Does anybody know how much a stock hood on an "86" cougar weigh? Is it worth the money putting a fiberglass hood on a daily driver to shed some weight and are they sturdy enough? If I move my battery to the trunk and get a new hood would it make much difference? One more question, what is the difference in weight from stock E6 heads to a pair of aluminum heads? I'm thinking about putting my girl on a diet. Thanks!

I think that the aluminum heads are well worth it you are gonna drop 20-40 pounds. And plus e6 heads are garbage so you are gonna get way better flow.
So that's about 20-40 pounds for the heads less weight + more HP, another 20-30 pounds off the front for the hood and another 20 pounds for relocating the battery to the trunk. The battery will be over the rear axle for traction. So, how do the heavy duty fiberglass hoods hold up?
I've never had a fiberglass hood but I am going to be buying one. From what I've heard there aren't any problems with them at all
The U.S. Body hood on my car is heavier than the stock hood. I'm actually amazed at how light the stock hood is. YMMV

A good hood that's finished on both sides won't save you any weight. A flimsy pin-on unit may save some weight, but would be a pain for regularly use.
The cowl units are great if you desire the look or need clearance.
Moving the battery to the back will shift more than 20lbs, closer to 40.
I always figured that the reason people put a fiberglass hood on their car was to save weight. I will probably buy some new aluminum heads and put them on at the same time I put on my shorty headers. That will be worth some weight and H/P. Moving the battery to the trunk will probably happen before that. Thanks!
