Title: Full Digital Cluster Tach Relocation?
Post by: jpc647 on December 17, 2009, 03:05:24 PM
I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. I was curious is anyone had ever tried to make the digital tachometer work outside of the instrument cluster, like mounting it somewhere on the car. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard, I just wouldn't know how to go about it.

It can't need a whole lot to operate, just the pickup from the distributor and a power supply. I would think. Anyone know? Tried it? Success or fail?

isn't it a part of a multi-function cluster.

I think it could work.I know it can be removed as a unit from the cluster.I would think you'd need to know which contacts are what on the circuit strip.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. I read about it somewhere, that someone was trying it but I can't find where. I've been looking for a couple of days now.

i was looking at this when you first posted it and thought about doing some sort of write up then decided it would be best done by the do'er.

so..looks like its your puppy:D
I wouldnt mind helping though, the wiring part is generally something most people need a doctors second opinion on.

Intersting. This might have to be a winter, indoor project for me. With the lack of any sufficient heat in the garage and the 20 degree temps, its too cold to work on anything.

Can't do anything like that. My neighbor pretty much did what you said a couple of years ago and the town saw it and fined him up the wazoo. Even woodstoves in garages are highly regulated... Its pretty hard.

thats too bad you have to live like that.  Mass has went dont the tubes over the years. I was in a town in FL and the law stated so much about noise pollution that even kids playing in the yard could cause reason for a neighbor to call the police.

I Wash DC, all these houses built with fire places are pointless.  People are regulated as to when they can light them up.  Go figure! you pay for a house in that area and still you are not free to do as you like on your own property.
