i have an 87 tc and i have 5.0 efi and 351 carb engine witch would be the best one to use
Need more info.....
1) What's wrong with the 2.3T that should be in the car right now?
2) Why does everyone want to keep throwing V-8's in these things?
3) Are people just scared of the little turbo motor?
Matter of preference, a TC with 5.0 power is the Sport Ford SHOULD have built... Not saying they should not have built TCs, just would have been nice IF we'd had a choice... You 2.3 guys don't seem to have a problem parting one out, but lord knows don't put another engine in it... Anyway it's just a car,
get over it...
Like V8 stated, we really need more info... Mainly do you have any of the additional parts necessary??? Wiring harness, transmission, motor mounts, accessories etc, etc....
If you insist in putting a v8 in, the efi harness is getting tougher to find, plus you need another comp. The 351 will go in with less hassles without the electronics. or you could carb the 5.0. the 351 may have hood clearance issues. plus you will probably have to do something about the tranny.
5.0:
v8 mounts and brackets, unless you get a set of Chuck's mounts,
bigger radiator, you'll need to find a v8 bell for the t5 if you have a man. trans, or an AOD and the related linkages and parts if you have auto.
for a 351w you'll need at least the v8 mounts, a 351-Fox swap pan, some kind of fuel pressure regulation, and most definitely a v8 radiator. You'll probably have hood clearance issues too.
That's just the basics...not even getting into wiring etc.
Like said before, more info with what you're planning would help us to help you ;)
when i got the tc the gear box was in the trunk in pices the owner told me the head was crack and the turbo was to so i have 88 tbird 5.o good motor body rusty
i have an 88 donnor
Sounds like hot rodding at it's best. Take what you've got and make something from it.
Sounds like a nice project.
With two donors, I would think you'd have everything you need. How's the V-8 car run?
Sounds like the TC's drivetrain has had it.
the 5.0 runs good but going to tear it down and check to make sure
351 uses the same style mounts. You can reuse these. The bolt pattern is the same for a 351 trans. The flywheel is different. You could probably use regular 5.0 wiring with minimal changes, as well as the gas lines. The 351 lower is wider, but could easily be had from a gt40 351 lower. Would cost a good bit though.
I think a 351 would be fairly easy, and would cost quite a bit less then a stroker 302. A stock 351 block should be able to make over 500hp without splitting as well. And if you like the idea of a stroker you can get a 351 over 400ci if you decide to later on.
If you're going into it, at least up grade to a HO specs, a std 5.0 is a turd at best...
Yeah, yeah we'll hear my SO 5.0 did so & so... Car and Driver got mid 16s out of a new '87 Sport... Defiantly turd...
