend after that.
Picked up the new flywheel last night, and the clutch kit should be here today. Getting closer.
If everything works out, and the weather cooperates ....I have a friend coming over, and we're going to swap in the new 5 speed. I have the trans ready, fluid, new clutch, new flywheel, and the bolt and dowel kit should also be here by then as well. Then , a couple of hours and we should be good to go. Then the current trans, clutch, and flywheel will find a new home asap. Now, I wait to see what Mother Nature decides.
Update....Jangus is sending me two axles and a sway bar THANKS JANGUS !!! And thanks for following through with what you said you would do by shipping them. I ordered new bearings and seals for the axle swap through Ford racing. I hear a funny rotational sound since the wheel flew off. I think it's either the driver side axle, the bearing got damaged, or both. I'll know next weekend. Updates after that as well.
It's raining like crazy here now. When it quits, I'm going to go out to the garage and cut the aluminum plates to mount the new brackets for the the new gas struts for the trunk lid. I've been wanting to get them installed on the car, but no time, or I've been busy repairing the damage from the wheel incident.
The stereo should be back in a week and then I can install it and enjoy satellite radio. Finally, something better than the same three radio stations we have. I'm getting closer and closer to a point that I can relax. I also have to get the subframe connectors done. Sooooooo close.
Vinnie, after this winter, rain is better than snow. Good luck with the Bird!
Thanks a lot. It's still raining, so, no more progress today. Our yard is probably loving the water, though.
I did manage to adjust the clutch cable. LOL.
I'm ready to yank this transmission and install the new one, then I can send the current one to a new home.....somewhere. Hopefully tomorrow will allow a little work to be done. I would be happy with two hour.s of sun.
Should be able to swap a trans in 2h lol
Ca has had ok weather but its about to get very hot ...... That's when I stop working lol
I'm budgeting 4 hours for the transmission swap. I agree with two, but, I try to plan for the "whatever" that has effected us all. LOL.
Yea the what ever is right ... Always somthin
If tomorrow's weather holds out, I'm swapping the axles and sway bar (Thanks again Jangus). I also got the brand new IAC in the mail today as long as the new Ford racing bearings and seals for the axles. One piece at a time. Need a vacation. One week and I could make a lot happen. Off for three days, but the weather is supposed to go to tomorrow night....of course it is.
Ever notice the weather is always cold/precipitating every time one wants to/has free time to work on a car outside?
I've noticed it. LOL.
I JUST got finished swapping the bearings, seals and axles, as well as new fluid of course. No test drive yet. Still putting tols away and cleaning my space. I also just got my stereo from the Fed Ex guy, so, hopefully before tomorrow is over with, SiriusXM will finally be a reality. More news later after a test drive.
Going out to finish cleaning and install the new IAC.
Well, this week looks py as far as the weather report is showing. Friday is a high of 69 and partly cloudy. HOPEFULLY I can get the trans in on Friday. Getting closer by the week.
It hasn't been 60* here since November..... Good luck getting the trans in. Hopefully the weather holds for you.
More to do.....Kitz is sending me the heads for the car. AFR aluminum pieces. That can't hurt the Sport. A bit excited about that.
That's way cool
Today....... I installed the brand new gas struts for the trunk lid. Two 40# struts are perfect. Pope the switch, and the trunk lid slowly raises up. The wind doesn't blow it shut either.
I also finally got the new stereo installed and the Sirius XM satellite radio functional. Nice. Now, I have to spent a little time tomorrow figuring out how the whole stereo works. LOL.
I am HOPING the antenna for the satellite radio works well. I put it in the rear window, in opening of the third brake light that faces the glass. I figure after the windows are tinted, it'll never be seen. I can't have the antenna stuck to the body with a wire following it. Not cool. So far it seems to be fine. I'll know for sure tomorrow when I have time to take the Sport out.
Didn't get a lot done. Fabbed a new access panel for the fuel pump in the trunk, and looked at the new valve covers. I gotta do some serious thinking to decide if I'm actually going to use them. I bought them late at night, and wasn't thinking so clearly. I'll need a one inch plenum spacer to use them which isn't a big deal. And I do have the hood clearance. LOL. Thanks for that Jerry.
I fabbed the new access panel for the Sports fuel pump access in the trunk. The other panel was not how I wanted it, so, made the new one. I also installed the new gas struts for the trunk lid. No more torsion bars. The wind can't close the trunk, yet it's still very easy to close. I fabbed the floor mounts and the hinge brackets.

Looks good man
Thanks. Good AND functional.
Trunk lid with the struts turned out great Vinnie. Those torsion bars can be a %#@! to get back in place! Been there done that. LOL.
Mine can't go back in. I taped them together, cut them in half, pulled them out and tossed them in the trash. LOL.
Lol
Well, today I started getting the new valve covers ready to assemble. By that, I mean I had to drill a whole for the new billet breather, and then the new emblems will go on. I also have to install the 1 inch plenum spacer to allow these covers to fit under it, and under the throttle body linkage. Pics as soon as they are done. I have a lot of parts I've had for a long time waiting to go on the Sport. I'll get it all together eventually. Tomorrow morning, i'm going to try to have the front end aligned. That's a NEED, not a WANT.
One of a kind, Awesome looking ride! Hood scoop, spoiler and exhaust tips all look great! That color really pops in the sunlight! Very nice job.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate that. New Z-Spec 5 speed, aluminum heads, new cam, and a few more things coming soon as I can get some time.
Found out I have bad ball joints. I can replace them, but decided to let a shop do it. I think I'll go ahead and get new tires while I'm at it and call it a day. That will be my Friday morning.
O.K., new ball joints are in, alignment is done, new Nitto 555 tires will be here Monday, installed on Thursday on my day off. I think I need new u-joints as well. The local drive shaft shop is going to swap them for me while I wait. $40 in and out. Can't beat that. I just pull the drive shaft and take it to them.
Did you get the covers on yet? I actually had to use a one inch spacer AND a 3/8" spacer to get mine to fit while clearing the throttle like Kate on the throttle body. Talk about close to the hood! I had to adjust the metal elbow where the line from the breather goes in to the tb to get it to clear.
I haven't installed them yet. I may wait til I swap the heads and just do it all at once. I have an aluminum 3/8 or 1/2 spacer under there now. Dang, it took both? Holy . I'll know in a couple of weeks. As far as clearance, I have plenty. You saw my hood. LOL. I will post pics and details when I get it together.
Yeah, I needed both. Finding bolts for that was REEEAAL fun....
Dang. Allthread and fancy stainless cap nuts on top I guess.
Had the new Nitto 555 tires installed today. Man I like those way better than the Nexen 3000 tires. I kept the same sizes. 275 40 17 in the rear and 255 40 17 up front. Now to get the rest of the car done.
What valve covers are you guys running? The FRPP finned "COBRA" covers I have cleared the 1.6 roller rockers I'm running fine (no baffle mods or anything) and I just had to run a 1/2" spacer between the upper and lower GT40/Explorer upper for throttle cable clearance.
I'm running a tall style cover. Polished aluminum. They need polishing.....
What brand, just out of curiosity?
Also black crinkle finish=no polishing ftw!
mine are 4 inches tall. I installed a polished billet breather and some "Powered by Ford" emblems thata re , frm what I can tell, used overseas. I'll get a pic as soon as I can.
Today's progress....I dropped the fuel tank and replaced the fuel filler tube grommet and while I was dropping the tank, to reach the fuel lines on top to disconnect them, one of them snapped at the pump hanger. !!! o, went to Autozone, no connectors I needed, so, I got some EFI fuel line and made it work with double clamps on each end. No leaks no issues, but I am looking for the replacement lines in the classifieds below. Anyway, the old girl seems to be fine as she is right now. I keep looking forward to the big work head......... I am looking forward to being DONE with the big work ahead. LOL.
lol I just stumbled upon this in an old thread and had to put it up: :poke:
Car does look great Vin
Thanks a lot. Today....as in 30 minutes from now, I'm going out to swap the transmission. The new 5 speed is going in, the old one is coming out. One step closer. Window tint happens Monday morning at 8. Getting there.
Woooo! Getting closer to mine as well.
No trans swap today. It seems that I need a helper. Maybe my heart isn't in it today. Whatever the reason, no trans swap. After having the new T-5 sitting on the bench for 6 months, I guess another month or two won't hurt anything.
Well just think of it as safer with two people at least
I'm getting the windows tinted Monday at 8 a.m. I may start pulling it apart after that. I have until Next Sunday, so I don't have to be in a hurry.
I think tinted windows against your car color is gonna look sweet! I had mine done at a shop that I have used many times on other vehicles and when I picked it up the guy( young kid ) said they should have quoted me much higher due to the shape of the back glass.
I was told that as well at one shop, he quoted me $450 due to the shape of the rear window. This shop I'm going to tomorrow stated $120....I said good.I agree, I think the dark glass along with the black trim (which I just repainted around the windows) and green paint will look great. I'm having them tint the glass as dark as legally possible. That should be good enough. I'll post a few pics later this week. I'm waiting for my hood to come back from paint.......which is another story...........
I took the car and got the new Nittos installed and an alignment. I told them, "Do NOT latch the hood, just set it down"....With it having the center of the '72 Torino welded in, and all the fab work done, I didn't want a heavy handed person slamming it. Well, after I paid the shop and went home, I was busy in the garage, and the next day, I noticed a crack in the hood where they slammed it shut. I couldn't prove they did it, but thy were the last ones to touch the hood, SO, I have a friend here who painted my car, and he took the hood and is repainting it and repairing it for me. I have three scoops as well, one I had installed, and two extras. He painted them all. I have one at a hydrographics place getting a carbon fiber covering done to it, so, it'll have the green shining through the carbon fiber. If I like it, I can run it on the hood. If I don't, then I'll just keep using the scoop I have been using all along. I wanted options. Didn't want to mess up my scoop if it was the only one I had.
A few people said paint the scoop black, but I never liked that. To me it looks like somebody took scoops from a black car and installed them on a different colored car. No bueno. Anyway, my hood should be done Tuesday or Wednesday, and back on the Sport along with new hood hinges.
I'm going to start getting the black carpet cleaned (that'll be a giant all day job), and into the car as well. I'm trying to get the car done before summer (July 1st is my goal), then, drive and enjoy.
Window tint happens at 8 this morning,. One step closer to getting the Sport done. It's raining today, so that's all that will be happening. If tomorrow is dry, I'll get serious and start the transmission swap. It's not going to get done by itself......although I wish it would.
Well, windows are tinted. The car looks a bit different. I'll post pics when I can figure out how. We have a new computer and it's a bit different than the last one. No trans swap today...of course it's cool and raining, it's my friggin' vacation.
Sun came out (woo-hoo!!!). My hood came back from the repaint and looking awesome I must say. The scoop isn't done yet from being "dipped" in carbon fiber at the hydrographic place. It'll be carbon fiber over the green then clear coated. When I re-installed the hood, I also changed the hood hinges. Dear Lord, endless adjustment possibilities. Almost have the hood dialed in. The scoop I have had on the hood is on it now. I have three of them painted to match. One will have the carbon fiber, two will remian gree to match the car. Pics soon. I also moved the satellite radio antenna as well. I had it in the rear window, mounted in front of the third brake light. Apparently, after the tint was installed, reception sucked. SO, moved it to the front of the car centered on the forward part of the auto-dim light panel on top of the dash. I cut a tiny slot at the glass side edge of the little panel (my Sport doesn't have the auto-dim light option) so the wire wouldn't show. It's such a y little box I really pay it no mind. Very clean install if I say so myself....which I just said myself. LOL. That's the update for the day.
I'm confused, maybe. In addition to the welded in Torino center you are installing an additional hood scoop? Which would seem like messing with perfection, but then I haven't seen it. Or you have two hoods, one with the Torino center, and one with your original hood scoop?
No No Noooooo.....The hood has the Torino center scoop area from a 72 model grafted in. The actual scoop itself bolts in. The hood was slammed by a guy at the shop who did the alignment (I told him not to shut my hood), and he caused a small crack. It was off the car to be repaired, and now it's back. The scoop that bolts in, I have three of them. I want to be able to keep it all body color, and have an extra scoop as back up in body color, then the third scoop is for messing around with, experimenting. So, the carbon Fiber dipping process.
So I was confused. Knowing that the Torino center has a bolt in scoop makes all the difference. Looking forward to seeing the results.
It can get a little confusing. I gotta get my son to help my upload some pics. The Bird is looking really good. I gotta give Jerry (Daminc) the credit for everything. if it wasn't for the hood, I wouldn't have bothered with any of it. he did great work.
I have a friend coming over early Sunday morning for the trans swap. Wish the transmission fairy would just do the swap while I'm sleeping, but, I guess we'll do it and get it over with.
Vinnie, T5's have got to be one of the easiest trans to do. I gotta pull a tremec out of my pals Cobra and replace a shift fork. I can't stand tremec's with there integral bell housings. I love how you can install the clutch, bolt up the bell housing, then slip the input shaft up into the ctuch and four bolts the trans is bolted up. Slip in your shifter of choice along with the drive shaft and cross member and exhaust and voila your done. The tremec is a night mare, especially in the s197 stangs. Well good luck and be safe.
Yeah I know. I've swapped mine a couple of times, I just don't want to. LOL. I do like an extra set of hands just to make life a little easier on these jobs. I did the last one (the trans in there now) by myself. I will be safe. Jack stands and all will be used on a solid driveway.
I was going to pull the short section of my X-Pipe and the drive shaft this evening to get a small head start for the tranny swap tomorrow. I got carried away and in an hour I had everything out but the flywheel. Tomorrow morning.........Hello Z-Spec.
What are your plans for your old heads ? When you get the stuff done? I wish I seen the post for the 170's , I know someone for them.
What clutch you putting in?
What clutch you putting in?
Nice work Vinnie, when your having fun parts fly off.
The clutch is a King Cobra piece. Sorry for the delay in answering that Kitz. LOL. I still have to adjust the cable a bit more. I've put one mile on it since the trans swap yesterday....maybe more this coming weekend. Back to work and 12 1/2 hour shifts til Friday.
I still have to get the ehads and cam done. The cam hasn't arrived yet, and I ran out of money to get the remaining gaskets and lower intake ported. One step at a time. Still making payments on the heads, too.
The Ed Curtis cam got here yesterday while I was at work, and he is sending me 0.030 shims for the valve springs he said I will need. I haven't opened the box yet. But I will in a little bit.
Sweet
The Bird wouldn't start day before yesterday. Found out that the starter solenoid died. $20 and three minutes of labor, then all is good. I'm going to do a wee little clutch adjustment tomorrow, and rebuild the passenger window motor. I think the plastic gear lost some teeth. I have the kit here on my desk. After that, drive for a while.
Still waiting to get the heads and cam in. Funds are at zero right now, so, I'm $250 away from being able to do the swap. So close. At least I have the big parts already.
