There is an intermittent, somewhat quiet, bzzzt....bzzt...bzzzzt....bzt...bzt... coming from all the speakers when playing the radio or a tape. It comes and goes during any length of a trip and doesn't seem to change characteristics with temperature. Has anyone else been down this diagnostic road?
This is happening in two out of three of the 87-88 cats.
(I searched for 'buzz' and 'buzzing' in the electrical and audio forums.)
try playing with the fade and balance. If that happends more while playing, take the connectors apart and clean them.
Did that. No change in symptom. I also turned the EQ off and it was still there. I guess I could change the radio out or the amp out but I was curious if anyone else has been here before.
Check your spark plugs wires.
Hey,
Have you changed the radio (put an aftermarket head unit in)? This sounds like an amplifier conflict. Premium sound has an amp unit. Installing another radio can cause this problem. Your description was my problem--Radio was fine with the engine off. I had to bypass the Ford factory Amp (it's either in the trunk or under the dash). I even tried a noise filter--nothing worked until I bypassed the Ford Amp. Problem solved.

Thanks for your replies. These sounds are in all three of my cats and the sound systems are all the stock premium sound with EQ.
I unintentionally found out my cell phone is causing these noises when I went to turn the volume down with my cell phone in my hand. The closer it got to the radio, the louder and more constant the buzz became.
