my 95 cougars trip meter and odometer stopped working a while ago so i replaced the gauge with one i had picked up at pick n pull but still no luck.the speedo still works but they wont.is there a sensor at the tranny that went bad that i can replace or is it in the tranny.thanks

The Speed sender on the trans is easy to swap (just did it this weekend. It sticks out the tailhousing on the driver side. Above and behind the transmission crossmember. Its held in by a large clip and one 10mm or 11mm bolt. Just un-clip the connector, unbolt, and remove.

turns out it was a gear issue after all.found a site that actually machines stronger gears that aren't brittle.a little pricey but what isn't these days.here's the site if anyone has the same issue.http://www.speedometergears.com/
