I have a 300.4 jl audio amp(75w rms x 4) that I am going to put in an 86 cougar. I am looking for a set of speakers that will take that amp and fit in the factory holes(I can do components if I have to). I am thinking I can run the 6.5's and 6x8's off the amp and the 3.5's off the head unit amp. Will that idea work well? I haven't found a whole lot of speakers that are able to handle that much power, so I may have overbought on the amp:punchballs: I just wanted it to match my 1000.1
I have a set of jbl 5x7/6x8's that are hardly used I might sell. If interested hit me up!

I actually ended up joining a car audio forum(carstereo.com) and alot of them REALLY liked boston accoustics. I ended up getting the Pro60 SE 6.5" components for the doors and rear deck. I also got the SE35 3.5" speakers for the dash.
I know its a day late and a dollar short but the Diamond Audio components are what I prefer to use. I have had Rockford Fosgate, JL, MB Quart, Pioneer (were in the car for a day), Polk Audio, and Alpine. The Diamond Audio's were after all of these and IMO were far better. I have not run the Boston's but have heard good things about them so hopefully they please your ears as that is all that matters. I always buy too much amp and just turn the gains down.

I don't know much about 6.5" speakers since my bird has 6" but anyways, I'd say good 3-way speakers in the back and 2-way up front. It's what I have and it sounds GREAT! If you are going that route, a good set of 6x8 3-ways I found were tough to come by when looking for good quality speakers. I got Kickers, and if they do have a 6.5" speaker then try to get it. I mounted 6x9 in the back because as I said, 6x8 are hard to find it seems. The speakers rested in the original spots perfectly, I just had to drill new holes but that was actually easy.
I already got the 6.5 Pro boston components and the 3.5" se35 speakers for the dash. I took the S35 3.5's that were in the dash and put them in my other tbird, and they more than drown out the 6.5 and 6x8 pioneers that are in there. I think with a full complement of boston speakers, it will sound awesome!
