I always liked these as well. my sister used to have a white one a little old lady used to own. She drove it through college up until she got married and replaced it with a new Camry.
My buddy had one as his first car. Lots of adventures in that, on and off road, until the 3.8 blew its headgaskets.
I know it's not an LTD, but it does have an LTD nose on it. ;)
I've always wanted a LTD LX. The girlfriend doesn't understand why I would want a boxy 80's 4 door :giggle:
^^ mine either
Pure awesomeness right there.
I've owned 2 fox marquis' and one ltd lx. I like 'em! Here's a nice one that I saw on craigslist:

I always wanted to see what the Futura would look like with the LTD nose! Cool ride!
THAT is a nice car.
I've seen these cars with Mustang front clips on them and the overall look was great.
Any of the Fairmont body cars (Fairmont/Zephyr, 81-82 Granada/Cougar sedans and 1983-85 LTD/Marquis) are easy to swap bolt on front clips ... I would never go to the trouble of making a Mustang nose fit as that takes pure fabrication and you really don't get that much of a different look than the four-eyed look of the 83-86 LTD which simply bolts into place. It's interesting the different combinations of looks you can come up with. It's even more interesting that many of the Fox platform cars can switch instrument panels around.
i'm going to check to see if the car i started this thread about is still available, if it is i think i'm going to buy it and make it my new DD...
probably swap the engine from the bird into it, convert to mass air, finish porting the e7's i picked up a while back, and put the wheels off the bird on it too.
be fun blowing the doors off the imports in a an old 4 door box on wheels....
t-bird will be getting a 351w or 460 if i pull it's heart for the LTD, so it's a win-win
There are a few of those lined up in the back corner of my favorite yard.
mine is not an ltd, but close enough.

THOSE wheels look WAY better than the snowflakes.Nice choice.
hubba hubba, that is sweet! Shake a box of fox parts and get a GNX killer.
Hey all Fox cars count! There had to be a Fairmont before there could be the mid-sized LTD since the LTD is a restyled version of a Fairmont.
Oh yeah that is one of my favorites. It even has a w red interior with the 1985-86 Mustang GT dash trim, full gauges, seats and console.
I remember when the LTD first came out in 1983 and I so wanted to see that LTD nose on a Futura coupe body. Glad to see someone has done it. Such a shame that body style went out of production. I always said that should have been the 1980 Tbird instead of the one we ended up with. From a marketing standpoint it would have been better to carry over the very popular basket handle roof of the 1977-79 Tbirds by simply saving the Futura body just a while longer with the Tbird nameplate applied instead.
Hey....watch that language. There's women and younger ones around here.
that's funny, because I thought the same thing. Thats why I sold the rod lites and went to the snow flakes, it looked to nice.:punchballs:
There's a 2-door Fairmont Futura a few miles away from my house. I look at it every time I drive by, thinking how wicked it would look with body-color turbines and some window tint.
Oh really? Seemed like a sausage party to me. My bad.
Well, for the most part it is :(
But you still have to mind the rules here. Not too hard.
Spotted a Futura up the road from me a while back, and drove by it again yesterday. It's parked by a cabin/resort owned by a high school classmate that I know. If I bump into him anytime soon, I'll be asking about it. It's yellow :yuck: But I need a daily driver before my Jeep takes its final dump.
A guy near me drives a beat up red LTD LX. I see it fairly often. I figure the poor thing is dying a slow death.
I love the 2-door fairmonts. not the futuras, though. If I can find one under a grand, that'll be my next project.
I used to own a LTD LX with 40k miles on it and I did enjoy it. I sold it on eBay and it went to SC.
The other day I found a LTD cop car for sale and I had to buy it, $400. I need it like a hole in the head and it just sits in my back yard. But I just had to buy it.
I will try to find pictures later.

+1, but if a Futura is available, I'd buy that, too. Now a Force-Futura would be sweet.
I love the Futura coupe so much I would love to have one if the opportunity came up. I have liked those cars since they were brand new. Guess I am a geek like that.
When I was younger I always had the idea that I wanted to take one and make a phantom Tbird out of it. That included swapping the front end for a 81-82 Granada style. However when the 83 LTD came out I wanted that nose instead. I would have bird emblems on the wrapover roof quarters and a few stratigically placed elsewhere.
After reading a history book on Tbirds complete with styling proposals I learned that the Futura was originally a downsized Thunderbird styling proposal.
Funny this thread came up, because my brother just bought this LTD LX on eBay...

ANYONE WANNA TRADE HOODS?
Very nice!
Shiny Side Up!

Not a problem. I don't wanna be seen in this car until that hood is gone and we fix whatever is wrong with the suspension. :)
This car is great, but don't let the eBay auction fool ya...that motor isn't nearly as hot sounding as described.
There were no such thing as a "R" code 289, not ever... The solid lifter Hi-Po 289s were "K" codes, maybe he's confused or could be lying...
Well an "R" is just a "K" with a hat on. So maybe that's what he meant. It's a "K with a hat on" code 289. :D
