Title: -84 Cougar
Post by: sebbass on July 23, 2010, 06:58:25 PM
Hi.. I really want to have a cougar.. however I live in Sweden so there is not too many of them here.. not 80´s cougars atleast.
But there is an ad out for a ´84
I can´t post urls buts here it is

http :// www blocket.se /stockholm/Mercury_Cougar_27477450.htm?ca=11&w=3

but it is "kinda" ugly? What colour is that? Guess either Light Wheat or Wheat. And whats up with that yellow interior. And the seats (is it leather?), can anyone tell me what options was selected for that car, and is it GS or LS? I doubt the seller knows. If possible.
What do you guys think....should I go for it?
its 17000SEK = aprox. 2323$

Nice car. If I wanted a Cougar, and they were super rare where I came from, and this one showed up,I'd grab it.Nice looking car from what I can see.Not a color you see often inside or out. Even has a console. Sweet. Looks like a really nice ride....from what the pics show.

Unless you really, really want an 80's Cougar I'd stay away from it at that price. In the last photo it looks like the bottom of the door and the rocker panel are rusted out. You can also see where some poor bodywork and paint was done to the front wheel opening.

Wow...first of all, thanks for finding the message board. Welcome!

Here is the full link: http://www.blocket.se/stockholm/Mercury_Cougar_27477450.htm?ca=11&w=3

That is a 1984 Cougar GS, Light Wheat with Wheat cloth interior. Looks to have the standard preferred equipment package (PEP): cruise, tilt wheel, probably air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, power driver's seat, rear defroster. Doesn't look like it's been abused too much although I do see indications of rust on the bottom of the door. It's probably a 3.8 V6 car.

As for the color...the interior color was one year only, and I think you can see why! It's not terribly attractive although once you're in a car with that interior, it's not so bad. The exterior is really not too bad in person either; it's more of a cream color than yellow.

It looks like everything is there, in decent shape, complete and hopefully in working order. As difficult as it is to find a Cougar in Sweden, that might be your only hope if you want one. We can probably help with parts if you would need them.

If it were me, I'd look at it and see if they'd take a little less because of the rust. But otherwise you will probably regret it if you DON'T go see it, at least. Just my opinion. ;)

I can't tell if the bottom of the doors are rusty,or,if it's road  that's been thrown up there. With that yellow color,it's hard to tell.Looks pretty decent to me though.

Okay, well I guess the rust and the bad paint work are the only cons so far... I could of course fix this. I have some doubts but I do have a feeling that this car will be mine soon. I´ve asked her some questions...
Im just gonna get rid of my BMW.

I see that they didn't get a pic of the other door... if that's the only major rust problem on the car, I say grab it if you really want it. the doors can be repaired with universal door bottoms and bends. I actually like the colors of that car.
Do you have any metal working or welding skills?

Get it, I have a friend in Sweden who I met thru owning T-Birds and I have sent him parts when he's needed them. Your already ahead of the game if you get it since you have found this site. There are tons of helpful people on this site and more often than not any thing you need to do, someone here will have already experienced.

I have pretty much that same car, except an 83. Mine has the 302, AC, rear defrost, cruise and just about nothing else.

It has been a very good car to me. I delivered pizza in it for 3 years. I recently moved, using it to pull a flatbed trailer, loaded heavy, 20+ trips back and fourth. I drove it on a 3000 mile vacation. I have done a lot with that old car, and it shows. These pics are when I bought it. It's waaay rustier now!

If I were you, I would buy that car. Like was mentioned, try to haggle on the price though. Don't let the color bother you. That car is rare enough over there, people will stare no matter what color it is.

The official paint code is 9P "Desert Tan". But funny you should call it butterscotch, that's it's nickname. "I'm takin' butterscotch to the store". Sometimes I call it "butter" for short.

Somethings look funny about the roof just above the trim on the rear windshield~Primer? + missing the trim or just black?
