Title: add supercharger ??
Post by: mpd86 on June 17, 2005, 10:59:15 PM
HI

What do you think about replacing a 3.8L CFI system with a supercharger ?  Any recommendations ?

Thanks.

Mark

So you can't just bolt the SC on and feed the fuel into it?? :hick:  :hick:

Maybe an old school type roots blower where the carbs sat on top.  It'd have to be one of the smaller units though.  Swap out the stock 3.8 CFI injectors for a set of 5.0 HO ones, an Adjustable fual pressure regulator, check valve for the MAP sensor so it doesn't read the boost and go all screwy......
Some custom fabrication would probably be in order for this kind of setup.  You could perhaps bolt the blower to your existing manifold with some type of carb adapter.
It would be quite a task to say the least between finding and fabricating parts and tuning it properly.

it wouldnt run worth a

have you ever looked down a CFI, it looks like two quarters on a shaft, its very anemic, it restricts a stock 3.8L, even the 5.0 CFI is a restriction, and then you want to add forced induction to it? youd probably get no real gains in power out of such a poorly flowing car

Like I said it'd be a big task to get it to run right ;)

It would be much easier to do a full carb swap and work from there instead.
