Title: Loose Bolts
Post by: Weasle on November 24, 2011, 05:13:55 PM
Anyone with a after market turbo having problems keeping header and turbo bolts from backing out? Ive been losing bolts right and left. Any tips or secrets? Im getting tired of replacing copper gaskets...

meh, i can't find them.. but they come with little locking arms that slip onto the head of the bolt and held on by a snap ring.. the arm rests against the header tube (or as close as possible to it) to keep the bolt from backing out

SHADOW SPS makes them. But what do you mean by copper GASKETS????? Some turbos have no gaskets between the turbo and manifold. But if you do it must be a stainless embossed one. What engine do you have?? The 2.3 Ford does not use a gasket between the head and the manifold.

i don't think it was SPS, but i don't remember.. and he's running a boosted 5.0

aluminum heads? i STRONGLY advise you to stay away from the bolts that have a smaller bolt inside to spread and 'lock' the bolt in place, i forget what they're called.. but i've seen them split the head between the exhaust port and header bolt holes

Stage 8 is what I plan on using when I get headers.

Uggh, today i took the car for a spin...literlly... wanted to burn off the tires before i put new ones on this afternoon...lol While at a stop i noticed smoke coming out from under hood... Getting nervous i popped the hood and saw that every single valve cover bolt had backed ALL the way off. I was dumping oil all over my nice shiny headers and smoking it off. How in the world do you keep those bolts tightened on aluminum heads? Am i gonna have to carry a wrench with me everytime i drive the car lol
