Title: changing wheels
Post by: 50tbrd88 on November 23, 2009, 03:38:30 PM
This winter I want to change it up and get away from the 17x9 Cobra R's.  I want to go to a 17x8 chrome wheel.

I'm torn between two wheels:

1.) swapping to 5 lug and get some chrome Bullitts
2.) keep it 4 lug and go with some chrome '93 Cobra wheels

What do you guys think would look best on my car?

Yeah the reason I like those is that they kinda go with the era of the car a little better.  It needs to retain a little of its 1980's-ness.  I miss my original 14" 8-hole wheels...it would be a dream come true if somebody made a replica in a 17x8 or even 16x8!!

Who else has an opinion on this?

5 lug

Think about the future. Change your mind years down the road, or whatever 5 lug is cheap and easier to find

Point taken.  The only problem with 5 lug is the expense of changing it over the right way...I am thinking of having everything (axles and rotors) re-drilled, though.  Are there any opinions on this?

It can actually be done fairly cheap if you shop around. Just read over on CoolCats and make a list of what you want and need and start piecing it together.

I'm really leaning towards the Bullitts...

The car has basically brand new rotors front and rear...so if I go 5 lug, those beotches are gettin redrilled for sure.  So if I'm drilling everything else, might as well do the axles too.  There is a very good local machine shop that would probably do this for me for cheap.

Does anyone know if there are any issues with the Bullitt wheel and a stock fox body 11" rotor?  I think I read somewhere that the center cap won't fit?  Any truth to this?

'93 Cobra, but that's what I was going to go with until I got the Snowflakes.

center cap is an issue with mark7 5-lug setups.

The more research I do, the more it looks like I won't be able to use my fox mustang brake setup with bullitts.  I think you have to change to SN95 brakes....it.
