I had [am having] a heck of a time learning to drive the manual trans, but it's very nice to have
1. A truck.
2. A vehicle with a (factory) warranty.
3. A puppiesanese truck that actually is manufactured by Damler-Chrysler and rolls off the Dodge assembly line, because its actually a rebadged Dakota.
4. What was the last thing? I can't remember.... OH YEAH! 3 black cars in the driveway!:cool:

I was very sad to send the bird to the yard but its a good yard and I know he will not crush it till its picked to the bones. Now I've got a truck to break in. This is the newest vehicle I've ever owned, and the first one I've ever financed in my name so it's kind of a big step for me. I'm pretty psyched about it:D

congrats on the truck. I know how happy you are, when I bought my 2010 Genesis a coupe months back, I've checked the oil once, and it still full and still golden, no leaks, no rattles, at 330hp after a simple tune. Mines my newest car I've ever had, it's nice.
Why didn't you part the cougar instead? Wasn't it in pretty nice shape?
Hey, that's cool! Although I do have to say WTF to the fact that it's a Mitsubishi. I've never seen one here. I don't suppose that 6-Speed is double overdrive, is it? I hope it treats you well!
It's actually a Dakota in drag.
Nice truck. My father bought an '05 Dakota new (4.7V8 4WD) and aside from a ball joint hasn't had any problems. I see a lot of them at the used car dealership I work at, and the only common problems I've seen in them there are oil pressure switches (the gauge will start dropping suddenly), crank sensors (the engine will first start stumbling, then it will stall and not restart until it cools down) and ignition coils & spark plugs (the 4.7 and 3.7 engines have a design that traps water in the plug holes and they corrode, causing a misfire and lighting up your check engine light). Nothing serious or expensive though, and they're generally a good truck. I've always liked the "Just Right" size of them...

Nice. What type of mileage are ya getting? It's nice not to have to fix little nagging problems with your DD every couple of days isn't it :).
If you still have to polish and wax it I've got a recommendation for you. Meguiars makes this new polish called the "Ultimate Polish". I gave it a try on the T-bird before I waxed it with Meguiars Gold Class wax (I usually polish with the #7 before I wax) and it looked awesome. So I tried the same stuff on my Focus and it looks frigging amazing in the sun. I can only imagine how good it would look on a black paint job.

I didn't part the cougar cause its still in the driveway. If you meant my tbird, the no, it was not in nice shape. A couple threads down from here on the u/r forum is the old thread for it. The las post I mentioned all the problems I was having with it.
This is by far the newest car I've ever had also.
It's geared realllllly low all the way through. I was expecting 6th to be real low rpm's but even at 60 I'm still at 2000 rpm...
Well to be honest a ball joint problem doesn't surprise me. That's a classic problem with Dakota's. At least now I know some of the other things to look out for ;)

I might give it a shot. I have some meguiars wax right now, it's not the same stuff though, I'll use it up first but I'll check that stuff out. Yeah I had to ditch the bird. It was either that or my fox. Had to keep the best one:D
So its now 3 30 in the morning and I think I'll finally go to bed. I've been working on the truck all night lol. I "detailed" (much rather just shined) all the exterior trim and bumpers, doorhandles, etc. and got everything back to black and shiny again:D Got all that done before dark. I lubricated all the door handles, latches, and hinges, and had to make a slight adjustment to one of the latches but that was easy. Now everything is so smooth and quiet. I love it! It's nice to just be able to "click" you doors/gate shut instead of having to slam like I'm so used to in everything I've ever driven on a regular basis. Now I spent the last hour and a half trying to get my tail lights and headlights out so that I can polish them tomorrow without getting all over the paint, and so I can put some nice bright backup bulbs in the tails. I'll get a couple pics of it tomorrow after it's all put back together.
I'm going to build me a cheapo temporary toolbox too tomorrow so that I can store all my tools in it and get them out from back behind the front seats lol. It'll just serve me on the cheap till I've got an extra 300 bucks to throw at a nice toolbox. I've got no room in the cab and so much stuff that some of it is just laying around in the bed. Waiting to get stolen. Yep I need a toolbox:giggle:
Beautiful truck! I almost bought one myself but everytime i looked at it it screamed and i quote "BEWARE I'M A DODGE" so i kinda passed on it but i have another in my sights and hopefully soon i can surprise you guys! and don't worry about your clutch at least you have some understanding of how it's suppose to work unlike my friend who i tried to teach in my ol' fox stang, the poor car didn't even make it a week after i tried to teach him and i had to put it out to the pasture.

I hear you on the Dodge thing. I actually went there trying to buy a Nissan but the truck I wanted was too old to get a loan on but this one was there for the right price and I couldn't pass it up. I have a warranty for a little while longer yet so we'll see. But otherwise it is still low mileage and dodge's are typically pretty good up until at least 150,000.

I've pretty much got the stick down now. It was just a matter of learning how to use the clutch properly by finding the slipping point. When I first started I didn't properly understand the difference between clutch pedal travel and actual clutch plate movement. I thought you were supposed to give it gas all the way from the floor and then when I got to the slipping point I typically would drop it of course stalling me out. I've got it down now. The thing I've noticed that I don't like the most about it though, is that there is a huge difference in ratio's between 1st and 2nd so theres a long wind down time between those two. 6th really isn't very low either. Its basically what 5th would normally be. They managed to throw and extra gear in there about 4th or something. I found the ratios for this trans online:

Well now I'm getting used to the manaul and I'm really starting to like it. I'm starting to regret not going through with my plan to put it in the Cougar. I might still do it lol.
I'm averaging 16 mpg but that's 90% city driving and I drive that thing like a hot rod so I'm not surprised.
I think I'm going to go take it up to the dealer though and have them look at the enging/trans. Its still under warranty and its making some sort of odd clicking/knocking type sound. Hard to describe it but it kinda sounds like the sound of injectors firing, only louder. Kinda like the noise Chevys make when you first start em up but then goes away. My problem is it doesn't go away. You almost can't hear it and you only hear it under load. It doesn't seem like a problem, it almost seems normal. I'm not used to standard trans and it kinda sounds like it may have something to do with that but I don't remember it doing that when I drove it off the lot so I think I'm gonna take it up to em soon.

Are you sure it isn't just pinging with cheap gas? If it was a four banger I would say hydraulic lash adjusters.
Check the exhaust manifold studs. They're probably broken at the back of each head - it's a common issue on 3.7's, 4.7's and Hemis. The resulting exhaust leak makes it tick. And it is a PITA to repair :hick:
you know that is actually very likely. I will definitely check that out. I shouldn't have to worry about it being a pain in the ass though, since hopefully the warrranty will cover it and it will be somebody elses problem;)
Oh I forgot to mention... I've been looking at the engine and things, ya know, cause that's just what people like us do...lol... and I realized that I have an -electronic throttle body-. There is no cable between the gas pedal and the TB. Just a sensor on the pedal and a motor on the TB. interesting. Also, I'm 95% sure the 2007 ECU is a speed density setup. I can't find a MAF sensor anywhere but I did find an IAT so that's intersting. I thought everything ran of MAF these days. huh.
