I have seen a few convertible owners that say they know what production sequence number their car is, like 45 of 89, 57 of 89 etc. How do I find out what number mine is? Mine has the carcraft info sticker on the door, if that helps.

The number 864054 in that photo indicates 1986. 4 is unknown at this time. 054 is the Car Craft production sequence.
I have also seen the last 4 numbers on a piece of tape attached to the back side of the rear seat.
As for production records, they are long gone, part of history.
But back in 1999 I was able to contact someone that worked at Car Craft and he got me the production total number of 89 vehicles converted in the 1986 model year. I did not get '85 production numbers but we know there were at least 16 made.
Also, we are finding out that not all cars converted in 1986 were actual 1986 models! I know of at least two '84s converted in 1986, with 1986 conversion numbers.
Well, that's easy enough, hehe. Mine reads 864008 - 11/85. So if you are keeping track, #8 is now accounted for ;)
Thanks for the info.
Hmmm maybe the single unknown # was the shop crew that did the conversion to the car.
My # 851014
or maybe the build version #
I wonder if all 86's are "4", or if there are other numbers too. I see your 85 is a "1".
I wonder because if Jerry's is 14 of 16, and mine is 8 of 89, there were only 9 cars made between ours. Whatever that 3rd digit, if it is sequential too, would have went from 1 to 4 in only 9 cars, yet stayed at 4 for the next 46 cars between mine and Eric's. Interesting... Unless it is just one of four production lines (like Jerry mentioned).
Were there different conversion packages, like glass back window vs vinyl curtain, or different colored tops? I wonder if that digit is an option code. Mine is just a black top with a vinyl window.
Any other convertible owners on the board? We should have a 'vert registry ;)
mine is also built a bit diff than the 86s I've seen. Do you have a solid sheet of metal behind your back seat?
my rear power windows and top switches, are spliced into the console wiring for the power front seats also
this is my cluster of spliced wires.

I understand that this thread is old, but just wanted to share the Car Craft production # of my Cougar. 864059. So I assume that this is #59 of 89.
