So I've noticed this pretty much since day one of owning my '87 Vic winter car. It naturally has the same sequence on the shift indicator, PRN(D)D1. However, moving the lever to "1" holds 2nd gear *no matter what*. I was shocked to find this out. Even from a stop, it will stay in 2nd. I guess this would be a way to keep traction in the winter taking off from a stop (it does of course help a little)...but my friend drives an '89 Grand Marq and "1" indeed holds 1st gear as my cougar does, and then of course 2nd if you do that trick.
....It's gotta have a different valvebody, no? Anyone know of other examples of this happening with an AOD? An option maybe? I keep forgetting the name of the valve the shift lever moves, the Baumann kit manual tells that all but I forget where that went. Maybe all you would need is a different valve to direct fluid differently through the passages it comes directly into contact with seeing as you can do that hold 2nd trick.
The AOD's mated to the Police 351's had a valve body that started and held the trans in second if you dropped the shifter all the way down. The quadrant read PRN(D)D2 or even "S". Possiibly one of those got swapped in somewhere along the line.
Oooookay. Interesting! Wonder why those did that. Guess it's time to be an a-hole and talk my car up like it's AMAZING because "its got a COP tranny" :rollin:
Fix the cigarette lighter.
Oh it'll be a Bluesmobile alright. Not goin ANYwhere anytime soon...but an EFI 460 is 100% goin in there at some point.
