I went and turned plumb crazy and put NON STOCK LOOKING PARTS ON!!!!!:eek::eek: :rollin:
I suppose every man has his price, and Sick88TBird sold me this full explorer intake, which naturally will be better than just porting the lower as I intended, and probably would have spent the same doing only that piece. And the wrinkle black paint he put on it looks really cool to me, and I think it works in there pretty good. Not to mention rather.....factory looking now that I have one and look at it in person. :D hehe.
Thanks to DVP, i'll have a matching 65mm throttle body soon, something I totally forgot about. Thanks though Vin, for pointng those other finds out to me. That was pretty much my next plan of attack, amazingly 7 different yards around here have absolutely zero 5.0 Explorers. Oh well.
Also...finally got to the test and tune this past wednesday. And ran a 15 flat at 91 mph. Was a *little* disappointed there, but this thing is 3700 lbs with me and 5 gallons of fuel. However...I decided to check the timing before I went, and Ive noticed the last few days its been very sluggish and hesitating badly around 3 grand. Occured to me today that I may not have bolted down the hold-down right. :wtf: Uh.....ladies and gents...theres a shockingly large difference in performance between 2 degrees retard and 16 degrees advance. So needless to say Im curious as to what it will run with that correct and with the throttle body. If only dad were still alive to smack me upside the head when I do dumb like that. LOL :hick:
But to someone who didn't know would be none the wiser so I think you're good man. ;)
Looking good - I gave up on the "stock" look under the hood ages ago :)
Nothin wrong with that...we all forget some minor thing once in a blue moon...least you wasn't they guy that poured brake fluid into his LT1 Pontiac....now THAT was worth of being smacked for...:beatyoass::rollin:
When ya gonna get to run it again since you "fixed" the timing??
Well...test n tune is every wednesday. Place is about 45 minutes away, probably wont have the TB by then, I think I'll plan on next week, but shouldnt need to be later than that, soon as I get it all set up, goin back to check it out. Definitely oughta crack into the 14s, and just doing that will make me all smiles....
You stinkin nub, I felt like that 15flat was slow, even with the slightly extra weight. Get that thing back on the track ASAP.
Yeah Im thinkin it wasnt right, ESPECIALLY seeing as like 1 or 2 runs it bogged like outta the hole then all of a sudden BAAAAHHH I was like ok thats weeeeiiiird. :hick: My buddy sean has been laughin his ass off thing was probably whackin back and forth hahahaha. As I drove it around town beating the piss out of it trying to figure out why it wasnt going anywhere...
you should get a mid 14 out of it pretty easily....
It's very dark under your hood.......needs some Ford blue paint ;)
I totally agree. I love ford engine blue! I even painted my sway bar the color, lol.
'K first of all Ford Blue > life, BUT yes GOOD that its dark so ya cant see the py parts lol :hick:
:barf: LOL, not a fan myself. I like the way the intake looks in there. I think it would seem more suspicious if it was silver.
Im swapping my air box back in. Still have my Motorcraft sticker on it!
Silver engine paint is your friend. Just paint all the brackets/accessories and tada it looks 100% better;)

Hey man that thing looks good under there...did you have time to hit it with another coat of wrinkle black? The attention to detail of cutting the bracket off and cutting it out of the grooves along with smoothing the casting flash off should help set you apart a little. See what a nice guy I am? B/S, because you know I cleaned it up for me! lol. I'm glad to see you got it on.
I know about the whole timing thing...broke in my cam in the 351 with like 8-10* retarded...."why is it running hot and like ?!"...amazing how 16-18* of timing makes a rediculous difference. Personally, I don't think you'll be able to keep it hooked up out of the hole with the timing set right. Fingers crossed, hope for the best and let us know!
Good luck,
Don
What about that aftermarket line on the A/C??? That's not original....:D
Yeah hey Don kingcars actually pointed that out to me!!! Thats cool, what a clean removal. Tottally forgot abotut that nub there. I didnt hit it with another coat. Its fine as is.
And tom, that's not an original line? I had no idea. Must have been replaced when my dad had the A/C fixed 10 years ago when he bought the thing and the A/C didnt work. Interesting. Guessin since its not black?
Someday the engine will be yanked and Ill clean the whole thing up and probably repaint most of it. For now, Im not complainin about its condition being a 22 year old northeastern vehicle. Im glad I finally have a winter car so this wont deteriorate annnny more, so that day will eventually come!
Expect that TB a day earlier than whatever I told you. I thought I shipped it on Wen not Tues.
