Title: 2011 Junkyard finds
Post by: rodsterh on November 27, 2010, 09:07:48 PM
OK, so I'm a bit early.  :hick:

Posts like this make me optimistic although for the most part I think the days of plentiful 83-88 junkyard parts are gone.

For me the good Tbird/Cougar stuff is only existent when I am not looking for something anymore, like months later when the local yards are full of like cars again.

Feel free to post anything interesting you find here.

After months of looking for stuff at the local Pull-A-Part, they eventually take away the stripped cars for metal recycling after about three months of yard life. Usually if I wait a few more months, more cars go out of service and get sold to the yard for s and then there is a whole new batch of cars to pull parts from. I tell you though the most plentiful Birds and Cats right now are the 1989-97 models. I really need to take another nice day off and see if there is anything "new" or useful to be found in the yards. I just never know when I may run up on a good Turbo nose panel that is not destroyed. I really do not need any cosmetic parts right now though I am considering upgrading to good sport buckets if I can find them.

the snow has fallen here in the northern wasteland, sadly the pick n pull here is looking rather bleak. the closest they can get me is a 90s cougar with a v6. still keeping my hopes up for a tc hood. :)

That T Bird was in good shape. Most of the T birds and Cougars i see in the yards here are rotted to nothing or squished from unnatural causes.

I'm gonna make a request here, since I cannot find any parts in the yards in my state or the state above me. If anybody comes across an Mark VII's in the yard, please post in here, I am having a terrible time finding ANYTHING for the VII.

I just got an Explorer upper and lower with rails and injectors (I'll polish the upper),and a "custom" GT-40 Tubular intake (upper/lower) that was opened up to 70mm with a matching t-body spacer. The upper has the finned area removed and replaced with new non-fined aluminum. When it gets here I'm going to smooth the welds and polish the ends like I did on my GT-40 a short while ago.It actually looks awesome. More when it gets here. I got a great deal on them both. They'll support the Sport with the funds they bring in.

Got back from an emergency run to the 'yard.
To my surprise there is several T-Birds in there right now, I took pics of all of them~Coming soon, I gotta deal with the Volvo first.

As I recall there was:
1x 84 FILA 5.0 (Beat to hell)
1x 86 3.8
3x 5.0 87-88's.
1x early 60's T-Bird!!!

Got 2 Trip minders + Odd Dash piece (Out of the same car... 84 Fila)
And a shifter plate, But no non-od shifters. :(
And the tougher looking GMC Safari Grill for the Asro Van, LOL.

Just got home from the junkyard.  I went to get a jack for my F150 but couldnt resist walking through the Cougar/Tbird aisles.  I hadn't been there for quite a while and was expecting the worse.  Alot of the cars that were there last time were gone (sorry guys who wanted parts) BUT there is a fresh batch of even more cars!  I picked up a couple of Tripminders.  Here is the cars, all 16 of them...

Wow. How big is that couch?? :hick:  Now we know where all of the good parts cars are!  Looks like they are sitting on concrete too? That's just too good to be true.

Let us know if you get back there, I'm sure you could go with a list of things to check out.

Thanks (I guess :D) for the pictures.

can you get all the chrome fender trim from one of those cats? {preferably the black one if its all in better shape}. Oh and while you're at it if you come across a 85-88 car with a console and its got a switch plate with just power mirrors and power windows, I'll take that too.

hey btw you guys should grab up those license plate brackets. They seem to be hard to find. People need them on here from time to time.

geez you know now that I think about it... my wife's grandparents live up in Henderson. I might just have to take a weekend up there and come rape your yard for parts.:D

Don't forget the TC Hood Scoops (on the roof) and the Horn Button.

And could you see if any of them have a NON-OD Auto Floor Shifter Please?

I need to take a ride to my local jy to see what they got now. The last time I was there which was a couple months ago they had crushed most of the fox Birds they had including an 87-88 Cougar I'd been getting parts from. It's shame because there was a ton of good parts left on these cars. They did get an 87 Bird in and I was the first to get to it, even the yard workers didn't have a chance to do thier thing. I got a nice set of taillights and some other parts from it. I also got a like new Kenwood cd head unit for my Bird, I even found the warrenty papers in the trunk.

I was looking through some pics today and I totally forgot to post these.  This is the interior of the blue TC in my last set of pics but it has seats like I have never seen in a TC before.  They are not a sport style seat and made of some leather like material.

None of the cars had a trunk mat.  I always check on that for you.  I'm not sure when I will be out that way next, but I will grab one of those clusters for you if I'm in the area soon.  Both the Sport and the XR7 still had them.

How do the Electros look on the Red Heritage~Yellow, Foggy?
And you should grab the lil triangle shaped mirror bolt down covers if they arent broken (Vent window exclusive and members usually need them). Also the "Heritage" passenger side dash emblem (It's just stickied on).
Side note: Hard to tell from pic~But is that a Tripminder in the red Heritage? If so, Might want to snag that also. ;)

wow...rust free and the Cougar still has the hubcaps! Looks like the red 83-84 was a Heritage.  I'd love to see that much nice stuff around here again. Thanks for the pics. I'd be interested in an original 83 style wheel in case you come across one. Based on the condition of the cars in the pictures the wheels are probably straight and true!

I thought the white Cougar was an XR7 too because of the gauges and seats but it didn't have the sport steering wheel and it had the lower trim level door panels too.  The grille was chrome too and I thought XR7s had body colored grilles.

The yellow car was horrible.  Its interior was spray painted white in a very sloppy manner.

Might be interested in the cluster from the white Cougar, if they don't want too much.  It does look like it used to say Cougar XR7 on the decklid.
Title: 2011 Junkyard finds
Post by: Loaded87IROC on November 29, 2011, 04:17:11 AM
I don't plan on going back to the junkyard with the white Cougar.  Its just too far (60+ mile round trip) to justify the trip for the 1 fox car they have.  The first time I went there they had at least 10.  I just wanted to go back there one more time before we move away from the land of rust free junk cars, lol.  I do plan on going to the closer yard one more time before moving and last time I was there there was 2 V8 buttstuffog clusters (pics on page 4 of this thread.)  I think they charge 30-35 bucks for a cluster.

I didn't think they made XR7s in 83.  They wouldn't have the stand up hood ornament, but there is the yellow 84 and a white 85-86 with intact header panels.  I don't know how much they charge for body parts but it would probably get pretty expensive after shipping.  I can check next time I am in that area if you want.

There hasn't been a Fox in the yard here in 6 or 7 months. I think the rust monster finally got the last of the beater ones......

I thought the white Cougar was an XR7 too because of the gauges and seats but it didn't have the sport steering wheel and it had the lower trim level door panels too.

It's an '88 XR-7 for sure; note the body-color trim and mirrors. At some point during production of the '88 XR-7, they no longer received the two-spoke sport steering wheel. Rather, they got the leather-wrapped wheel. Those door panels came on the XR-7s.

My '88 XR-7 had the leather-wrapped wheel, which lasted for about 20 minutes after I bought the car. I quickly installed the sport wheel.

Saw these two today , but I was on a severe time constraint so I was only able to give them a quick once over 87 or TC 88 and an 87 20th anniversary cougar .

Now for the disappointing news, I am going out of town next friday and will be gone for the rest of the month, So any parts scavenging will not be until the first week in January :(

about six months ago i came across a 84 cougar that i snagged the front bumper cover and headlight bezzles off of for my car. After i got these parts i saw the perfect uncracked windshield i went for it but sadly the windshield prevailed and i am stuck with my cracked garbage lol.

Well if they're still there when you get back, I might need you to grab the inner markers for me. If they're not all heat cracked and destroyed that is....
