Hello, all. I am rewiring my whole car. i have not clicked on the linkys yet,
Sorry, it's not a spam. I own a '86 GT Mustang and had no luck so far with my ? about wiring my car. I came accross your site, when I Goggled about "Push Button Start". I read All 6 pages about the install. I was Very impressed with the helpfulness of the members and knowledge of the electrical systems.
Ok, I'm guessing you're just trying to figure out where the wires in your aftermarket harness connect to the ignition switch, right?
Based on the info in the diagrams you've provided I'd say this:
#31 PINK (COIL) in your harness would connect to the RED/LIGHT GREEN and BROWN/PINK wire (circuit 262 or 16 in your ign sw diagram - connect to both wires).
#34 RED (IGN PWR) in your harness would connect to the YELLOW wires (circuit 37 in your ign sw diagram). There will be two yellow wires at the ignition switch - connect your #34 RED to BOTH of them.
#19 PURPLE in your harness would connect to the WHITE/PINK wire (circuit 33 in your ign sw diagram). NOTE: In T-Birds and Cougars this wire is RED/BLUE STRIPE, not WHITE/PINK as your diagrams shows
How to connect the #32 BROWN and #33 ORANGE circuits depends on what those circuits feed in your new harness. Whichever one feeds the radio circuit would be connected to the BLACK/LIGHT GREEN wire (circuit 297 in your ign switch diagram). The one that feeds the blower motor would be connected to BOTH GREY/YELLOW STRIPE wires (circuit 687 in your ign switch diagram).
The brake light and dash light prove out circuits in the ignition switch don't appear to be part of your new harness. If this is the case your new harness should provide other means of making those warning lights work.
O.K Thanks! Forgot to let you know, I have remove the heating system on my car. Also, I still have the Power Doors w/locks & windows. It's a "Want-A-Be Racer"!! LOL But ,how do I connect the large gauged wires together? Can I find a but connector big enough to join them? And last? Since your were able to figure this out soooooo fast. Can you break down the other two harnesses on my column? I think they have the turn signals in them? One harness is near the top of the column, and the other is towards the bottom on the driver's side. Thanks once again. You "Rock"!!!!
Here's the wiring diagram for the turn signal/hi/low beam switch. In the top right of this diagram you can see the pin-out of the connectors. You did say '86 Mustang, right?
As for connecting the large gauge wires together: You can buy uninsulated large-gauge butt connectors (pico P/N 4000 for 8-gauge, which should be OK). Even with butt connectors the joints should be soldered.
O.K. I ran into a snag. I need to see a Head Light Switch Diagram for my 1986 Mustang GT. Cann't seem to find one anywhere. What does #3 and #11 on the turn signal diagram go to? Also, where does the small gauged wire from the key cylinder go to? I made some really good progress today wiring. Once I can figure this out,I can install my dash cluster. Then all I have left is the Head-Light Harness and the Tail Light Harness to install.
Help a Brother out?
Sorry, man, I've checked, and I don't have that diagram...
I want my MaMa!! LOL
#3 shows fuse 10 providing the 12v to the "flash to pass switch". Pin #6 then goes to the Hi beams.
They stopped using this method in 85 on the T-Birds. They started using a flash to pass relay. They use the switch to provide the ground for the relay.
#11 goes the the brake light switch.
The wire on the key cylinder is for the "key reminder switch" in the cylinder. The wire goes the the warning chime module.(pin 6 on the T-Bird)
I can post the T-Bird headlight switch diagram if you think it would be useful.
From the 86 T-Bird/Cougar EVTM:
