What is needed to make a C5 work in a car like ours? I had thought about putting one of these of a T-5 in my car but got a pretty good deal on a C5 that I may buy. Any thoughts?
The C5 is based off the C4 and has the small block Ford bolt pattern. It's a 3-speed, non-overdrive, RWD trans. It was standard equipment on 1983-86 3.8 cars (AOD was optional in 1986 though).
I am running a c5 behind my 302.I used everything from the 3.8,
bellhousing, flexplate, starter and torque converter (I would highly suggest NOT using the v6 torque converter).
I plan on going with a new C4 ,2000 stall converter, bellhousing and flexplate OR replace c5 valve body with c4 valve body and keeping the c5.
this is a 83 tbird I am talking about,so I dont know how much diff. the 86 would be.
What did you use for a drive shaft? Cougar piece or something else?
stock driveshaft
the c5 also uses a lockup converter and a kickdown lever not a cable.
i need to add oil to my c5 trans and looked up in haynes manual to find that i need to put type H fluid i went to the store and it appears there is none, i also cheked on motomaster.com and they dont seem to have type H fluid is it discontinued or what and if so what can i put in my c5 thanks everyone
this is what I am using.its made by Castrol
