can anyone guess what I'm getting tomorrow? :D
AC/DC cd?
DNA testing?
full body shave?
A thunderbird!!! duh!!!!
no wait , its the new GIRLS GONE WILD!!!!
'79 T-bird with a white exterior and a red interior so you'll be big pimping;)
:rollin: you guys crack me up but thunderbird and red interior is partially right. its not a 79. lol
well its getting late so I will go ahead and let everyone know that I am getting another 88TC in the morning. The TC was an auto car but now has no engine or trans. it has red leather and a moonroof and the exterior color is maroon. pics will come as soon as I get it home. :D
You know, that is teasing us when you get all excited about a new TC and then don't have any pics to back it up. Don't you even have any from when you looked at it, or something??
I might wait till monday to take some pics. :flip:
here are a few pics to start off with.
few more.
Thats about the shape I got my coug in but yours has less dents.
You have your work cut out! Good luck!
An automatic car with no motor? What's left of somebody's Ranger donor car? Either way, the body looks pretty clean. Should be a great project car.
P.S. Thanks for the pics! :D
Nice car, Body looks decent
Is that the new battery relocation area...... LOL...... JK
the engine is in my TC, this was a buddies car but he is moving to alabama and cant afford to take it along so he gave it to me. he bought it with no tranny. the body is as straight as you can expect for a 21 year old car and is rust free as far as I have seen. trying to work out a few electrical problems and then we will get started with the engine and transmission. Enjoy :)
So you gonna make it a runner and keep the silver car, too..?
Wish I could find an engineless TC near me for dirt cheap....:burnout:
Wow, free, that's in my price range! lol. Congrats. I figure a rust free roller is worth at least a grand. Well, in the salt belt, it is. Have fun with it!
I am going to attempt the V8 conversion with this one so I will be needing some help in the future. and yes the silver one is staying a TC
Right on...gonna go with auto, or manny?....
Cool project, keep posting pics.
Lots of potential there with that car! It will take some hard work but it will be worth it!
its still gonna be an AOD car. for now anyways :) thanks for all the kind words I will be posting the progress here.
well I have done alittle more. installed some headlights foglights and a RH turn signal lense and the new floor shifter. enjoy :D
Cool build. That car is ripe for a V-8.
is this what your talking about? :D
Looks like the same thing I'm doing, only bass-ackwards...you're starting with a TC and going V8, i'm adding some TC stuff to mine. :D
I'm not going as far as the abs, ride control, or the other little doodads though
Good to see the lights and shifter helped the cause ;)
Ditto. I am adding TC stuff to my sport.
Nice platform to start with. I like it.
heres alittle progress on the bird. I installed the V8 harness and engine and tranny. more to come as I can afford to do it.
Great work so far. Any progress is good.Keep it up and keep us posted.I'm hoping to start some engine stuff Thursday !!!!
good deal bro, youre off to a good start.
thanks for the kind words guys :D at the rate I'm going it will be running by next summer!!!:toilet:
Why's the EGR and TPS on sideways?
nothing is "on" yet. parts are just sitting in place.
Yeah, It's hard to find a donor 2.3L turbo motor. But if I find a body like that I will make her a T/C again if possible.:burnout:
I'll have an Explorer intake for sale after Thursday !!!!! It'll come with injectors and 65mm throttlebody.Just lettin' you know......hint,hint.
lol vinnie, I cant afford much and I'm sure it wont be cheap :( but if you really want to help me out.... hint hint!
You're going to beat me yet...you've already got the engine in yours! lol
lookin good bro ;)
it might be in but I bet yours will run before mine. I hope not though!!!! lol
It'll be $140.00 shipped in the lower 48.Should be pulled Thursday afternoon..Top to bottom,injectors,t-body,intake.
Wow! You do have a big project going on! You're making great progress keep it up!!!
having an issue with the title and previous owner. and finding the rest of the wiring that I need. getting kinda bummed and losing interest so any halp would be good :(
well its time for an update, I have installed an HO cam, roller lifters and required hardware, pushrods, fuel pump harness, timing chain, and new heatercore. and now its too cold to do much of anything since I am forced to do everything outside :(
I understand.I have a nice fresh engine and differential in the garage (no room for the car in there),waiting for me.Too cold right now.Sooooo,I am patiently waiting.Hopefully soon.Just be patient, continue to gather the little bits and pieces you need and stay busy doing that.Like down here in southern Oklahoma, our winter isn't that long, and a few warmer days are still a possibility for us.
Oh,post some pics of the work you've done.
I do have a few relay questions. in the pic above there is a wire that runs next to the passenger strut tower what does this go to so I know what relay to get? and also next to the computer there is another relay what is it? Thanks in advance
as far as the title goes for this thing I'm gonna have to contact an attorney to go through the court and have the judge award the car to me. I guess if I want to save this thing bad enough I'll do what it takes to do so. does anyone have any ideas on the relays asked about above? Thanks
I was told that the one on the passenger side fender well is for the a/c.The other one,I'm not sure.
The one next to the eec *may* be the fuel pump relay...they're in close proximity to each other...
Any progress is good :D
The fuel pump relay is in the trunk between the inner rear fender and structual support....under the package shelf area.
yeah the fuel pump relay was already with the harness and is installed in the trunk. I think this is where Jcassity and one of his helpful posts is needed :D
You're right..the relay I was referring to is the eec relay...brain fart I guess:punchballs::D
new question, are relays the same internally? like if I were to use my old antilock relay for the A/C or EEC would it work?
Well, I had the wrong one in the connector for the eec....and the car wouldn't start :hick:...
BUT, the relay itself was missing a terminal that the connector had, so as long as they have the same terminals I'd *guess* they'd work.
If you don't have the one you need, text me a pic of the connector, and I'll send you one..I have several here ;)
here are are the pics of the relay plugs you asked for Beau. the top is the EEC relay and the bottom is the AC relay.
about time for another update, I finally got my headlight harness all strung together with the 5.0 alternator harness. and I have found an offroad H-pipe. thats about all I have done for now lol.
Good to see you're still making progress!
lol I havent given up yet. and I will get there one of these days.
Cool, the payoff is well worth it!! I'm ready for some nice weather so I can get started on mine. I just have some minor things to take care of. At least I hope it's only minor!! LOL!!
I got a new trick up my sleave ;) here is a little teaser pic :D
Hey, did you take a pic of mine?
hehehehe no lol
made some progress, installed the GT40P heads, the powered by Vinnietbird valve covers, waterpump, and chrome BBK shorty headers.
Pull the headers, intake and the rest and paint the engine as well.Nice valve covers by the way.You have great taste.
I think I am going to wait till the weather warms up to paint the heads. a bit too cold to to do it in my "shop" (driveway)
I'm hoping this thing will perform as good as its starting to look. I dont have any doubts that it wont ;)
Oooooh..... shiny
Lookin good...can't wait to see/hear the finished product :D
made alittle more progress, nothing too drastic but I installed the GT40 intake. now here's my little issue, the front right intake bolt was snapped off in the head when I acquired them and it happens to be the bolt needed for the alternator brace. Is the brace really needed? or can I cut the bolt I have and use it as an anchor pin? I really dont have very many options seeing as removing the bolt would be near impossible with the angle it sits in the head.
do you plan on removing the head? if so it would make it easier to remove the bolt. But i does it seal up ok with that broken off in there if so i wouldn't worry bout it. just use it as an anchor for whatever you need. But what brace are you talking bout? i know on the sc motors they had a brace from the water pump to the engine acc bracket but i removed that cuz it just got in the way. and i havent had any issues with it gone.
the brace I am talking about is on a 5.0 goes from said intake bolt to the back of the alternator bracket.
I tossed that brace years ago.
ended up having to toss the brace so I can use the mustang coolant tubes, installed the oil sender and extension. and played around with an idea. heres a pic
I like it. :D
any guess as to where it came from? ;)
What does the little bracket have to do with the coolant tubes. The Stang 5.0 and Bird 5.0 share the same coolant tubes on the intake if I remember correctly.Glad to hear the project is moving along well.I can't say anything about the spoiler.I'm not a fan of them on '87/'88 Birds.I'm partial to the natural look. How's it going removing the rear window tint.I just finished my back window the other day when I was replacing the package shelf. Not too bad of a job.I used 0000 steel wool after I peeled off what i could. It erases it easily without damage to anything.
Looks kinda like it off some govt. motors car, not sure which one though.
I havent been doing anything with the tint, for some reason the tubes interfered with the bracket I will see if it can be used once I get the tubes tightened down into place. the spoiler came from a geo storm and is stamped Aeroform of Kansas City, MO
I think I have one of those in the garage.I have about 5 or 6 spoilers in the rafters.I know they are close to the width of our cars, just don't know what all of them came from....or even where I got them at this point.
Spoiler looks Good ! I like the Look !
thanks!! really means a lot coming from you :D love your bird
the car is getting really close to being ready to start only needs a few more things :D :D
Thanks to you to man ! I bet you can't wait to get it started . Keep posting pictures , We love to see progress !!:burnout:
I'm with 1 BADBIRD, I think it looks good. The one on mine is an A&A.
thinking about painting it Satin black since the red doesnt match but I am open to comments and suggestions
I think I'd do the same. Then if you get the car painted you can have it done the same color.
here is what I did on the silver bird years back. the new spoiler is almost exactly the same only a little narrower
starting to stress alittle about this build. engine is mostly assembled but waiting on funds for a 1/2" intake spacer. decided to try to get the engine to crank over by the key and no go.. :( when I turn the key to the start position I hear a clicking of a relay coming from what sounds to be in the package tray and the lights in the dash dim but no crank. if I cant figure out these issues the car will be up for grabs :(
Is there plenty of power to the battery? The fuel pump relay is under the package tray area.
I agree, it sounds like a weak battery.
I'll pull the battery from the cougar and see what happens and report back.
edit, does the fuel pump have to be hooked up for the engine to crank? another thing I have no way of hooking up the neutral safety switch which is probably the cause.... :(
needing the harness for the tranny if anyone has access to a V8 car in one of the yards.
jumper the wires temporarily to see if it'll start/crank?
Can't remember offhand which wires are the safety, and which are the reverse lights..
too wet to do much with the car today, I'll try next chance I get.
sniff sniff :( had to take the car to storage today
Bummer dude. Get it to start yet?
Wish I could help somehow...
no start as of yet, living in the city me off I'm tired of being told what I can and cant do...
just knock out ur living room and make it a 1 car garage
might make it hard to see the TV :rollin:
Your harness is in transport.
Awesome buddy. Thanks :D
been a while since I have made a post in this thread, no worries car is still coming along nicely :D so I will tease you guys a bit lol I ended up with a stack of snowflakes that the bird gladly gave up
I worked hard, all week, with the flu. I'm tired, cranky, and I'm in no mood for being teased. Now get me some friggin' pics of the action....NOW !!!!
Haha! Get him Vinnie!!!
here ya go :D
Ooooh, shiney.
Who was that"pimp" guy that used to be here? He had a set of those on his Cougar. Nice wheels........................and thanks. I'm feeling better today.
Looking good grahm!!! I plan on a 302 swap in my 1987 bird i just aquired. I would post pics but it says my file is to large WTF!!! Oh well see ya on facebook otherwise!!!
John, email the pic to me and I will size it down for you. kurtdonaldkobain6794@yahoo.com
Yeah, carpimp. I couldn't think of his name for some reason.
NIRVANA fan according to email address. His full name and year he was born and then died!!! Kool!!!
s'what's been going on with this thing lately? anything?
btw, might be havin to pull those "turbo coupe" labels off.... since I don't think they ever came with 302's;)
turbo coupe badges are staying right where they are ;) and I am not going to advertise that the car has anything bigger than a 2.3l lol
as far as progress I havent really had time to do much but should be able to get something done here soon.
yes Sir! was an awesome guy. I have my doubts on his death though :(
Yeah Courtney love is one phycho b___h!!! LOL way to many drugs id say!!!!!! But like with Layne Stanley of Alice in Chains there music really got weird towards the end before there deaths!!!! Like they went off the deepend or something!!!
hey the weirdness in Nirvana is what made them so interesting!!
nirvana was good, yes, but, AIC ftw:headbang:
been a while since I have updated on this project, engine in, wired and has spark but for some reason the fuel pump wont prime with the key on but will prime in the start position. also I am not getting fuel pressure at the rail, could this be a bad FPR?
Are you sure the pump is good?
if the pump runs its good right? I mean it was when it was in the Black TC and that car ran.
could it be possible that I installed the fuel lines in reverse when I put the ends on? or would that even really matter? I am at a loss here the pump does pull fuel from the tank but I do not get pressure at the rail.
You do get fuel at the rail, right? Maybe a bad filter. I have an FPR (factory chrome piece in nice shape) you can have if you need it.
I think the fuel lines are different sizes, at the connectors. I KNOW they are at the engine, and i'm rather certain they are at the tank, as well.
A bad fpr might cause the engine to run rough, but shouldn't keep it from running. But I may be wrong..
I'm no pro on this, but if the FPR was bad, it seems like it would dump gas in way too much.No pressure at the line has got me to thinking bad filter or bad pump.
Graham texted me, said he found a kink in the fuel line, but now has good pressure, but still no start...
The injectors are grounded through the EEC, and when that ground is supplied, that's when they spray fuel, correct?
I can get the engine to fire on starting fluid and I have good fuel pressure, now I am to the point where I am thinking the ecu is bad. vinnie do you warranty your parts?!?!? lol
You're a mass air setup on that car, right?
I have a spare eec from a Mark VII...)
Try a different regulator if you have one...might help, might not, but worth a shot.
non mass air. the ecu is from a mark VII. if I remember right its a DA1
is there any repinning that needs to be done at the ecu connector for the HO swap?
No sir, not that I'm aware...I swapped mine with no issues..wanna borrow my Mark7 eec to test with?
sure do if you dont have to take it from your bird.
sitting in the white cabinet in my shop...shoot me your addy and I'll get it on the way tomorrow :)
Sending text now
IT RUNS!!!!! I have some major vacuum leaks to track down but it is alive!! :D
Great !!! The vacuum issues aren't that hard to figure out. One hose at a time. Congrats !!!
Thanks!! I dont need an eec after all ;)
What was the issue then?
Must post pics and video!
issue was a bad ground at the eec relay, sorry I didnt get to this sooner! video will come soon :)
Did you solve your problem that you texted me about?
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i143/88turbocoupe/th_2012-01-22_22-33-49_81.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/albums/i143/88turbocoupe/?action=view¤t=2012-01-22_22-33-49_81.mp4)
took me a while to get some proof but here she is :D
sounds awesome!!
Thanks, only open exhaust right now need to get some tail pipes to finish my exhaust
Awesome!
stupid ground..... lol
backed the car out of the garage under its own power today!! not much else as far as progress other than waiting on tail pipes so I can finish up the exhaust.
Looks real good!
Thanks Clayton!
Graham , Nice ride bud :headbang:
Thanks Dan!
Looks and sounds great Graham!!
copycat... lol
looking good
I'm no copy cat! mine has Cool Ford stickers :flip:
short rev video
http://s71.photobucket.com/albums/i143/88turbocoupe/?action=view¤t=2012-03-05_19-06-12_690.mp4
really smooth sounding.
Im hoping mine idles down to about 700-800 and lopes like its gonna die. Aaaaaaaaaaand revs that smooth.
Sounds good Graham
thanks, I still havent set my timing. cant seem to find my light :shoothead: btw Clayton.. its your turn to make some noise
Soon. Ive got some mo' wiring to do and Im waiting on Mac to ship my darn mooooflers. Then you might hear mine light up.
Hopefully it doesnt take near as long to get the lers as it did to get my CHE lowers. Also waiting on my rear drop springs, and tank mounts.. By the time everything rolls in I could have the interior 99% done.
Yep, sounds good Graham!!
Thanks Jay!
time for another update, I finally installed a 1/2" intake spacer after fighting a rich running condition, turned out my ecu took a dump. Tonight I mounted the map sensor and started putting the dash back together still need a few parts to be complete. only a few more things to do and the car is DONE!!!
nice job bro!
Thanks my friend :D
not much going on here right now, pulled the car out and rinsed the dust off and pulled it back in.
I finally got ahold of a drivers door glass, been waiting for a while to complete my doors but they are done.
You say you need the little chromes plastic threaed piece that goes on the door lock rod, the part that protrudes through the panel? I'm sure I may have one around here..it's yours if I can locate it :)
That I do, remember they are the long ones ;-)
Friday I brought the car around front for the first time for a bath then right back in the garage, today I painted and installed the rear spoiler, I know I will get some mixed opinions on it but I like it.
Un-Spoiler it !!!!! Great otherwise.
I thought long and hard before I drilled the first hole in the trunk lid, since there are now 4 holes drilled in the lid the spoiler stays!!
Looking good Graham!!
Love the spoiler , it is a great look !
:iagree: Where'd you find it. I'd like one too.
I found it on a Geo Storm. was a PITA to remove.......
Something is missing......
And i know what's goin' back there..lol
You're kidding..right??... I didn't think they were wide enough. Unless of course the spoiler over hung. LOL
Let me guess........ uh you're going flintstone style brakes?? J/K
If you guys are looking for that type of spoiler early 80's trans am's have that type of spoiler.
trans am spoilers are different. I think Beretta's had these too.
Seems like I read that T/A spoilers are too wide?
I got-er-done! everything I used was from an 86 cougar and it works fine with my disk brakes.
Good Deal!! Glad everything is working for you
Not to hijack your thread 88turbo but this is the T/A spoiler, not bad I think just a bit lower than yours.
That looks really good!
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i143/88turbocoupe/th_2012-09-06_16-43-22_11.jpg) (http://s71.photobucket.com/albums/i143/88turbocoupe/?action=view¤t=2012-09-06_16-43-22_11.mp4)
After 3 long years, Its finally Done!!!!! :burnout:
you beat me.... lol
how did I beat you???? lol
YOU think you are done, but the car is the one that decides.
I hope you CHOKE!!!!! j/k
looks good graham!
do you have any PRC strut covers?
Good job. Glad you're almost done. Now, GET THE TITLE !!!! I wonder when you're going to get stopped by the police for driving it illegally, and have it impounded. I will buy it from you for a dollar, tell you that I'll get the title, then, in reality, keep it for myself.
Those of you that know me on a personal level know that the car is going through some more changes, I am currently building another 5.0 for the red bird. The new engine is a 2000 Explorer 5.0 with an E303, 1.6 Roller rockers, trickflow springs, and some other good stuff :) I will post some progress pics when I get a chance.
teaser pic :D
Nice! In a couple of months I'll have something like that myself...only a little bigger.
347FTW!!!! (would be nice, I wish I had one)
It looks like the engine in my Thunderbird, except I painted the timing cover Ford blue as well.
I noticed you're running the Explorer upper with the stock HO valve covers. Did you have to use a spacer or did it clear fine? I'm going to stick an Explorer intake on my Mark and I was wondering if I needed a spacer to clear the stock HO valve covers. The Thunderbird runs FRPP ribbed EFI Cobra valve covers and they are taller than stock so I had to run a 1/2" intake spacer to clear them.
I used a spacer but the intake will clear just fine. I used the spacer to clear the FPR on the F150 fuel rail since mine is a TC
another pic, sorry my progress is slow.
time for another update, the engine and tranny are in and swapped in the clutch pedal setup. here are some more pics
Sweet!
Gotta LUV it!!
Will love it more when all the work is done!! :-D
It's bluuuueee! Looks good! You're really showing people it's a Ford with all the blue ;)

a few videos enjoy :D
Looking good
Sounds great :)
What lers are you running? They sound nice.
they are flowsounds (imitation flowmaster)
