The last Cougar I saw other than mine, was a 1994 model and it needed painted really badly. I saw a 1983 Heritage Thunderbird a month ago and the poor thing looked horrible. Like a zombie car. So sad.

Why is it that 90% of the Fox Birds and Cats I see on the road are in worse shape than ones I've seen in the Syard... *Sigh*

Saw a 1985 Thunderbird today parked a dentist office when I was driving through town. It was a glossy dark red and looked really nice.

It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling seeing it.

So I'm at the Ford dealer today to pick up something from parts dept. I had backed the XR-7 into a parking space right in front of the showroom windows. As I'm entering the service area to make my way to the parts window, a young fellow approaches me and calls out "Sir.." I assume this guy is a salesman (nametag) and (now noone here get offended) he looks to be about 25, pimples on his face, neck the size of a pencil and he's wearing a sweater...that buttons. "What year is that Cougar?" he asks. "1988" I tell him. " "1 9 8 8" he repeats slowly, and turns and walks away like I just handed him the ten commandments on granite or someting.
I complete my business and head back out to the car. The guy is standing there with a mechanic (sorry, technician) who is apparently out on a smoke break. "I've never even seen one of these" the kid says, "what's it got in it?" In my old-school defiance I say "302". The kid looks to the mechanic with a blank face, who tells the kid "5.0" So now I'm climbing in the car trying not to laugh out loud, but I'm shaking my head-no. Now mind you, the car looks like shiznit because the clear coat is burned off the hood and roof and the car needs to be painted. But the interior is nice and everything is there. Start it up, let the magnaflows rip and drive off. Was worth the trip.

Love the story. When this happens to me Im shocked every time. To me driving an 80s model car is normal. Its weird to think of my car as the Cougars or muscle cars of my dads day.

Then why do people buy new cars down there? Cars up here usually rust out before they mechanically fail....

because people are stupid and think a new car is a 'must have' when they pay their old car off.. they do it here, too.. they seem to think it's a 'status' thing, little do they know, they're getting buttstuffly raped everytime they get a new car, since we all know a new car is the worst investment you can make

New cars are worth it if you keep them 10-15 years.
Title: Show your fox bird or cougar sightings!!!
Post by: Shadow on December 10, 2011, 02:14:24 PM
not in my opinion.. you can buy a 2 year old, quality pre-owned car and save a ton of money, usually more than half what you'd pay for the car new

but this is also coming from a guy who won't own anything newer than 94 lol

Pull the stickers off and there is one a couple miles from me that would be identical... Clearcoat didn't seem to like the medium red metallic paint, was also peeling on the first '88 TC I bought back in '96...

A few streets over there is a white 5.0 LX with some mods, most I've talked to confuse it with mine...

SAD 84 TC.......  :-(  This car is local to me, and is rotting on the street in front of a Auto Shop in a industrial area....parts car at best its so rotted.  Interior is water damaged from a hole in the roof.  Front and rear bumper covers look ok, and it has side skirts that look ok.  One tailight intact. The rest is toast.  Breaks my heart.....

It might not really be as bad as it looks in these pictures, but the only real way to know for certain is a complete teardown, strip and assessment.  Virtually anything can be fixed, as long as their is a deep pocket, plenty of time and a strong unyielding spirit of determination.  I think I might offer the owner the opportunity to haul the thing off of their property and stop being an eyesore to their place of business. ;)

trust me, that car is a basket case.  The roof has a huge hole with a piece of plastic stuffed in it, and the entire area around the bottom of the rear windshield is like swiss cheese......water just goes right into the interior and trunk.

No matching that color in a wreck? I only say that because I have to repaint spots of my car yearly. Lol

Saw this one at work today.  He is actually selling this car in my area for what I believe is overpriced, but you be the judge.  I mentioned the forum to him, even though he is selling the car :p

Here is the carigslist post if anyone is interested..  http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/4444041977.html

I saw my 1st 85-86 foxbird here in Abilene tonight. It was to dark and they were hustling west on I-20 for a pic. It had a darker 2 tone paint job.

Just about lost it when I walked outta the mall and saw this. Beautiful, perfect undercarriage, cover over the driver's seat, headlights looked flawless. Had keyless, power antenna. XR7.
Seeing an 83-88 Fox Tcat for me here is maybe a once/year event. Had nothing I could leave a note with otherwise I would have.

There's a white '88 XR-7 about a mile from me in a driveway that hasn't moved in at least a couple of years now.  I always seem to forget it's there until I travel down that particular street.  I used to have to drive that way to high school (Yikes.....more than 20 years ago!) and they had the car back then.  It's starting to rot along the trunk and rocker panels.  I should really leave a note on the car or the front door of the house.  The interior seems to be good in it.

There is a blue 88 Thunderbird Sport near where I work. Mostly clean with a little rot along the door bottoms. I've left several notes on the car/house for the past few years. I've yet to get a reply.....
