Title: proper introduction
Post by: zerokool on March 20, 2010, 07:37:57 PM
Well, here's my first thunderbird, and ford for that matter, that I just recently purchased. She's in pretty decent shape for her age. Just some nickle and dime stuff here and there and an inop ac.

...with my faster ride....

So, I'll also start off with asking a couple questions for you folks. I found this in the trunk just lying around. Didn't know it was there when I bought it. Any clue what it is and/or does?

and what is this part i have disconnected?

Thanks!

Welcome! Wheels look great on that 'Bird.

To answer your questions:
First part is a factory amplifier for the stereo system.
Second part is the (charcoal) cannister purge valve solenoid.

cool thanks. Doesn't look like i'll be needing either. I like the wheels too, but I'm thinking of going with something different in the future, so I may end up selling em

First off, thanks to everyone. About me and the car....I went looking for a cheap car to pay cash for to get out of a car payment since I'll most likely be losing my job in August. I never really went looking for a thunderbird. I went looking for something extremely cheap that would at least semi-suit my personality while making me happy, which is when I stumbled along this little gem. As far as aftermarket mods go, just the wheels. Someone used to have a sound system in it though. There's an amp wire and rca cables in the trunk. The radio is either broke or unplugged. I haven't messed with that yet. As far as what I'd like to do with it...5 lug swap, 03 cobra wheels with 10.5 in the back, fix the a/c, 15% (hot in florida) tint, dye the interior black or charcoal or do a combination of one of those colors with the red, a dominator hood, fresh paint and body work, a stroked 342 I've been messing around building on crane cams software and estimates 531hp and 500tq, and maybe a t5 swap. If that falls through, I'll just ride on it like it is for a good while till I get back on my feet well, then do a 460 swap and tub the rear and do a prostreet setup. I like the car a little more every day. What disappoints me is that, compared to the mustang, my car is like...say...a 4 door hyundai genesis while the mustang is the 2 door. They're almost the same car but not quite. It's awesome that engine, drive train, and suspension swaps between the too. I just don't get why at least a company that fox body reproduction nos parts wouldn't do at least some door panels. Haha I even called around the local junk yards down here and no one has any thunderbirds at all. NONE. Go figure. I have found the headlights on ebay and I saw a plastic dash cap somewhere and that's pretty much it.

lately, parts are becoming very scarce I noticed, unless someone is parting a car. it took me a year to find the parts I needed, but I needed everything except for an interior. post up an add for what your looking for, you may be surprised what you will find.

Thankfully, of thunderbird specific parts, the only things broken is the dash, door panels grab handles (which I can probably rig back up) the hood release handle, and the driver side door lock button. That's it really. So I guess I got pretty lucky

the pull handles on top? I may have a pair in red and the lock buttons.

I'm pretty sure I can pick up a universal pair at auto zone. It's the door panel that's been stripped where they go. I haven't looked too much into it. I need to though. Kinda a pita to close the door with the window up

hahahaha why wouldn't a 342 be a good idea? I did use my same specs on the software using a 327. I turned out a little more hp but a little less tq

I mean the T5, they are a fairly weak tranny, in high HP engines. LOL
