You know, that is teasing us when you get all excited about a new TC and then don't have any pics to back it up. Don't you even have any from when you looked at it, or something??

An automatic car with no motor? What's left of somebody's Ranger donor car? Either way, the body looks pretty clean. Should be a great project car.

P.S. Thanks for the pics! :D

the engine is in my TC, this was a buddies car but he is moving to alabama and cant afford to take it along so he gave it to me.  he bought it with no tranny.  the body is as straight as you can expect for a 21 year old car and is rust free as far as I have seen.  trying to work out a few electrical problems and then we will get started with the engine and transmission. Enjoy :)

I understand.I have a nice fresh engine and differential in the garage (no room for the car in there),waiting for me.Too cold right now.Sooooo,I am patiently waiting.Hopefully soon.Just be patient, continue to gather the little bits and pieces you need and stay busy doing that.Like down here in southern Oklahoma, our winter isn't that long, and a few warmer days are still a possibility for us.

Oh,post some pics of the work you've done.

I do have a few relay questions. in the pic above there is a wire that runs next to the passenger strut tower what does this go to so I know what relay to get?  and also next to the computer there is another relay what is it? Thanks in advance

as far as the title goes for this thing I'm gonna have to contact an attorney to go through the court and have the judge award the car to me. I guess if I want to save this thing bad enough I'll do what it takes to do so. does anyone have any ideas on the relays asked about above? Thanks

The one next to the eec *may* be the fuel pump relay...they're in close proximity to each other...

Any progress is good :D

The fuel pump relay is in the trunk between the inner rear fender and structual support....under the package shelf area.

yeah the fuel pump relay was already with the harness and is installed in the trunk. I think this is where Jcassity and one of his helpful posts is needed :D

Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: 88turbo on December 10, 2009, 11:23:51 AM
new question, are relays the same internally? like if I were to use my old antilock relay for the A/C or EEC would it work?
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: Beau on December 10, 2009, 11:28:39 AM
Well, I had the wrong one in the connector for the eec....and the car wouldn't start :hick:...

BUT, the relay itself was missing a terminal that the connector had, so as long as they have the same terminals I'd *guess* they'd work.

If you don't have the one you need, text me a pic of the connector, and I'll send you one..I have several here ;)

Post by: 88turbo on February 20, 2010, 02:01:59 PM
made alittle more progress, nothing too drastic but I installed the GT40 intake.  now here's my little issue, the front right intake bolt was snapped off in the head when I acquired them and it happens to be the bolt needed for the alternator brace. Is the brace really needed?  or can I cut the bolt I have and use it as an anchor pin?  I really dont have very many options seeing as removing the bolt would be near impossible with the angle it sits in the head.
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: Cougar8775 on February 20, 2010, 02:23:00 PM
do you plan on removing the head? if so it would make it easier to remove the bolt. But i does it seal up ok with that broken off in there if so i wouldn't worry bout it. just use it as an anchor for whatever you need. But what brace are you talking bout? i know on the sc motors they had a brace from the water pump to the engine acc bracket but i removed that cuz it just got in the way. and i havent had any issues with it gone.
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: 88turbo on February 20, 2010, 02:45:43 PM
the brace I am talking about is on a 5.0 goes from said intake bolt to the back of the alternator bracket.

What does the little bracket have to do with the coolant tubes. The Stang 5.0 and Bird 5.0 share the same coolant tubes on the intake if I remember correctly.Glad to hear the project is moving along well.I can't say anything about the spoiler.I'm not a fan of them on '87/'88 Birds.I'm partial to the natural look. How's it going removing the rear window tint.I just finished my back window the other day when I was replacing the package shelf. Not too bad of a job.I used 0000 steel wool after I peeled off what i could. It erases it easily without damage to anything.

I havent been doing anything with the tint, for some reason the tubes interfered with the bracket I will see if it can be used once I get the tubes tightened down into place.  the spoiler came from a geo storm and is stamped Aeroform of Kansas City, MO

starting to stress alittle about this build.  engine is mostly assembled but waiting on funds for a 1/2" intake spacer.  decided to try to get the engine to crank over by the key and no go.. :(  when I turn the key to the start position I hear a clicking of a relay coming from what sounds to be in the package tray and the lights in the dash dim but no crank.  if I cant figure out these issues the car will be up for grabs :(

I'll pull the battery from the cougar and see what happens and report back.

edit, does the fuel pump have to be hooked up for the engine to crank? another thing I have no way of hooking up the neutral safety switch which is probably the cause.... :(

been a while since I have updated on this project, engine in, wired and has spark but for some reason the fuel pump wont prime with the key on but will prime in the start position. also I am not getting fuel pressure at the rail, could this be a bad FPR?
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: vinnietbird on September 10, 2011, 06:56:02 PM
Are you sure the pump is good?
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: 88turbo on September 10, 2011, 07:38:24 PM
if the pump runs its good right? I mean it was when it was in the Black TC  and that car ran.
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: 88turbo on September 11, 2011, 02:49:49 PM
could it be possible that I installed the fuel lines in reverse when I put the ends on?  or would that even really matter?  I am at a loss here the pump does pull fuel from the tank but I do not get pressure at the rail.
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: vinnietbird on September 11, 2011, 02:55:56 PM
You do get fuel at the rail, right? Maybe a bad filter. I have an FPR (factory chrome piece in nice shape) you can have if you need it.
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: Beau on September 11, 2011, 04:35:55 PM
I think the fuel lines are different sizes, at the connectors. I KNOW they are at the engine, and i'm rather certain they are at the tank, as well.

A bad fpr might cause the engine to run rough, but shouldn't keep it from running. But I may be wrong..
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: vinnietbird on September 11, 2011, 05:29:16 PM
I'm no pro on this, but if the FPR was bad, it seems like it would dump gas in way too much.No pressure at the line has got me to thinking bad filter or bad pump.
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: Beau on September 11, 2011, 05:48:56 PM
Graham texted me, said he found a kink in the fuel line, but now has good pressure, but still no start...

The injectors are grounded through the EEC, and when that ground is supplied, that's when they spray fuel, correct?
Title: Project thunderstruck! Update 3-11-13
Post by: 88turbo on September 11, 2011, 08:21:02 PM
I can get the engine to fire on starting fluid and I have good fuel pressure,  now I am to the point where I am thinking the ecu is bad. vinnie do you warranty your parts?!?!?  lol

You're a mass air setup on that car, right?

347FTW!!!! (would be nice, I wish I had one)

It looks like the engine in my Thunderbird, except I painted the timing cover Ford blue as well.

I noticed you're running the Explorer upper with the stock HO valve covers. Did you have to use a spacer or did it clear fine? I'm going to stick an Explorer intake on my Mark and I was wondering if I needed a spacer to clear the stock HO valve covers. The Thunderbird runs FRPP ribbed EFI Cobra valve covers and they are taller than stock so I had to run a 1/2" intake spacer to clear them.
