Well Guys, I finally decided it was time to stop playing around and waiting on hitting the lottery.... I recently bought a truck with my donor motor in. The 460 Ford I have origionally had a EFI 302 in it. It was blown of course but came with almost everything to rebuild it. In the midst of the 460 swap... I decided that the 302 was gonna stay in the bird for now.. Shes gonna be carbed with a decent low-rent RV style cam in it. I havent given up on her Its just been troublesome between college and a fulltime job/side jobs Well tax time is going to roll through soon and Im hopefully going to be amping up the suspention on the old girl. Tube k-member, coil overs, 5lug, FR manny steering rack blah blah.
Shes been fired up quite a few times over the past 3yrs but no real drive time on her.. shortly after the 5-spd 8.8 swap i some how spun a bearing...... 3500, 2nd gear smoke show......
Shes been neglected and im getting the ford itch sooo bad its time to start playing
Enjoy

Is that a roller motor? If so just stick a stock HO roller cam in it. It'll give ya plenty of grunt.
nope non roller estimated for idle-3500 which is basic operating range.. but used to pull a ton more weight. it should have no problem doing what i want it to do for now
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/Tcj429/motor.jpg)
Looks nice I like the valve covers. Is that for the Bird
yep just for a temporary tide me over til the 408 is done
Hey Clayton, have you seen the ones I've built since you have been away?
I want a 408...............................
lol. the bird has had many motor idears in the past 8 years ive had it. it went 306...347...331...351...393...408...427...460........408. lol ive finally settled on a 408 just because of cost for one for 2 it has the capabilities of all that i want it to do without having to have a dart or merlin block. Ill be excited when i get the bottom end done so i can start focusing on H/C/I and possible power adders.....blower maybe? if I hit the lottery or marry a rich car loving woman... lol.
and Graham yeah ive peeked at em but i havent been on here other than to give some updates here and there to make sure yall know im still alive and kickin
Hey ya'll Im still alive and finally putting my rear in gear to start getting some major work done to the ol' bird I picked up a edelbrock performer 289 intake and a procomp hei style distributor for the 302 yesterday for $130 new in box. I ordered the granatelli tubular k-member tubular a-arms, and coil over conversion kit today, going to order the manual rack as soon as humanly possible.
getting my plan of action together..Ive got to do a ton of work to the nose of the bird before I even get close to putting things back together when I tear it apart. I noticed somthing I didnt pay attention to the last time I had the 5.0 out... The previous owner took on a telephone pole when the car was new and it boogered up subframes.... theyre kinked in a touch, so ive got to straighten them out weld up all the swiss cheese mess under the hood and move the battery to the trunk.
picture time.

Like a kid on Christmas, its gonna look real nice under the nose of the bird.
Sweeeeeet !!!! I like that a lot. I'd love to have one. maybe one day. I'd just have to wait til I break something on the front. Everything is less than a year old right now. Man, I like that a lot.
Where in the world did you get that beautiful kmemeber from if i might ask?
Summit sells it as a kit. Coil over kit, LCA's, K-member all for 620 shipped to your door.
is it one for a fox stang?
yup. looks to be a real nice quality peice
Todays progress, I got the shop somewhat clean enough to get the bird in and I just went to town. got the doghouse all off and started taking dumb stuff loose
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/Tcj429/tbird8.jpg)
Can you use all factory suspension parts with that thing?
spindles and such. yes. the coilovers just slip over the strut on the front. the tube LCA's have the mounts for the sway bar. the kit looks awesome and it only weighs about 85 lbs...
Got the k-member out and got the rest of the junk out from under the nose of the old girl. started cutting the rust and rot out from under the old girl. Time to get to fabbbbbbin.

Hey, I'd have to use Stang mounts with one of those. NO WAY !!! It took me FOREVER to get a new set of ChuckW Thunderbird mounts, and I'm using them no matter what. Giant K memeber.....it stays under the Sport.LOL.
Hey Vinnie...order your tube K...I'll buy your Chuck's mounts..:D
Seems as if I have a need for a second set lol
No way. I have wanted these forever, and they are staying. Going on this week when my new headers get here.
small but important update. I bought the materials I needed for the front subframe and subframe connectors. a total of 24 dollars. awesome.
I got the front rails refabbed. Now all I have to do tomorow is go to Henry Steel and get some sheetmetal and refab the strut towers and clean the holes up in the engine bay, but other than test fitting the K-member today, I feel like I got a great deal accomplished.
Heres the progress pics... Enjoy!

Thats where I left off today. got the rails and all my welds cleaned up seam sealed DTM primered, sealed and started smoothing things out.
Clayton
looks good
Thanks. It was no where near as bad as your cougar but I spent alot of time in your thread around the strut tower rebuild of yours. You helped me alot and didnt even have to weld anything... on my car that is.

On vacation now... Now I can get some REAL work done. I got all the rinky stuff done, cleaned all my front end parts, painted my chassis parts, calpiers got a good coat too. I cleaned up my 11" spindles also. Hopefully this week I can get alot more done.. I hope to have the nose 3/4 the way back together, atleast have the k-member back under it.
Glad to see some of us are actually getting something done. I have tomorrow off and plan on doing.....well....anything.LOL.
Keep posting the pics of the car coming together.. I get inspired at everyone else's progress. I'm trying to keep up.
Lookin' good! Keep at it, I'm slowly working on getting mine back in a mobile condition as well.
Its all a slow drawn out artfull process... I started assembly today. I got the kmember in and squared. Lower control arms, spindles, coilovers (not in fully waiting on C/C plates, Booster and mastercylinder, shes my wonderful PITA but I love her.
Kickin some tail and flappin some wings.
I ordered my caster camber plates today. All I have left is a few expensive rinky things then the front suspention is done. Prop. valve, rotors, pads and then its time to focus on the rear. going to start off by ordering my CHE control arms, then fix up my battle boxes undercoat the tar out of it when the subframe connectors are welded in all nice. Then all I really have to address is my leaky pinion seal and get my new diff cover installed, shoot it all black and run with it. New brake lines, new fuel lines. You know the list.
-Clayton
Looks really nice and shiny...what brakes are you gonna run up front?
Ive got a 11" GT spindles and MarkVII calipers
Got 'em
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/Tcj429/0715111236.jpg)

She's not too bad from the front of the rocker back, just a little scabby. My next no-dough mods are to use what materials I have and make my own battle box reinforcements, and subframe connectors. Gonna clean it up real nice and go from there I suppose. Everything came out real easy aside from the lower control arms.... The bolts through the torque boxes were rusted solid in the bushing... A little...err ALOTTA heat and and an impact and they came out after about 10 minutes of fighting with them... Can't wait to toss in some CHE uppers and lowers.
...... I kid around with my brothers, they think I'm making real good progress, and I am.... But I always give 'em a hard time saying things like I cant wait til I'm b*tchin' because the timing is off.. or I ran out of wax...
Thanks for checkin' in on me
Clayton
Hey Awesome job! That is going to be sweet when it is done! I had been thinking about doing this to my cougar sometime. I have a lot of things I "want" to do lol.
Thanks man. It just takes a lotta-bit of time, a small fortune, and more patience than Ill ever have.. Ordered my wilwood prop valve, torque box reinforcements and a trickflow diff girdle should be here today, and the girdle tomorow...cause fedex sucks.
And to add a side note... I really need to stay off of CHE's site... I see alllllll sorts of pretty parts that I cant order.....yet. After I get the torque boxes all built up and subframe connectors welded in and all seam sealed and all that good stuff Im going to sell my kidneys and possibly an arm or leg and buy the adjustable lowers and fixed uppers the axel brace CHE has... I want one after the rear is in the car of course. Ive got a boatload of little things Im gonna buy inbetween then and now. Alan gave me a couple great ideas to stiffen the rear up and be able to run 325/50/15's out back homina homina
but wheels and tires are the very least of my worries at this perticular moment those will roll on in around tax time.
Today I tore apart the interior. All thats left is the dash and column. I intended to just pull the back seat for my installation of the torquebox reinforcements... that led to taking the front seats out... which led to taking the console out.. which led to pulling the ratty carpet out... that led to pulling the sail panels out... that led to pulling the ratty head liner out... I ended up peeling all the sound deadener out while I was in there... now im really ready for those torque box peices... and to my utter surprize... my floors are SOLID. Yeah they have a couple scabby areas but nothing some time and some etch primer cant fix.. its all going to be undercoated anyway. Im excited.
And I retract my previous statement about Fedex sucking... UPS was sopposed to have my other box of parts here yesterday........ Well they wont be here until monday now. so fedex FTW atleast they were on time with theyre schedule
My interior looked like that a few months ago. Makes me cringe. I was really glad to have it back together. Keep up the good work, and keep us posted on everything. I like the diff. cover. I have a new 8.8 girdle on my tool box I want to install eventually. Gotta get a passenger side axle first. I wish I had the funds to do the K-frame swap. That would be awesome. In the end, will your car be primarily a street car? Are you keeping the "creature comforts" when you're done?
In the long run, I want to build an all purpose car. Somthing I can get in and drive one day. Somthing that can corner, eat up the strip and be fairly tame on the streets. Somthing all in all strong and powerful enough to put a smile on my face and have no fear of breaking under hard launches.
I had the goal of making her a prosteet car. powerful to lift the wheels off the ground and show these kids of my generation what a real car is.
The k-frame and coil over swap was a milestone yes. but the first time I set this self proclaimed beast back on the ground Im going to probably stay in the garage for a week just staring at it
small update. I got the staging lock and my prop. valve installed.
It's looking good.
It's suprisingly intact (rust wise) for a Midwest car.
Thanks man! The strut towers were chewed all to hell though. Got em all fixed up now and debating on ordering my che control arms next week
I've seen worse strut towers at the yards. Half way gone strut towers. Real nasty stuff. Yours looked pretty fixable. I'm glad you saved it.
What color are you going with for the body? I'm guessing the tue-tone thing is going away.
I think I'm gonna paint it black and hit it with a nice dark red pearl. Depending on all the little body mods I do, I might do some satin black accenting
It's comming along nicely! I wish I could do all my own work but I can't. I can do some stuff but not the major stuff. Of course if I keep stripping cars I might get better at it. I have a tubular k-member for mine hanging in my garage for mine eventually. You might remember it, I bought it and alot of other parts from Brooks, 1nasty86tbird, I think that's what he went by.
The work is easy if you have a car that hasnt been sitting in the elements for 20+ years.. this car has sat about 15 of its 23 years. But... being that it is 20+ years old you get into well, while its out I can fix this...and this....and this... OH and this and this kind of moments everything under this car is going to be brand new or re-conditioned. Not gonna lie, I started stripping it to do all this work to it and got highly overwhelmed, but I pressed on through it and now I sit back and kinda laugh at the fact Im alot further than I thought. The only thing that is holding me back from working on it right now is the lack of fundage and the heat. I have alot of welding to do under her and its to bloody hot to be welding upside down without a welding jacket on for me right now. Im stockpiling parts right now anyway. Hoping that when fall comes or it starts cooling down alot more I can have a bunch of new parts to throw at her and be able to have it sitting on the ground before winter hits all undercoated, CHE arms in and start running brake lines and such. Possibly even have the new motor in for test fits and building the new tranny xmember to clear my exhaust. I probably wont touch it at all this winter just order parts all winter so when the weather breaks I can just have a major parts party and hopefully have the old girl back out of the garage under her own power.
Hopefully when all is said and done, she will be able to be driven anywhere (if weather permits) stop, steer, and genuinely out perform some of its counterparts on the street.

Big but small update I got the subframe connectors welded in and the torque box reinforcements installed. I also got the underside all cleaned up and undercoated. I cut the underside tank mounts out cause they were all rustified... and Im running a cell anyway I think shes looking real good. All Im waiting on now is the cash to buy my CHE parts to have the rear end back in under her. After the rear is back under her and all situated Im going to focus on the brakes and shocks. Hopefully before winter I can have the car on the ground and HOPEFULLY have the 302/t5 in it for trial fits and get all my fitment issues with the exhaust figured out.
Thanks for checking in!
Clayton
Progress update: I finally got ahold of a GT front swaybar got it all cleaned up painted and installed with poly bushings. The front is almost done now aside from finishing the brakes and getting the steering rack installed (waiting on bushings). I ordered my CHE uppers and lowers on the 30th.... Im still waiting on them... But it gives me the chance to get the spings painted up and ready to go in. Yesterday I ordered the drag bags for it hopefully they'll help the old girl hook up like I want. FWIW by the time the first flake falls she should be sitting on all 4's and have the brakes all plumbed. Its all comming together really nicely.
Keep after it. I know how large an undertaking you've got underway! Any progress is good progress.
Great update, it sounds like you're moving right along.
Now to play the waiting game... I ordered my CHE arms on the 30th of last month and still dont have them. I called the guys and asked em what was up 2 weeks ago... they said they would be shipped somtime that week.. Still no dice. I havent been able to get ahold of them since. I duno about you guys but $375 worth of parts sitting somewhere other than in my garage has me a little preterbed especially when its been 4 weeks since I placed the order.
Just fuming. other than that I got my drag bags in, and I got the steering rack mocked up now so e should be ready to roll soon as the shipment from CHE comes in.
I've heard that CHE often takes quite some time to ship. I was lucky and got my brand new CHE's on Ebay for super wicked cheap.
just wanted to give you all an update. The car hasnt been touched since I undercoated it due to lack of fundage. Also... CHE still hasnt shipped my parts, they wont answer their phones nothing. its really irkin' me you'd think a company with that good of a reputatiton would atleast let you have some light on the subject. I ordered the parts August 30th..
Anywho take it easy all
I can't blame you for being upset. I know I would be. That's a long time to wait on parts and to not be able to get a hold of them makes it even worse. Good luck man, I hope they get thier act together and get them to you soon.
Got ahold of CHE today Chuck appolozised for the long wait and said he would have the parts shipped tomorow.
SAHWEET!
I am in total awh over what U have done. It is truly amazing work.
They should give you a nice discount for waiting so long.
He offered me 1/2 off of an axel brace when i want one
At least that's something.
Oh ya I aint complaining one bit. I just wanted to know whats up with my previous order more than anything
As of right now I have a fex ex tracking number that estimates a delivery date of 11/9 by the end of the day so Im stoked.
Now its on to pricing shocks and struts
Well, I got busy...

Shes on the ground now.
Next project is to finish up the brakes, run lines, get the steering shiznit situated get shocks under her, and toss the 302 in it.
Great. More accomplishments today on the forum !!! Let's have an internet cookout !!! Congrats on the Bird sitting on the ground again. All down hill from here.
The rear looks like it's up in the air a bit.
Congrats on getting it back on all 4 wheels :).
I'd like to know what springs you've got on there, and where you got them. It will settle down some after driving. All that work and your keeping the stock drums?
Thanks all, I felt real good when I sat her down yesterday
Im running factory 5.0 LX rear springs. The coilovers are Granatelli ones.
Im searching for a set of tc or 4banger stang springs
Got 99% of the front brakes done. Have to get new fittings for the braided stainless lines because they went to bigger fittings... Oh welllll.
Mocked the headers on the motor while it was on the stand to tweak the header on the driver side over more to the passenger side because as it was it was headin straight for the bolt in the crossmember mount. Well hopefully everything goes in peachy keen.

Engine needs more Ford Blue paint ;) j/k.
Looking good. You're getting close to driving it :).
Waiting on rear flex line, then I can run the rest of my brake lines for the back half. The rear brakes are done aside from the lines. After Ive bled the brakes its time to get a new pilot bearing mount up the flywheel/clutch and bellhousing and drop the motor down in the old girl. I have to clean up the tranny and shoot it then eveything will be done engine and tranny wise aside from getting the front acc'y stuff all put on and wired up but thats all easy enough to do.
Im hunting for a good double hump tranny xmember and a nice set of TC or 4 banger rear coil springs. The factory LX rear coils make this thing look like its about to go baja racing.
I cant wait to drop the motor in and call it good. Then.... I get to do all the fun stuff I like doing the most.... wiring.... yay..... Gotta save up for a battery relocation kit too.
No more big empty space

mmmmmmmmm.. finned valve covers.. looks great!
Thanks y'all I got my rubber brake line in yesterday so I can finish up the rear brakes now. Got the tranny all cleaned up primered and painted yesterday along with drilling and re-tapping my shifter mount bolt holes... nothing is worse than a sloppy shifter not its tight as can be. I love the steeda tri-ax lol.
Time to get crackin'
Probably no more work to the bird until tax time. Tax time rolls around Im going to order the weld's and rubber, my new clutch cable, fuel cell, battery relocation kit, radiator, and some other misc parts.
Now on to play the tax time waiting game WHOOOO
You have been waiting to do this for a very long time. I am glad to be seeing progress. There is a bird at the junkyard here with the same two tone brown fender as your car. Forgot what you wanted to do bodywork wise. Give us all a final list of mods and things, and check them off as you go.
body wise it changes as the car progresses, but I have decided on the color for sure. Im going to lay down black basecoat with a red pear midcoat and a ton of clear to give it that deep dark red color. Turbo coupe hood, somtime in the future when my other project is buttoned up is going to get cut up and cowled maybe 2-2.5". black out the windows, satin trim, satin bird emblems on draglites with turbocoupe bumper and LX header. Going to tint one of the pairs of taillights I have for it so they look blacked out, doing the outer and inner marker lights the same way. Im going to adjust the suspention so it has a slight rake with the slicks and skinnies. Oh and I have an aftermarket spoiler laying around here that came off a SRT-10 ram and it sort of resembles a fatter, lower version of the mach1 spoiler.
I think its going to be one sick looking creation by the time Im done playing with it. I hope it turns out half as cool as I am imagining it in my head. Its going to have a few touches of chrome here and there but thats about it
Gotta love the no-buck mods

My buddie's brother loaned me his draglites for the winter so I can get a rough idea of what its gonna look like. His pooooor mustang is playing daily driver duty this winter.
But I got a wild hair today and cut up my junk TC hood and Im starting to make a cowl hood out of it
can't wait to see the outcome of your hood.. i thought about doing it the opposite way, so that the scoops draw air OUT of the engine compartment
oh, and.. she looks shagxxxxy with welds ;)
Welp, I got a little fabbin done. nothing to brag about. but its somthing.
Sweet, you just waiiting for taxes now?
Yep. and when they come in Im going to feel like being a monkey throwin some barrels down some ramps
nice donkey kong refference.. lol can't wait to see the hood finished
What Im going to do after I get the cowl part welded together is cut the hole in the under side of the hood for the scoops and cut another big fkin hole for the air cleaner to nuzzle into.. With the 302 a performer 289 intake 1" spacer and the holley carb she sits just high enough to hit the hood so im hoping I can get away with running a tad taller air cleaner and have a fully functional cowl/ ram air setup.
Its gonna look wild and the fact it looks somewhat "factory" makes it that much cooler.
it would be sweet if you could get the hole for the breather just big enough to fit around the filter, so the scoops feed it nothing but cool, fresh air.. then 90% of your under-hood heat would be kept away from the filter and you'd have a happier motor lol
thats what I was thinkin. I was also thinkin of ditchin the base plate for a box.. to seal it up quite a bit better then it would be cold air only. but thats in the air. Maybe when the next motor is done I might think about that but style and functionality are key. I dont want somthing on this car that wont be used. Its a street/strip destined car 2 main points on some of my reasonings Keep it cool, eek every bit of performance out of this puppy.
I want to have a full interiored car with all the creature comforts with a semi-stock appearence. Save weight where I can. The only things that Im really hunting for for it are a manual drivers seat track and a way to have the lightest full audio system I can have. subs in the trunk are going to be a task seeing how its gonna have a battery and a cell back there.. oh well better weight distribution anyway. lol.
sounds like your plans are similar to my blue TC.. only non-stock appearing things are the hood and wheels.. and the sonic blue paint, of course
yep. Ive had the car almost 10 years, My ideas have changed so many times since I got it. but I grew up with this car. I was 12 when I got it. It has went from this insane 347 fuelie motor with a s-trim and a 150 shot, to a boosted 331, to a kenne bell 351 to a 302 with some bolt ons to my final idea of a 408 or 427 roller (depending on cash) with a s-trim on it or some sort of roots style blower.
It was origionally going to be the sandalwood color and black, then orange, then pitch black, sonic blue, and I finally settled on black cherry.
it went from 17" torque thrusts, to weld pro stars, FR500's, Cobra R's, waffle stars, to finally draglites
Ive got a history with this car. It is my first driveable car and it will never go away. it takes roost over the restoration of my 70 bel-air hands down just cause I want to drive it without it upsetting me. I have the mile marker car. I started with a bone stock car aside from the t5 and 8.8. BUT everything under the car has been altered and modified. I cant wait to brag about the difference all the hard work has made.
well i hope your hard work and long-term dedication pays off in the end! a 408 would be my choice, but i'm biased, as i own 2 and a 413.. lol

Got some more tedious work done. Got everything to line up got it all tacked in place and got some actual welds done. Im gonna end up making it solid enough to withstand the elements then Im mostlikely going to glass over it and smooth it out real nice But Im thinkin' its lookin' purrrty dern goood.
Very nice !!! Come do that to my hood.
Actually. If I get this one done the way I want it and actually like it alot when its all said and done I might end up making a couple more. all depending. the coolest part about this is it will be fully functional ram air. Im thinking of ways to build a aircleaner pan that, with the use of some cushion, will seal up to the underside of the hood. Kind of like the old 440-6packs I love that styling. looks clean and functional.
I do have another TC hood and another stock flat one... It may be a possibility.
I use spray filler for stuff like that.... and leveling.. would save you a ton of work in the long run
Thanks for the tip Jerry
something like slicksand or the likes. pre form it with bondo (and rough shape it), and layer the spray polyester where you need it.. I used an entire gallon on my car to flatten everything... probably sanded 2/3 of it off by the time I was done. but boy is it nice
I used a home depot gun with a 1.7 tip for it.... if you don't clean the gun thoroughly though, it will never cone off after it cures.
That hood is looking great!!

Got antsy and decided to set the old girl completely down and hand a fender on it just for looks.
Got the TC coils in, didnt notice much of a difference in height. these CHE adjustable arms are for the birds.
That thing has a mean stance!
Maybe the non adjustable arms would work better with the TC coils? Perhaps since you already have the adjustable arms you could run some SN-95 rear springs?
Maybe. but I have to remember that there is NO weight in this car. no interior nothing in the trunk. So maybe when it gets more things thrown at it it might sink the tail down a bit.
It looks a lot better now that it has settled for a few days
It should sink a bit lower with some weight inside.

Had to push the old girl out the door for a bit to sweep under her today. first time shes seen daylight since last feb. looks quite a bit different.
Also, I sold my 81 kaw 440 chopper today so that funds more bird goodies as in tailpipes, lers and some other stuff too.
holy monster truck, batman.. she's sitting a lot higher than she looked with the welds
I was thinking the exact same thing!
Yeah it doesnt help that the insta-spares are smaller so it has even more of a rake to it. Its going to get dropped wethere I buy springs or cut the LX ones. it sits too hella high. but it will sit like I want no matter what. The glory and only effing glory of these CHE adjustable arms I waited 4 months for.
But I did get my taxes back and ordered a SHLOAD of parts. so its on like donkey kong. and time to start saving for my own welds.

Got my radiator, fan and shroud, alt bracket, crossmember bushings, fuel cell, battery relocation kit and a bunch of other stuff. I love tax time
i love the cleanliness! i wish under the hood of every fox bird was this perdy
Waiting on mo parts! I did however get my firewall adjuster today.. stoked about that one. and my tailpipes are said to be here somtime today too. Now Im waiting on springs, mooflers, and the fuel cell mounting brackets... once that all shows up im gonna go pick up a 10' stick of 2.5 pipe, a spool of hard fuel line, a couple feet of rubber line, radiator hoses, a serp belt, and some other odds n ends.
I love tax time.
Looking good man. The elec fan setup really cleans up the engine bay.
Well for a while Ive wanted new gauges for the old girl.. I really wanted to go allll autometer cobalts.. well 800 bux for gauges isnt really my cup of tea. so i cheaped out and bought one of those trio gauges from advance.. I had about 3 gauge clusters laying around... so I decided to cut the $hit out of one. and ended up with this =)
Gotta order a fuel gauge too but thats soon to come.
Finished product aside from figger'n out how to light it. The gauges took up alot of space and I had to take the tach and speedo bulbs out to make room.
So Im probably going to try and figure somthing out
Just went through all the pages and everything looks great, lots of luck with the project. I love the hood too btw (I might have to copy that if my current plan fails :)). For gauges I was just gonna install oil and temp above the radio because I need those now and than redo the cluster when I'm bored with just speedo, tach, fuel, and volt.
Thanks Bob, Its been one hell of a fun road from start to now. I look back at it and somtimes Ill go through the thread page by page to refresh my mind of what all I have done and think, wow. Most people my age (Im 21) are souping up hondas, buying pre-built toys with parental moneys, or buying somthing... starting a very complex job and dropping it because its not worth it to them.
Ive gotten so INSANELY lucky with this car. Money has been there almost right exactly as I need it. The saddest part of this build is it just started out as a K-member swap and a carbed 302 drop in and beat the f*ck out of it car. When I got into it and had the doghouse all ripped apart and started fixing the strut towers I noticed a bunch of things that just wouldnt fly with me. Ended up being a total rebuld. Everything from crash bumper to crash bumper that could be replaced/ modded/changed/altered has been done. By the time I get the 351 built for it Im going to have about 20k in this car, and ya know what? It is sooooo totallllllllly worth it. I cant wait for it to fire up for the first time and announce its presence.
As for the hood, It still needs a SHLOAD of attention but I figured while I had the down time to screw with it when I did, I would. Its gonna look pretty nasty sittin up there. The only bad thing is its hella heavy. Its a good 15-20#'s heavier than the stocker, but I havent trimmed out the bottom side yet nor cut the brace for the air cleaner to clear either so who knows it might end up being the same weight as the stocker.
The gauges were a very meticulous, quite daunting task. I have no room in the car for gauges. The tray above the radio will be a switch panel for IGN, fan and staging lock so that ate up that area. Im running a 15 gal cell, well the factory fuel gauge wasnt gonna work... and the temp, oil pressure, and ampmeter never DID work in the first place. It really bothered me when I was driving it as a DD a few years ago because I watch my gauges like a hawk. I didnt want to spend a shiznitload of money on gauges when the factory tach and speedo worked really nice already. Ive always been somewhat of a sticler for a semi-stock appearing interior without the BS. The sunpro gauges fit the bill quite nicely if I dont say so myself, theyre behind the clear cover so they look stock I doubt if anybody that didnt know me or the car would look inside and think they werent factory aside from the "SUNPRO" name on them. I think they came out looking really clean and nice.
As of 2 days ago Im really itchin to get it driveable. My cousin has a 90 SC 5speed that he talks a bunch of shiznit about it being so fast. My buddies stang walked it on motor and a shiznit AOD, and as far as I know my bird is set up wayyyy better than the stang just because of the new-ness of the parts and the weight savings and stuff. Nic's stang was built 9-10 years ago as a basket that turned out real nice. its pushing 400hp on spray (when it had the T5) It also has a trashed trac-lok and py gears.
My bird should walk the SC no prob.

Not much progress today but Its getting theyre. Its home got one hell of a cleaning seeing how it was a freak 65* day.
now i see wires.. :(
love the look of the gauges!
Im hoping to put a coil cover in and cover those wires. and thanks
What has to be done when you take out the stock fuel gauge? Is it just a straight swap?
it can be. depending on what youre doing. I ran all new wires but you can splice into the gauge harness and wire it however. but be careful what gauge you run if youre using the stock sending unit.. I think ours are 33/240
Oh those guages look killer. did you end up having to cut the dash face trim to get it to fit over your oil guage in the corner? I'm wondering because I will have to do the same with mine when I go fully custom. I've redesigned my layout 3 times and sat for hours trying to fugure out a way to get everything to fit without having to go down to a lower size guage set than I want but it's not possible. $800 for a set is frikken crazy but I feel your pain... that's the only reason I haven't gone fully custom yet on mine is cause of the $450 it'll cost me for the set that I want to use.
I actually trimmed out from under the gauge about 5/16-3/8 from the face of the panel. It was a royal PITA to get the gauge into that perticular spot. it was a 2thumb job. the others were a peice of cake. I would, however,if someone else were going to do this advise to try and get the outer gauges further away from the tach and speedo.
yeah mine will be totally custom, so it will be all enclosed guages. As long as the faces don't sit on top of each other I'll be fine. I even contacted Auto Meter to make sure everything will fit good
(http://i1140.photobucket.com/albums/n567/sarjxxx/2011-01-27205029.jpg)
steve, are the lines where you'll be cutting? if so, they're not going to fit
The circles are the outermost point of the guage faces. The asterisks are just a result of a lot of measurements for the center points of my radiuses for the layout. and the crosses are where I will be putting screws to hold down the sheet metal that will be going on the face of the cluster to smooth everything out. And don't worry, I've got plans to get around the not fitting part of the process. That is why I was curious what Blackjack did if he had to cut his surround or not b/c you can see from my circles that I will definitely have to. It wouldn't be so bad but if you look at the surround, it starts to dip down as it gets closer to the left side at the top. All the factory clusters are actually cut for that stupid curve. Which is stupid. Did I mention that stupid curve is stupid?
agreed on the curve.. that's why i use aluminum sheet metal and spray it with 'wrinkle finish' paint, for customers that want that 'semi-stock' look.. then just cover it with some 1/8" plexiglass.. it's also much easier to be cutting something up that i don't have to search the junkyard for, if i slip or screw up lol
If you run 2" gauges you wont have to cut the surround. all my gauges fit neatly under the stock gauge lense.
Ode to shadow. He haaaaaad to bring up the wires.
and I threw the trunk panels in to mock up what Im going to do about the cell, battery and how Im going to TRY and hide some stuff.

15 gal.
A small update. I built a tray for the battery box to fit in and undercoated the trunk, filled all the holes and all that jazz. No pics but Ill tell ya it looks good.
Got most of the battery relocate wiring done, got the fuel lines ran, waiting on rear springs, going to continue wiring in the Ignition, fan and staginglock Trunk is somewhat back together but not final until I get some shocks and other assorted goodies as in my sub box, and various wiring done. but shes comming together.
Found a very close color to what Im going to paint this old girl when all is said and done.
well, I figured out 99%of my wiring. I got the battery in the trunk on charge. Started adding the good fluids, cranked it a few times to prime the oiling system.
Im hoping today is the day alot of us were waiting for. She hasnt got fuel to the filter yet but im hoping I can burn some up =)
does it run yet? does it run yet? does it run yet? lol
Nope not tonight. have to figure out some timing BS. it backfired a few times and that was it. annnnd my coil was arcing all over the place... so I swapped coils. I have a nasty fuel leak too. but I know what and where it is. tomorow im going to play with the timing. hopefully get the old girl to fire tomorow. I have a nasty rep for usually being 180* off. but its not even in the ballpark tonight. No idears cause everything is where its sopposed to be.
Is that Brandywine I see??
why yes, yes it is :)
Hey ya got alllll weekend. Unless you work weekends. But still, almost ready to run. BTDT with the putting-the-dizzy-in-180-out lol. Definitely a different choice on the paint, I'd love to see how that looks...
Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll My carb sucks.
but it DID fire up... for about 20 sec's then died and will stay running with light feathering of the loud pedal. Cant keep it going long enough to video it.
Thats what I get I suppose for running parts from 4 different carbs. a new holley is in order but until then I had me a celebrational beer or two
silly holleys.. lol i prefer edelbrock race carbs
In my opinion ebrocks are more finicky to tune
I dunno I have an old carter AFB i might try and rebuild.
Congrats on making some noise! cant wait for the video :)
in my experience, a hurt edelbrock is easier to straighten out than a hurt holley.. i'm currently trying to weed out the last of the holleys i own.. plus jet/needle changes are a breeze with an edelbrock.. everything's right in top! lol
I prefer Holley, I've always had luck with them. If I have problems I can ask a freind, he's the holley doctor.
Meh. You silly cavemen and your Jurassic carbs lol
More seriously...can't wait to see/hear the thing fired up...bring on that vid!
OOGA OOGA, you silly future man and your fuel injection stuffs lol
i agree, can't wait to hear her fire up.. want to borrow my demon? LOL kidding!
I think Im gonna fiddle with the carb thats on it. It ran my 460 decently. and has had a jet change since then. Im thinkin the floats are all dickered up. Probably gonna set the floats adjust the accel pumps probably (depending on how far that gets me) do another jet change to find that sweet spot. If I cant find any resolution with that Im going to save up for a new 600 and quit ing with this carb. 600cfm will give me just enough and room for more.
but my bird is on the backburner for the next few weeks until I get the OTHER bird in the garage put back together. buddy brought over his 88 LX for a rebuild.. man I think there was more oil on the outside of this motor than was ever in it... Oh well.... cheap undercoat XD
Agreed! Once you go efi GT40 you never go back carbed ;-)
coughBScough.. once you go completely AFTERMARKET efi, you'll never go back.. ;)
Hehehehe go with a "Preditor" carb. lol
ME! lol it's true, though.. 1 go-around with aftermarket efi, and you'll be wanting to throw everything else in the s pile, too lol
ed with the carb and got a few vids. My camera sucks, and I cant find the cord for kate's so until I find it deal with the vids lol.

my computer must not like your car.. it won't let me watch the vids! i assume you got it semi straightened out, though?
yeah. the floats in the carb were all sorts of out of whack. still not quite right but i didnt wanna run it to long at a time due to open headers.
Btw... I got my rear lowering springs today. and holey moley they are no joke a full 2.5 inches shorter than the LX springs. Maybe JUST MAYBE I wont have a car that looks like a 4x4 lol.
Looking forward to seeing your car. :D
Im looking forward to the maiden voyage.... to the gas station of all places is probably going to be my first stop. lol.
I think my springs made the car sit just right (so far) now I can actually use the function of my adjustabe perches! :D

Geordy bought his 88 LX back. This motor was on it last leg... and had no joke about 1" worth of sludge everywhere on it.
It should be going back in somtime within the weekend
My mac lers and tank straps should be here by either the end of the week or beginning of next. SWEEEET. Now I can finish up the exhaust.
and on the other bird.. we got the motor put in, headers, hpipe, and flowmaster dumps. it fired up just need to button it back up
The lers will be here tuesday. Then I can finish up the exhaust and call it good there. Then its onto things like notching the rear bumper for the exhaust tips and re-installing said bumper... then putting my trunk back together, re-mounting my coil, tidying up the wires in the engine bay and possibly throwing some fenders on the old girl for mock up painting the hood hinges and getting 99% of the front clip back together to start finishing up on my hood.
Then the real pain begins. Changing the heater core... and the easy stuff like putting some shocks in it. Then as far as I know besides topping off the fluid in the T5 the mechanical tinkering is done for now.. Still have to change out the power rack for a non power rack. Thats on down the road though.
Well I got very curious today. Everything is just mocked up not even tight no hinges or anything like that. I just wanted to see what she was going to look like cause its been so long I almost forgot.
And I realized when I got the hood out in the light whoo.. its wavy. Ive got alot more work to do to that bad boy.

doughnut skinnies! lol it looks pretty good so far, minus the waviness.. shouldn't take much to get her in shape, though
Nah. I just gotta get around to doing the rest of the welding, shape the rearmost portions and glass it after I cut a BFH in the underside so it'll be functional.
Ontop of having to pull the dash, do the heater core and dye the dash cause the bottom gray half or what is sposed to be gray is all sorts of other colors than gray.
Im hoping to get the body back together soon as I tie up some loose ends with it as far as mechanics go. I might have her in paint by next year. but thats next year and this is now. haha.

Well... the heater core is getting changed. and so is some of my oh so wonderful rats nest of a wiring harness. I started to take the dash out and realized how BAD I used to be at wiring. from the multiple radios, to the sport cluster swap. even my new gauges were a bit of a hack job. I found a ton of open wires and decided well, the dash is out time to widdle away the unneccesary garbage and possibly re-wire my recent wirings. I seem to have a ton of wires going in so many useless places.
I guess ive grown out of my teenage hackjobs. everything else on the car has been nit picked by me and done, redone, and redone and redone. its time to finish it right.
Anybody have a evtm or somthing along the lines of WHAT to cut out of this mess? like speaker wiring, ecu related things I dont have anymore. I dont wanna cut out anything vital but I also dont want the extra
I have a evtm for 87 and 88, I'm finishing up the rewiring of my car for race only trim. I still use EFI, P/W , P/M and the lights.
I took some pics of the work in progress, now I need to post them when I get home and get a chance.
87 T-BIRD, that'd be awesome. all Im looking to trim out is the non essentials.
But I fianlly got the interior all cleaned out and all the years of dust debris and rust cleaned out and chipped 99% of the factory sound deadener out and undercoated the entire floor section after a nice heavy coat of self-etch primer.
And I dyed my dash. The interior is going to be black and grey more black than gray of course.
What did you spray the dash with? was there any other prep work, or just clean and spray? Just curious because I have been thinking about doing the same to mine for a while now, just haven't got the courage to try it yet
I did get some pics uploaded in another thread( point of no return thread) but for some reason not all of the pics will upload. By looks of the pics you are still using the EFI, is that correct? I will try to take some pics of the wiring diagrams and upload them, if it doesn't work, I will give you the wire colors.
87thunderbirdblackjack, I was able to take pics of my evtm diag and load it on my computer, would you like me to send it to your email address? These pics are of the radio diag. let me know what you are doing with EFI and I can take pics of that also.
87 T-BIRD you have a PM.
Sinista Chicken- I went over the dash really throughly with alcohol and a lint free rag. After the alcohol dried up I hit it with a few light coats of adhesion promoter enough that when the final product was done it had a white somewhat chalky look to it. and finally I hit it with several light coats of duplicolor vinyl dye. all of which can be had at your local autoparts store.
No pics of todays progress, but I got the carpet home from storage shook it out really nice and pulled the garbage off of the back side, now.... ya'll say chipping the sound deadener off the floor was a PITA.... That was a cakewalk compared to the jute pad on the carpet. But I got the carpet settled into the car and got a couple nice coats of dye on it.
Is your whole dash vinyl? Mine prob different because it's an '80, but only the dash pad is vinyl, the rest is plastic. Does that vinyl dye work on plastic also? I've never used the stuff before.
Yeah it worked really nice on the heater vents and all that jazz.
I must ask how good the finish was on your dash after you sprayed it...i'm nervous to even buy the door handle cups i need because I haven't had good luck with painting pieces...always turns out with little fleks and spots and bumps in the finish. And I'm nearly done getting that ridiculously thick sound deadener out of the floor of my trunk....hopefully new sound deadener is thinner and wont trap moisture liek the old stuff
My dash turned out fantastic actually.
Its all in the prep work. I wore gloves used a nice clean peice of cardboard to sit everything on, straight isopropyl alcohol on a fresh shop towel and scrubbed everything off, let it dry real nice. Hit it all with several thin coats of adhesion promoter let it tack up real nice and hit it with duplicolor vinyl dye. The dash isnt that bad its mainly places that have had years of almost constant contact with the driver like armrests and stuff that have built up a oily residue from the sweat and oils in the skin yadda yadda... college training is comming out of me now... Most importantly is flash time and dry time and light coats. Ill admit back when I first started using spray paint I ALWAYS jumped the gun with it. I hammered on the paint. and then D.A. here went back 15 min. later and touched it....
prep it, shoot it, flash, re-shoot, flash, re-shoot, flash, re-shoot. and walk away for a few hrs.

Its commin' back together!
Awesome!!
thanks! Im at a standstill for now. Out of cash for 1, for 2 the chassis work isnt completely done yet. still need a steering rack, shocks, a good carb, and some other rinky items before I can really worry to much about the interior. When I jamb it in and swap doors and all that fun stuff and start peicing the body together for a final fit will I worry about the interior going together.
Once the doors are on and jambed in and all the jambs are painted Ill start worrying about the piddley stuff. Then its on to body work and saving for some decent rims and tires. Hopefully I can sell some stuff to add to my pocket and get both of the daily drivers up to par and driving correctly I can focus more on this car.. The sooner this baby is driveable the better! So I can park the bel-air in the garage also and get to work hanging floors and quarters on it.
I just noticed you have a Bel-Air, I got a '67 4 Door myself, baby blue w/ 283 and Dynaglide....it also needs floors and quarters

Yessirr its dark blue 355 turbo 350 12bolt with the origional plastic on the back seat
Mind you, Im running low on fuel and need a carb in the worst way imagineable. but heres a good video of the idle with the MAC's

Ok I decided to clean the garbage off the bird and take some pics of what I have done to it recently after/during the heater core install.
I tidy'd up the engine bay. Someone pointed out that there were quite a few wires going EVERYWHERE... well.... not no mo!

I finally Mounted my circuit breaker for the alt, loomed the wires, tucked some stuff up yadda. its dirty but when I get to the point that I REALLY care about the dust Ill be driving it.
Whatchall think?
reading this makes me see how much work i have ahead of me lol. keep it up its looking shagy under that hood :)
Thankya. its not really bad. just take alot of measurements.
Well I hit a crossroads. Im broke and I want to work on the car still. I had a junk spoiler laying around that Ive had for a good long while now. Well I cut it up and realized that it wouldnt work the way I had Intended it to. So I thought to my self.... Ill take a few bones and a tape measure aon a few tools to my local take a part.
I scoured that lot looking for a wing, hell even a feather would have worked! I ran down the lines looking for somthing that caught my eye... nothing. I hit the GM line and BAM I saw a late 80's camaro sitting there with its little ducktail style spoiler went a measured it out and it was a couple inches off no big deal ya know. So I bought it!
I paid, and went straight home to see how far my measurements were off. Well I tell ya, I took 1/4 inch off of each side of the main piece. Set it on the trunk lid and it fit so perfect it was unreal. The the side peices came into play. Well I had top shave them down quite a bit but nothing horrific. drilled some holes in the side of the bird (that was killing me to do) and everything lines up quite nice.
Ive always been a HUGE fan of the FMS ducktail wing but theyre becomming more and more scarce and I knew if I found one it was going to literally murder my wallet. So I figure for $15 bux I'd give it a try.

I still have some tpuppies to do to get everything fitting just right, hell its just held on there with frog tape at the moment anyway. But Im really liking the way it looks, Just a little subtle touch to the tail of my car. Now I know my accent color when shes all painted up nice its going to be satin black.
Whatcha'll think?
Cool idea. I'm still liking it !!!!
That is a cool idea Clayton!
I dont like how far it goes down the side of the car. If it stopped at the pin stripe I'd like it.
Is it hollow or solid fiberglass? If it's solid, then reshaping it to shorten on the sides would be easy to do, and would match up to the shape of the car well.
its hollow. I like how it lays out really well. The only little mod im going to do is the bottom tip of the wing im going to shave so it follows the contour from the edge of the taillight
I like it!!
It looks good man!! I've been trying to figure out how to make a ducktail for my Bird. I've been wanting to make a sheetmetal one, just havent had the time to form one and test fit it.
I think it's going to look good!
has some great potential.
Ive always wondered what it would take to make one of those work. Looks awesome man! Just dont think the Cougars trunk would take well to it.
thanks guys! I just got done laying some 'glass. Letting it dry real nice. I did run into a huge problem though. I guess I left the main spoiler piece in a very unsafe spot. I opened up the garage today after work and saw my spoiler laying in 2 pieces. somebeach... Oh well. It wasnt a real big deal just glassed it back together. But the side pieces are comming along nicely. IM glassing in the really big gaps which were only on the underside of the pieces where the QP meets the trunk unseen from the untrained eye but totally irritating to me!
I did get the winglets formed to the wing mounted on the new decklid.. That is a huge plus side. Everything fits really well. Its going to be on the car and glazed soon as I can get there.
The only part about this whole endeavor thats going to bother me the most is where the ends of the spoiler were capped off so to speak I have it so tight fitting that I cant possibly glass them shut. But oh well It'll be shut 99% of the time anyway so anybody who looks too close needs to back away anyway.
Soon as I get some more work done Ill take some pictars.
You can close the ends...just remove a small amount of material from the ends of the spoiler where it's open, then add some fiberglass to seal it shut. If you're going through all the effort to install it, go that little extra mile and finish it.
I was thinking of getting some thin aluminum and doing it that way. so I know the ends are flat for sure.

Went a little pic crazy but you get the idea
That's awesome. I really do like that. A little more fine tuning, and you're there. Great work. I wonder if the Sport would want one. I'll ask her.
Thankya! just to think... I used a mullet mobile part and made somthing cool. I tell ya the hardest part of all of it was drilling holes in the quarters to mount the winglets
Small update. I started working on the hood a little more. I finished welding up the vital areas and glassed it in so it would be smooth. Ive got a long way to go still but the hood is taking shape now. Ill be a little happier when the hood is done, blocked, primered and ready to bolt on. I think the majority of the body work to do to this thing are a few rinky things here and there. the lower quarters need some attention and the doors need some time in them but aside from all that the rest of the body work to be done is minimal. I cant wait til it is able to be bolted together for a final fit. then worry about the little stuff.
Well I got to sanding down the glass I layed and got to looking at the hood. I stood back and realized that I will have way to much time in this hood making it perfect. and it weighs a TON!. I kinda pushed it off to one side so If I get bored I can come back to it. I still have another plain jane TC hood if it comes down to it. But I also had another hood somewhat made up just incase I changed my mind.... Well... I think I did.

Stock hood with a factory C9 '69 mustang/torino short boss scoop. Simple, and clean. I even have the factory turn signal lights for the back of it.
I wonder how a scoop from an early '80'sMustang would look...one of the larger, rear facing GT scoops. Of course, turned around so it'd look "right".
Mad props on the 'Maro ducktail. I'd definitely do that to mine, it's different, and fresh, and I dig it. :)
you know I was thinking about that myself. Theres a kid in town with a 83 or 84 stang with the 3" tall wide scoop. I was kind of pondering what that would look like on the bird. I dunno though. Im always changing my mind on the hood lol. Its one of the parts I'll be seeing the most.
Thanks If you want some info on the ducktail just lemme know. It took some tricks but other than that it was really easy
It would look like this :) (not intended as a hijack )
Yes! FTMF'nW!
Turbines too! A double Hell Yeah!
Did you put it on?
Got the tail all mocked up and looking good. to bad it all has to come back apart for me to fix the rear quarters. But I did some little mods and finished welding up my exhaust. Man, those mac lers talk to ya nice. I still have some fitment work to do to the cut outs in the bumper but it tucked up in there nice enough for today.

What do ya think?
Very nice. You did some really nice work. You're also the first to do that.
Thanks Vin! I cant wait until some more moolah rolls my way. I still need shocks, all the front accy. brackets I decided that Im keeping my power steering for a while Plus this march alternator bracket blows.
I think by tax time next year Ill dump some major cheddar on rims and rubber and hopefully before that happens Ill atleast have all the bodywork done and she'll be ready for paint.
Brackets are all over the Corral.
I may have a spare bracket...which one you need?
non ac serpentine style brackets I need them all. Im going back to a system that actually you know... works haha. The alt bracket I got from summit looks nice.. but thats it.
You need the Stang PS bracket and the little a/c delete kit by Ford Racing.
Yep. But in the midst of getting it going I sped all my remaining parts including my bracketry No biggy though the local take a part should have what I need
The cam really makes some noise now.
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/Tcj429/th_MOV00683.jpg) (http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/Tcj429/?action=view¤t=MOV00683.mp4)
What cam are running? Thats not an "RV" cam.
It was cold too. It smooths out as it warms up.
Its some off brand cam I cant seem to find the sheet but I remember somthing to the tune of .398in/.420ex
I likey the way it sounds cold...... It should idle like that when it's warm
Also, when your ready for paint, give me a call
What kind of springs are you using? I've had a real hell of a time trying to decide what springs to buy to get good ride height..even pondered getting coilovers just to set it myself lol. I've got cargo coils on the back now, with offset 275's, and they rub.....and on the front I've got a broken v6 spring on one side and a melted v8 spring on the other side...and they rub too :P. I want a good looking height as well as retain a good smooth ride, but I don't want the tires to catch on the fenders every time i pull into a driveway...Theres the v6, v6 heavy duty, and v8 springs from moog ive been lookign at, but dont know what to get...any thoughts?
Lol it does idle like that when warm just not as lopey. I built this motor for one purpose. to move the car until I can get crackin on the 351. It up until today had cost me less than 200 bux to build the motor. now its a $435 thanks to the new holley sitting on top of it.
When I paint it, its going to be all me :) thanks for the offer though. Im hoping it turns out as good as Im imagining it in my head
Im using 300# coilovers up front that came with my granatelli frount suspention kit. and some summit knockoff 3" lowering springs for a mustang on my CHE adjustable lowers cranked about 1" up
Well I ran out of money again. So it was time to do some more body work. I'm starting with the driver side then I'll eventually make my way to the passenger side. Most of the real bad spots are on the driver side anyway. once the rear quarters are done, Ill start on the doors thats a ways away right now though.
This is what I have right now. the etch primer before the wheel well is still wet.

I was digging through some of my old threads looking for some info and I came across this
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/Tcj429/Picture172.jpg)
YIKES. Hard to belive that this car Im working on used to be THAT car lol
Here I sit with a dilemma. I have a very nice TC header panel. I have a very nice LX header panel. Im having a very tough time deciding weather I would like the TC nose or keep with my LX nose...
I got to looking into the 4 eye swap and I guess Ive conned myself out of it. Now Im trying to decide apples? or oranges..
That's a non-issue. Paint them both to match the car, and swap them when you need a little something different. See? Easy.
LOL. I have all the lights for both. but the LX lights the covers seperated from the buckets. I might just go TC header.
small update. I scored some used KYB 4way adjustable struts for the front today talk about free.99. oooooohhhhh yeah! Now I just got to rip the front end apart and replace mine. The only Issue I was having with mine was the fact that with the coil overs and the caster camber plates I barely had enough thread to get the top nut threaded on and then it was tight. Hopefully this fixes my issue
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/Tcj429/0628021300.jpg)
Ive got some little things to do to get my ride height the way I want it still, but Im going to do all that when I put the rear shocks in. Its sitting all pen 15ed right now. The driver side is pretty close to where I want it. But it needs to go about 3/4- 1" to make me happy. Ill dial the coilovers in when I put my KYB's in the front.
I decided that the LX nose was a little lacking in the look of the car. I always liked it but it made it have a little to much going on up front. So I swapped the TC header I was trying to sell on it and I think it looks quite a bit better.
Whatcha think?
I like the T/C nose better as well.
I may have missed it, but what are your plans for final paint color?
I think I settled on house of kolor's wild cherry kandy and semi-gloss black
Sounds cool! I've been eyeing the Lava Red paint code on the 2012 Mustangs. It would lend itself well to one of our cars! You should check it out.
loving that boot lip spoiler
Thanks! Ive been thinking about c00ching quite a few of them up and making them like I did mine and selling them. Cause I love having somthing different but I know quite a few people like them also but dont have the ability to make them.
Lava red? sounds WAY to bright for the look Im going for. I want the absolute darkest red possible. So dark that it looks jet black. but when the light hits it all you see is a nice red glimmer. If you go back a few pages theres a '49 merc I posted a pic of thats brandywine colored that kinda shows the real depth and color that Im going for.
EDIT: Totally eating my words about the lava red. Thats gorgeous. I might hit it with a touch more red pearl though.
Yeah I know cool color isnt it! I guess that they had to stop production of it for awhile due to the destruction in puppiesan from the tsunami's. If I ever repaint my old Chevelle, I think that color would look awesome.
Anyway, keep up the good work you are making great progress man!
I agree, you're doing a great job with it! I've always liked the lighter copper color I saw on a Saleen Mustang, it was called and birillium. I know I mispelled it but it sounds right. lol! I always thought if I ever get another T-Bird to keep I'll have it painted that. I have seen a couple done now and it looks good on our cars.
That looks to be the color im going for. I think it'll look sweet on my car
I can't freakin' wait to see lava on one of our cars. Get to paintin' son! lol, seriously I think that will make for a gorgeous and different paint color for your car.
totally. That with some satin black accent and dark grey pinstripes mmmmm. gotta get some body work done.
House of Kolor is very nice paint indeed, but also very very expensive just for materials.
I likey that color on that stang. It'll look good on your bird.
I think it's going to look great too!
I think the bulk of the bodywork will be done this winter when its not so freakin hot. Im going to try and have the old girl about 80% ready for paint over the winter. Im hoping to have the rest of the big things as far a mechanics and rims and rubber done come tax season. HOPEFULLY. So if all else fails, I can atleast drive a calico next summer. I have everything taken care of besides a new steering rack, rear shocks 4 extra lug nuts, prostars ,bumpsteer kit and some other odds n ends and final tuning. I cant wait to tear up town with this thing.
As far as progress goes I got my KYB's in today and adjusted my coilovers so they were matched. So far the nose is about 90% done.
Then I want to drive it and get all the little obnoxious problems fixed then shoot some primer, paint, and finish up any loose ends I have
The plan sounds good. I hope to start bodywork as soon as my son is back in school.
When you get this thing done it'd be cool if I could see it in person! Ft Wayne is a little far to swing by and check out your progress though.
Youre tellin me! I didnt think there were to many us in Indiana. Theres only 2 fox tbirds and cougars that Im familiar with here. I started building this car because I dont see them around here. lol.
It would be cool to meet up when shes drivable.
There are enough of us Hoosier guys on here that we could start our own club. Trying to think of all the others besides us two: Gumby and Chuck in Indy, Dan down in Evansville, seems as though there are a couple more too.
Yeah I'd be down to see it 1st hand. Maybe power tour will come through Indy again in the next few years and we could have a little fox bird/cougar meet!
Im good to go just about anywhere. now if the bird is thats a different story. The car isnt much to look at right now other than its comming together. Its dirty nasty and full of junk lol.
I'm here too :nono:
Ya, that would be cool for all of us to meet up. I'm pretty much done with the body work on mine. I just got to prime/block her out a few times then she'll be ready for paint.
I knew I forgot someone...sorry dude.
All's good. No hard feelings :mullet:
I think lava red would look awesome on your car :).
thanks a bunch Louis I think when its all done its gonna be the pride of the drive way. aside from the bel air they'll be pretty equal.
I picked up a Edelbrock 600 for $50 earlier this week. I tossed it on the car today and got it fired up. It likes the ebrock carb alot better than the holley I had on it.. :dunno:
All I have to do now is wire in the E choke then I presume wait until I hit the lottery so I can finish up some of the loose ends then maybe drop it off for an allignment So I may be able to drive the old beast again
Sounds good...bet you will be glad to drive your car. Going for a big "power cruise" always helps spur the interest in the car even more for me.
oh definatly. I cant wait to take her down the road. But I have a a few more things to tie up in the front steering aspect but other than that As long as It makes it where I direct it for the first few trips. Im golden
Little update.

Much better with some actual tire under the nose.
Lookin good there. :D
It sits better now. I like it.
mmmm.
Very nice!!
in all honesty. The pictures just dont do it justice. It looks sooo much better when you can actually see it
hey! wheres that door!! lol
sitting on some sawhorses waiting for me to give it some lovin
good place for it, must be ready for a massage or something :poke:
well I started stripping the trim off of it. going to get her as bare as I can then sand it down and take the little dings out of it. and the dent. Weld a panel in for the Keyless entry and yadda yadda.
Then it gets to meet the car and then Iget to play with my other door.
It's going to be killer when you get her done and driver her here. Although we'll probably have to keep the 2 cars apart........so they don't make little tempos.......LOL
Yessir. I cant wait til I can take her around the block. I bet ill be ecstatic for that much less on over to Hebron lol. I remember taking it to CJ back in 07. That was fun but that was also almost factory haha. I dont even remember what it used to drive like. I just know that it was tired and sacked out in every way possible
Small update. I started working on my door I got from Graham. Got the keyless entry hole all welded up and started taking it down to get it level. Not really much of anything else.
Thats about it lol.
I started work on my door got it ready for some filler and all the goodies.
Scored a manual driver side seat track from Eric (the_intimidator03)
and might have a very good chance at a very nice replacement for my mule motor. just need to come up with the money. Its a dyno proven 400+ horse explorer 302 GT40P heads, Ebrock victor intake, 750 holley, 150 shot, MSD 6al with studder box, all dialed in and ready to drop in and go. Just need 800 bux. lol
ive got a pretty decent update for you guys. Its been a little while. I got another job and havent had time to turn around it seems. Well heres the story. I had been saving for an already built 302 with a cam, GT40P's, nitro, and all sorts of go fast goodies on it. it was dynoed in on a 150 shot at 425 horse. thought woah cool! my buddy said $800 for it.... SWEET! got the 8 saved up and went to talk to him and he said he was going to finish the car no big deal I had 800bux to play with. After he lays on the bad news he goes on to tell my one of his buddies has a 83-84 GT for sale that comes with 2 motors. OK How much? then he goes on to tell me all the stuff in theese motors/ car/ blah blah.
Well Ill get to the price here in a minute.. I bought it. but this is what I got out of it.
2 roller 302's
1 set of E7's or E6's 1 Set of edelbrock performer ALUMINUM heads
2 pairs of headers
2 mallory distributors set up for a MSD 6AL
1 MSD 6AL box
another t5 and all the trimmins.
a holley 600 and edelbrock 600
1 chrome performer 289 intake and 1 satin edelbrock 289 also.
1 set of black pony's and 2 regular pony's
some dumb 5" monster tach
2 very nice grey seats with HALO headrests.
1 motor in the car, and the other on the floor.
The car looks good from a distance but is a total rot box.
Alright heres the price. $750. for everything.

Nice score Clayton!!!
Glad to see you working on it still.
What kinda shape is the "extra" t-5 in? Would you sell it to help fund your project?
Nice score! The heads alone are worth that.
I've got those heads on my T-bird. With a stock GT40 intake (that flows 205 cfm) and the 1.90 valve Performers (which flow 245 cfm intake), and the rest of the mods in my sig the car runs 97 mph in the quarter, at a 3700lb race weight. With a ported GT40 lower (which will flow 250 cfm) and a 70mm TB I have no doubt it will hit at least 100 mph in the quarter. With a lighter weight car and a T5 you're T-bird should trap 105+ easily. You got a great deal :).
Awsome deal! wow! I like the scoop on the stang too. It looks like one from a Boss 9.
Sweet score Clayton!!!
thanks guys! Well i tried to make the pony run today by getting some stuff sorted out. eh, this pony is part nova... no-go. I got her to crank and backfire big as can be. No worries though. I decided I had heard enough. I started by ripping the monster tach out. Didnt know if I wanted to save it or not so I set it on the bench. It had a pillar pod with a couple gauges in it, yanked that out. I disected the absolutly horrific wiring nightmare that was the MSD box. I think when I was 10 I didnt do this bad of half-assery. All thats really left now is to get the exhaust dropped, motor and tranny mounts and some other little BS nipped out of the way and the alum headded motor is ready to be tossed on a stand and gone through.
I was working on it and my cousin popped in and was all mustang this and mustang that and the question arose "wanna sell the tranny?" I said shoot me an offer. he said 400 I said done. so now the car only cost me $350. SWEET! ill make the rest back in no time. Thats head work, possibly a good cam, and some other aftermarket anomalies.
Im excited.
Nice wheeling and dealing! If you were closer I would be asking you about one of the roller 5.0 engines.
im planning on sending the heads out to be planed and trued once i get the money. But Im using those on my 351 when I get it around to being built. Thats about 2k away still. machine work and the rotating assembly. but atleast I knocked a big chunk of my motor build money out. I was either going with AFR's Trickflows, or Edelbrock heads. so score one for the home team there. I have the MSD now and I intend on using that bad boy to the max. rev limiter will keep my ponies in line. I just cant wait to get the motor out of the stang and get it on a stand.
Both motors came with ARP bolt kits in them so im set there. If memory serves me the one in the car has harland sharp 1.6 roller rockers. Basically when it comes time to build my 408 Im set top end wise. All I really need is the rotating assembly, intake and a cam which ive already pretty much decided on aside from whick one I want to spend the cheddar on first.
The motor thats on the floor at the moment will be the first one to hit the stand. All that one needs is to be cleaned up real nice, painted (not ford blue), and just detailed and tossed in. I decided that Im going to keep my power rack seeing how I have a good working accy. drive pulley setup now. all I need is new inner tie rods and a bump steer kit with a new steering shaft then that particular portion is done. Im going to most likely cut down the H-pipe in the mustang and weld some 3 bolt s to it so I can get my exhaust done a little better and be able to drop it whenever I want/need to. its gonna be really cool to see it all come together... again.
By the way has anyone had any experiance with using a MSD 6AL box and keeping the factory tach in working condition?
Hey Clayton.......... Have I got the cam for your 351w and those heads. That is if the block your using is non-roller. It's a comp cam .544 lift w/ 240/246 Dur @.50 lift. Duration at .006 is spec'd @ 284/296. It's just sitting around in it's box collecting dust.
Lol I've got the odd dog 351 mine is a roller. That project is out in deep water right now. I'm gonna drop a motor in and go for now, tie up all my loose ends first blow the car apart, do all the body work she needs, shoot her then its time for the big kahuna.. then shortly after that's all done a TKO. Cause this T 5 won't last very long I'm sure. I haven't been nice to it so we'll see. With the combo I have I'm shooting for mid 13's. My buddies 87 GT has about the same combo motor wise as the motor I'm about to clean up and toss in for the moment sans the spray. Motor for motor the one I have on the floor is from my buddies convertible. Motor against motor the Vert spanked my buddies GT with spray it was a different story. But nics GT ran low 11's on the bottle. Just for a temp motor until I decide what the hell I'm doing ill be satisfied with it.
As for the 408. I was going to run a CHP 408 street fighter kit with either a TFS stage 1 cam or a f303 wasn't sure on that one yet all comes down to cheddar I s'pose. Me ebrock heads, a super victor jr intake, and be set. Its going to be done the first time I do it until I crave more power or get some miles on it. I was thinking of mounting a novi 2000 on the side at a set 6 or 7 psi.
The suspention can near handle everything that I'm going to throw at it. The only thing that even remotely spooks me is the fact that I could tear my torque boxes all up. Then I'd have to figure out a plan from there. Maybe by then I can terminate all and back half the car with a 9" and a 4 link and tub it. But that's a wet dream at this point thinking of ripping around the block makes me smile now
Got my short term replacement motor up on the stand today. Got it stripped of all its B.S. started getting it ready for paint. I now have 2 non a/c steering pumps, a smog delete pulley, 2 pairs of solid motor mounts. I can't wait to get my motor pulled and the standby motor put in. If only the motor in my car was a roller. Eh not really. I gotta get the rustang up to the garage and blown apart so I can make some money back off of it.
Its been a productive day for me. Aside from working the graveyard shift and having 2 jobs I still manage to bust out some pretty big accomplishments. I wired in the MSD today just freelance its 2 hot wires from being done 1 to the battery and one to a keyed power. I snagged the valve covers off the donor car and swapped em on and it does have some very nice roller rockers. That got me stoked. It has fairly new lakewood drag shocks on the rear.. that surprised me. Most of this car, if it had been in the right hands and a little bit nicer... Would have probably dominated the streets around here. but unlike most cars and kids my generation most think alum heads+MSD+5speed+mustang= FAST!... yeah great parts horrible execution on this poor rustang.
Oh well picture time.

Dont mind my dusty engine bay, the car hasnt seen real daylight or any sort of water in almost 2 years.
Started stripping the donor car today. Im sooo glad i got ahold of this thing. Not just because of the parts im gaining, but for the safety of the world. Red green would be proud of this one. The car was said to be a runner. Well..... I cant see how. Nothing was tight. It was so jerry rigged it was unreal.. the good part is its stripped down to the bare bones. from what i can see if it would've been in someone else's hands it would've been a helluva nice car. The only thing that really made me laugh was the gear ratio. I had to check it to make sure it wasn't worth saving or anything. It has some extremely tall gears that if my math was right it has 4.30s in it. 10 pinion teeth and 43 ring gear teeth. Thats freakin crazy.
Are those Crane roller rockers?
I love how the guy puts Edelbrock Performer heads on it and sticks the stock "headers" back on :dunce:.
Tell me about it. That's not even the worst part. They couldn't find the right timing cover or oilpan combo or somthing dumb like that. So what do they do? Fill the gap with black rtv. Idiots.
Out with the old and in with the new. I pulled my janky 302 yesterday and transplanted the new one. All I have left is to wire the rest of the MSD, reroute the fuel system a touch, do some exhaust modding and put the radiator and stuff back in. But I busted out a very large portion of it yesterday. Picture will come later stay tuned
And Lou, they're harland sharp rockers
Nice progress Clayton.
Still no pics but she fired up. Have a lot more work to do but its getting busy around the house
heres the pics

What a difference a set of valvecovers can do to make the engine look bigger.

And thats it for now enjoy!
Looks great! About time to get that thing back on the road.
So wait which engine got swapped in? I lost track :).
I love the engines sitting on tires. That looks so funny, yet so ingenious.
Thanks bryan I can't wait to take a rip around the block.
Lou, its one of the 5 sbf's I have here. One that runs!
Zonda we use what we have to. Lol its been working like a champ for me for years. Especially for hauling them. Keeps them from moving or sliding.
I got her fired up again today added antifreeze and she's purrin like a kitten. Love it already
Well I got the exhaust redone. Modified a h-pipe to work with my longtubes. Well, now with that being said. I got her fired up and let her warm up and revved her up a bit. Its crazy. This motor sounds so much healthier than my other one. I'm so glad I bought that junk mustang..
Good to hear its running and healthy! I use old tires to hold spare engines too. Works great for transporting them in a truck bed.
No real progress I just got the doghouse back together so I could work on the girlfriends aztek, and I have a lot of auto work to do for some people. Same story this time of year lol waiting on taxes haha.
Gave her about a gallon of gas and a full charge a little while ago, pumped the gas once and she fired right up. sat and idled for a good 20 minutes, its good to hear the old girl run. aside from only one of my ponies holding air I swapped one atleast. One needs a new valve stem, and I need 2 new tires and 3 new valve stems and I should be good to go on the ponies.
Aside from that, no really big updates unfortunatly.
Small update, not a very significant one but still an update none the less. My buddy wanted his slicks and skinnies back, no biggy. This is what she's sporting for the time being. and also a start to another hood project that Im going to try out.

The hood came off my buddies new fox, its a train wreck on the underside but the scoop and most of the upper half is salvageable, the guy must have molded two fiberglass hoods together cause the under side is ugly. SVO style scoop plus a cowl for free and I have a junkish TC hood here that could use some sprucing up hopefully I get THIS one centered correctly, unlike the last one.
Cut out the good stuff. Its still up in the air

Whatcha think?
You should definetly get a shaker from a 03-04 Mach 1 and put on there! Talk about doing something really cool!
And also with the shaker beef up the hood abit, maybe using the one you mocked up now to make it "bigger". Just like they did on the 03-04 Mach 1. They beefed up the hood and also gave it the shaker which gave it a really aggressive look!
I got the hood that scoop came off of for free I'm pretty sure I'm going to stay with the short boss scoop I have I was just looking at all the options lol
is that hood section steel? or is it fiberglass?
Glass
Yeah, the short boss scoop looks better. But I definetly think you should consider a Mach 1 shaker ;)
I like it. A little short but it's workable. I might just have make a short detour to check that out
I think Im going to stick with the short boss, If you want it come get it buddy! might need it to keep that 4.6 of yours happy under the hood
Trim that bad boy up a bit on the sides to give it an easy edge to glass it on with, and it should be a pretty easy project. Flip it, cut out the framework and the skin where the new piece is and form the framework to fit the new and should be ready to roll.
If you add a hood scoop you should make it functional. Then it has a purpose ;).
Nate, I got to looking at it sitting on the car, its not really fitting with the look I'm going for. 1badbird is going to make a trip this way to check my bird out one of these weekends and I'm going to sneak it into his truck while he's not looking XD. It would be easy enough to do but it doesn't go with the "streamline-nostalgia" look I'm going for. Plus it will give is DOHC 4.6 a little more breathing room.
And Lou, my car isn't done yet give me some time, lol. Body work is the I'm broke and need somthing to tinker with portion of the progress with the old girl. Hopefully this summer I will be able to roll her out as a calico and just rock it. Need to get a little bit of drive time under her belt before I go making her all pretty. Don't want to bring out a good looking car with over 7k invested and not be able to get out of its own way
LOL!! I'll be driving my boss's Taurus ;) but it'll fit in the trunk :hick:
I hear ya. I just think it would be cool to have functioning ram air :).
Well as luck may have it soon as taxes come back i will be the owner of an 88 lx, again. I bought it back in 08 for a buddy. Well ts changed hands a few times within the friend circle and family too. Its a little rough but runs the real downfall is the tranny is on its way out. Picking it up cheap as a budget sleeper for the fiance ad i to play around with. If you look back a few pages its in here somewhere. We rebuilt the engine a year or so ago. Plans for this one is ho 8.8 bigger brakes and make it look decent. Im saving another one lol
Just finish yours, at least so its on the road. my 87 needs a twin.
Just throw a t-5 at it. I can't believe how much better it made my car. trying to kill the aod in my cougar.right now so I have an excuse to do it.
Im just doing nobuck mods. I have a great stash of parts for this already. Its gonna stay auto so she can drive it but ill have the parts ready to do it anyway lol my plans are make it look good-ish and just play with it. We both have decent dailys so its just another toy
Sweet !!
Clayton, do you everything for a T-5 swap? other than the trans...... Text my phone with what you might need. I have pretty much everything but the trans.
Its home. The tranny isnt completely toast, it demoted itself to a c6 so no overdrive. But shes pretty clean still. She has some rust but nothing that cant be fixed easily. Thanks to john all i have to hunt down is a t5. Then its time to hunt for some gt40 heads, ho cam, maf, and then install all the other goodies i already have then i have a semi stout bird to tide me over til mine is drivable.
Its a smoke gray lx with a full red tc interior, auto lamps and thats about it.
Thar she be in all her rusty glory.

Lol love the seats in the truck
I've Ben thinking about putting halo seats in my single cab f150
Nice man.
Check out local ads for blown v-6 stangs and the corall. I used a 03 trans in my bird and other then speedo, its been awesome. if you swap a tail shaft off of any 80-98 trans you can use the stock vss with it if you clearance the 5th gear shaft. I plan on doing this sometime this summer.
I almost forgot, if you were to drill out the bellhousing, you could use a stock 10.5 clutch and flywheel instead of the 11" junk I used.
Fiddled with her a little today amongst cleaning out the garage. Mounted the scoop for good and got the headlights in so she could see some. just screwing around, aside from me re-thinking my fuel delivery system. There might be some changes coming sometime
Enjoy

Well i scored some goodies for the 88 today. I hit up my favorite junkyard for parts for my blow-tie dailydriver and stumbled upon a 88 TC sans motor trans hood and diff. Everything else was still intact so the most desirable parts made their way back to the house. Header panel and all the front lights, the bumper cover and reinforcement, steering wheel with a perfect horn button, the pull strap covers, tail lights, floodlamp trim ect. All in which will find its home on either the 87 or 88. The only tastic part is that some jackhole peppered the front lights with red paint. Luckily it comes off relatively easy with mineral spirits and a shop rag, gonna take a buttload of rubbing and sanding and buffing to make them perfect. On a better note the headlights on the 88 are almost crystal clear. The outers and TC inners need a whole lotta love though.
Thats my update for now.
Cool score :) I'm going to need to come back out there for a parts delivery run. We'll discuss $$ later  lol
Yeah John, ill have the money waiting come hell or high water
Next weekend sound good?? I'm usually off from 1am Thursday till 7pm Sunday, but I try to chill out on Sunday though :mullet:
Sure. Same price as before? Buck n a half?
Sent ya a PM
Well, back out to the shop to do some more tinkering :shakeass:
Scored an almost mint set of doors, a few more 'maro ducktails one in which has the 3rd brake light, and I scored a t5 for the gray bird.
Its on.
I'm feeling motivated myself. Swapping the trans fluid for some Royal Purple today. Dear Lord, $46 for three quarts. Hope it's as good as they say.
Get out there and get your car done. Make some real progress, then get back here and brag about it !!! Maybe I can do the same soon.
yessir, all Ive got to pick up now is the pressure plate bolts and a probe pilot bearing. t5 is from a 2.3 but for no more than its gonna do it will work. Ive got a spare trunklid around thats all beat up and has a spoiler on it already, Im going to use that one to put the 'maro fin on and Im doing this one differently though. This one with the 3rd brake light is alot thicker. So its going to be a lil bit different but its going to look great.
Well, i went and did it. I just freakin did it. I decided to do the pedal swap on ol gray. Well i guess wednesday im going to finish the swap lol. I also started toying with my new ducktail. Im excited lol
Told ya ;).
Well it truly was a toss up, i had the opportunity to buy a couple aod's but the price wasnt in my range. An.d with as much as ive been working lately i was unsure about locating all the odds and ends because its awful rare around here to find a 5speed fox in a bone yard and if there was they were either picked clean or autos. John (1BadBird) hooked me up with the pedals, bellhousing, clutch, flywheel and all the pretty indescrepable parts. Ive had a pile of interior parts that finished up the rest of the little stuff. But then i was in lieu of a tranny. Well i got ahold of one of the guys that works at a yard that i frequently go to and (they used to run ministock mustangs) and asked him if they still had any laying around. He regrettably said no but had a guy about 2 towns over that did. Well longer story made shorter... i head over to the address i was given and was told to look for the maverick. I was thinking a pos junkyard dog. Oh no. 72 grabber all restored beautiful car really. Talked to the guy for about an hour or so and he asked me if i needed anything else. I said no not really, as he loaded another clutch, 2 flywheels a v8 bellhousing and a few other misc parts into the bed of my truck. With the kind words of i dont need this stuff anymore you will find a use for it im sure and left me at that. Real cool fella.
Cable still needs adjusted, but its together.

prior to the 5speed swap i swapped noses too.
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/Tcj429/graybirdtcnose_zps5216f780.jpg) (http://s18.photobucket.com/user/Tcj429/media/graybirdtcnose_zps5216f780.jpg.html)
See.......You're pretty much got it done  Road trip as a shakedown run???
That's what i did with mine. 111 miles non-stopped with only two rest stops and maybe one gas station between. of course i had to drive it 1320 miles the next week....
Welp, it drives. Clutch starts to engage about 1-1.5" off the floor. Feels right and feels good. And the best of all, it friggin moves! Lol
Good Job Clayton :D
Now for that road trip................
Yeah tags and insurance come first and im flat broke lol
A very small update. I did some work to the fuel cell. Growing the gumption to cut a hole in the trunk floor still.. Ive got to round up come steel to brace it in so it will sit level with the rest of the floor in the trunk. Baby steps.
(http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b150/Tcj429/0605170508_zpsiqnjqqbo.jpg) (http://s18.photobucket.com/user/Tcj429/media/0605170508_zpsiqnjqqbo.jpg.html)
Baby steps is right. I just work one piece at a time. Heck, I remember back when you convinced me to do the 5 speed swap. LOL. Time flies.
Time sure does fly. I remember telling you to do it do it do it lol.
With the house now things have slowed considerably, But my work lets me get away with bringing in " government work" and going to town on random pieces. like tig'n some aluminum angle on a fuel cell lol
So, I did a thing.

My brother bought a 95gt parts car while he was down in South Carolina with the intent of turning it into a race car and I made the joke if you ever decide to get rid of it I want everything that makes it roll. This was almost a year ago, and he texts me last month saying hes buying a 04 mustang thats a better start for him and that I needed to make a list of what I needed.
SCORE! Make it even better, it all came to me at half the cost of renting a Uhaul trailer
I got even luckier, Pulled the pan off last night to check the gear ratio and it has 4.10's
And on a side note, one of these days I'll make a new thread on this project with my pictures since photobucket decided that they needed to make money off their 10+ year free service
Thats all for now, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I got 3/4 corners done. I ran out of time, hit a few minor snags but all in all a good day. You can see my subframe connectors doing their jobs very well and my kmember in a few pics. Mind you this car hasnt been on the street for almost 7 years but its getting closer.
I have to still buy new rear calipers, but they'll work for now. (one of the boots is torn) and the pads and rotors need replaced as well the fronts still have a lot of life left in them but as things go on this project, its all going to be new.
Looking good there Clayton
Thanks John its definitely been a slow going build. Like Johnny Cash said, one piece at a time. All four corners are 5-lug now I just have to move my line lock and redo a couple brake lines then bleed the brakes then I should be good to go.
and all I got to say is...

So i only tried those py flaring tools once, then I bought this: http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-on-car-flaring-tool-for-3-16-tubing.html (http://"http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-on-car-flaring-tool-for-3-16-tubing.html")
And its glorious. $40, compact. Good results. Easier to use. BUT it ONLY handles 3/16in line. which is what most cars use anyways.
wow man. cant believe you still have this thing. keep at it. my 84 has been on jackstands for a year now. spring is going to be fun with the 6.0L
Yeah I still got her. Shes been in the garage since 2011 slowly but surely things keep getting in the way of progress but I keep chipping away at it.
Small update! I traded my 95 gt spindles off for some 03 cobra spindles.
I'm still alive! Its still very ugly and has been sitting for a couple more years. A lot has happened in the past 5 years that has kept me away from working on the old girl. But this year is going to be different. I'm hunting for another to swap all my goodies into. I need a redo and to start from scratch.
Slowly changing stuff out I bought years ago that was wrong. When I bought my bbk c/c plates I thought they fit like but made them work.. Well lesson learned there. I ordered the MM ones and viola. Next is the steering shaft then bumpsteer kit. It's taken me 7 years to finally make some real headway
And so it begins.
