This is my proposed set-up. From what I've read (and that's quite some searching), I know the '97 axles in the Fox Stang 8.8 will bring my rear track width back to normal for an '88 Tbird.
The part I'm having some confusion with is whether 10" drums (stock Sport) will work in this case, albeit drilled for 5 lug. I can't find concrete results to corroborate/disprove this. According to Jim Miller's sticky, the -to- length will be moved back to 61", but, not 100% sure that the drum will have the correct fit in regards to the brakes, backing plate, etc.
Yes, I did search, several times. (I also know it's probably easier to swap to a TC rear, or swap the '97 Stang brakes over, or something..but...rather try the drum method first)
Many thanks!
You will need NON 86-88 Tbird 7.5 rear drums to make this work.
This might help. http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=16043
Thanks guys
Paul, that link you posted...in that thread, the link in THAT post was dead, but from reading through the thread I think (if I understand correctly..?) that I can use ranger axles with the drums, brakes and etc. in my Fox 8.8, or did I misunderstand that?
Would the '98+ Ranger drums be what I'd need to use? Or will I need the axles as well?
If or when I get this figured out, I'll take some pics and make it a how-to thing
I just went there within the past month and the site was up........Seems he's started to capitalize on the info there. It's now being sold in booklet form to the tune of $15......

I've been in the habit of screen-capturing things I find pertinent. Unfortunately, I never actually did that one......
It would APPEAR that the '98 Ranger axles would work.....
*Edit*
Seems he moved everything around and some of the info is still available online.

Just keep hitting "next page"
Found this too: http://www.sn95brakes.com/5lug.php
I think this thread should be moved over to the braking sub-forum...so mods, if you please? :D
Ok, my options are:
A. get 98+ 10" ranger drums, backing plates, brakes, etc, and use that setup.
B. swap in a TC 8.8, convert to 5 lug using the axles I already have, and use SN95 rear brake rotors, calipers etc.
C. Just get the 10" drums I now have welded and redrilled for 5 lug.
My issue with that route is what about if I (ever) need new drums. The cost of the modification all over again.
Personally, I don't care if it's drum or disc, but I do need to swap master cylinder and booster, (firewall adjustable clutch cable, no room) and there's a TC 8.8 that a member here has mentioned to me that's not too far away.
Either of the first 2 options' cost outlay will be fairly close.
I'm looking for more reliability than out and out performance. If I can get both though, then I'd pay a little more for that.
The third option...I'll also need to enlarge the hub hole on the stock 'Bird drums to accept the SN95 axle.
Thoughts? Opinions?
I used the drums on my TC differential, and sold the discs from my extra diff from a TC.I don't mind them either.
