Title: New Taillights Coming For My Pony
Post by: Watchdevil on April 20, 2010, 01:01:37 AM
I have neglected my Pony so long while I have been working on the Bird so I decided it was time for a new gift for the Pony. And what a perfect gift I found...

2010 styled taillamps made to fit the 2005-09 Mustang!

Did you get these already? Are they LED? Does it have 2 reverse lights per side or is one of those a dummy?

Thanks,

Ken

I ordered them. They should be here in a couple of days.

One of the reverse lights is a dummy, but I intend to remedy that. They do not have LED's so if you like that it's just a matter of using the usual LED bulbs instead of the  incadescent ones.

These taillamps are also offered in a smoked set too!

Thanks for the info-remember if you add an additional reverse light to the extra space make sure you put vents in it like the other bulbs have.

I am glad u said that because I forgot all about that. I suppose I will have to drill a small hole hear the top back of that section and just run a small piece of hose that will point downward sealed around the opening with a little bit of silicone.

The thing I did notice about that section is that the inside of that section is significantly larger than the back-up section in depth which would indeed allow someone to put an amber turn signal bulb in it where they are sold in markets that require amber turn signals.

Oh yeah it's kinda fun to have a few Mustang buddies over here on this forum!

Got my new taillamps today! They are purdy and I love the details inside the lenses. I think I made a good choice! Pictures later when I can take them in the daylight!

I have not wired up the dummy backup lamp sections to be functional yet. I was too excited and wanted to get them on. That is something I can do later when I have more time. It's so easy to remove these so I might as well enjoy them as is for a while.

Now you need to add the sequential lights like the new ones have.I like these lights, and I'm also one of the very few people that likes the rear of the new Stang.

yeah do the sequential blinkers. I might be trading my 2009 Mazdaspeed3 in for a 2011 Mustang GT just to get those lights (LOL). Well I might as long as the Stang pulls as hard as my MS3 does

Ya know Vinnie, I have mixed feelings about the back of the 2010 Mustang. Some of the shapes I am not keen on like the kinked ends and the jagged shape of the bottom of the taillamps. I am more used to it now than I was when I first seen it. I also am not fond of the big black diaper on the bottom of the rear bumper. What I do like is the jewel like detailing of the taillamp lens and reflector housing and how they seperate the three sections more than just having thin dividing vertical lines. If you have ever noticed, the back-up lamps suggest the thin black inserts between the vertical bars on the taillamp bezels of the original 64 1/2-66 Mustangs.

Anyway, I have had the sequential action on my Mustang for quite a while now. It was one of my first must haves. I always wanted them back when I had my 94 and 99 Mustangs but never went out of my way to afford them. I simply swapped the inner and center bulb sockets so that the outer and inner sections flashed and lit up with the brake lamps. Later I went in and wired the center sections exclusively so that they lit up only when the brakes were applied by tying it into the third brake lamp circuit.

When I first got my 08 Mustang I simply swapped the inner and center bulb sockets and a while later I got the sequential kit.

It is really hard for me to capture just the inner and center lit up only during the sequence as the flash sequence beats the multiple camera frame capture feature.

Nice!

You remember that song on Sesame Street?  "One of these things is not like the other.  One of these things just doesn't belong..."

That's what I thought of when I saw the two Fords in your driveway with that red go-kart next to them.  :D

Oh you are so right... That Yaris does not belong and it was not my decision for that thing to be in the driveway. Since I am hitched to a flight attendant, it is what we call an airport car which sits in the parking lot there much of the time. Does a lot of good hauling for such a small car. If the Ford Fiesta was on the market when that car came out we would be Ford all the way. Before that Yaris, we had a 1997 VW GTI which was junk... It would be a great car if it was not full of defective demons. It had to go!

Funny thing is we both had various Thunderbirds way before we knew each other.

We both love Thunderbirds so much that if Ford offered a brand new one in the spirit of our old four seat models we might be at the dealership in a split second... that is if they built the right one... The latest roadsters are nice but not practical.

Truthfully, the latest Mustang is pretty much the essence of the original four seat Thunderbirds and was inspired by it. If it were not for the fact there was a market for large Tbirds back in the 1960's, the Mustang likely would have become another Thunderbird. History books explain from the design and engineering point of view that the Mustang is originally what they really wanted the Tbird to be back in 1958, but until the small block V8 was developed and released a few years later, there was no way to scale such a car down around the availaible V8's at the time and have it be small as they wanted it to be.

With all the downsizing of cars, the market has merged the Mustang and Tbird into what is really the same package, so modern marketing dictates that the Mustang is the most popular legend to keep around as a must have for Ford to exist while the last Thunderbird just floundered around as a limited production rich man's toy with two less seats. So the Mustang remains true to the very successful 1958 Tbird package with four seats and it remains to have the most popular convertible today while the modern fastback Mustangs continue the legend of the classic ponies of the 1960's.

Had to modify the lamp housing to accept extra sockets and bulbs in the outer faux back-up sections so both of them would light up. Only the inner ones were manufactured to accept the bulb and socket for back-ups...

I like everything about your idea to change out the taillights and to make both reverse lights functional.

Thumbs up!

Oh I just had to reply again tonight! The other half traded the Yaris today and bought a new 2010 Ford Fusion SE in black metallic today while I was at work. So now all the cars belong! Only problem is programming the SNYC has been whipping our asses! Back to the dealership tomorrow so we it can get it to pair the bluetooth to stream audio. I have never seen such a complicated thing to program and all the instructions suck!

Did she tell you she was going to do that or was it just a surprise?  It's cool that she got a new Fusion, which is a hell of a lot more car than that little Yaris was, but I would be seriously upset if my wife bought a car without telling me about it!  LOL

That Sync must have a steep learning curve if you, the guy that swapped a Mustang dash into his Tbird and called it easy, are having trouble learning to set it up!

Congratulations on the new car though.  Pics!

It's a surprise but I cannot complain... After all it is a Ford!

I'm posting pics in a new thread!
