Hell, even I never soak the clutches in modifier, that shiznit stinks too bad.  I soak in 75w140 synthetic and double up on modifier during fill; don't have problems.
Protip: install the friction modifier before filling the rear end with gear oil.

you don't need modifier if you run synthetic and no need to double up lol

I go safe because our 75w140 is cheap Proguard stuff from a barrel and I don't want my rear end to sound like a turkey call.

Not bashing brands here so don't take it that way. Have you always run the Lucas rear lube? You might try a simple rear lube change. I run the Mobil 1 with a bottle of friction modifier and have zero issues. The Bird has 4.10's with the F-150 "Z" spring and the Coupe has 3.73's with a the stock Mustang "Z" spring and the clutches were stacked and packed when the rear ends were built.

If the rear is POPPING on turns and it is built correctly remove the cover flush out the old oil and check the back lash properly and inspect the spider gears. Then install the cover with a gasket. Install 8 OUNCES of GM posi supplement then top off with 75-140 synthetic. This should solve you issue. If the final drive is making NOISE in a straight direction you have sereyous other issues.  Clutch posi units are known for POPPING ON TURNS. This is common and sometimes when packed to tight they do this. I no longer install clutch type POSI units if i can help it Thorsen or Cone types work much better. Just my $.02

Note years back when whale oil was part of POSI fluid additives this was not an issue. When they stopped hunting WHALES and eliminated their oils from posi fluid they needed a substitute for the oil to stop it from POPPING ON TURNS. Gm and ford use supplements that are free from WHALE OILS. Just for the record if anyone is interested in the history of POSI FLUIDS!!!

Just for S's and G's , go to a parking lot and run some tight circles one way then the other. You may fix it or finish it......what have you got to lose?

Actually when the posi units POPS they are built correctly. That is why they POP. If it did not pop the clutches are to LOOSE. A final drive that pops has very good clutches and is a strong POSI UNIT.  I am willing to bet 8OZ of GM posi fluid supplement will be all that is needed. Also check the clearance on the spider gears. They should move a bit when you touch them. Also check the in and out axle play. If the end play is to tight the clutches will have a hard time releasing on a TURN!!
