I am thinking of selling one of special items. I have a NOS drivers side complete 1/4 panel date coded 11/87. Any ideas on what it may be worth? I know it's a "how bad does someone need it" part, but just thought I would ask. I was saving for when I stripped my quarter panel to see what was underneath.
Jim
Well, there an NOS header panel (Turbo Coupe) and two fenders for about $450 on Ebay.I'm sure the biggest part of that money (at least half or more) is for the header panel.I'd bet maybe a hundred bucks.....maybe on the high side.Like you already know,in the end,it's only worth what one will pay.
To tell you the truth...it is worth about $1500...no one is making repros so I would call Late Model Resto and see what they would give you for it, just to get some repro parts running. Ford most likely does not even stock these quarters anymore. Usually anything after 20 years is gone.
I agree that it is probably worth more on paper, but what one will pay is different.I'd bet finding someone to pay that much for a 1/4 for our cars would be a pretty hard task.
In the last 7 years I've never seen
anything NOS for these cars to be worth $1500. Ever. The closest I've seen was a NOS 1983-86 Cougar rear quarter panel that the seller was firm with $500, local pickup only. Had I been closer to the guy the panel would be in my garage. I didn't find that to be unfairly priced.
A year ago, a guy tried to sell a NOS 1983-84 dash pad on eBay for $400. He paid that much for it 15+ years ago so he figured it had to be worth that now. Tried it once, no bites, so he threatened on his second relisting that if it didn't sell, it would go back into storage until after he died, when his kids could sort out all his stuff. I wasn't about to give someone like that the money, even though the part was something I'd like to have. That was really out of line as far as pricing. Even half that, I'd have to think about.
Back to the subject...a very rough estimate would be anywhere from $250-350 US. I think $400 would be pushing it a little, although with the way Turbo Coupe guys have been shelling out for parts lately, you might get lucky. Does it have the cornering lamp cutout?
If you want top dollar...I would definitely consider listing it on the NATO board first, then eBay.
I'm not looking to make a killing on it, but I was just considering selling it to offset some of the money spent. I spent a decent amount of money when I bought it so I guess it will just continue to sit until I decide what to do with it.
Eric, it's a quarter panel.
I emailed about the ebay NOS fenders and header panel and MAY have bought them if it wasn't $200 to ship.
Ebay it with a reserve, see what happens. probably won't sell what you want but who knows?
No Ebay. I will just leave it where it is until something happens.
-ok, i was gone last week, so i didnt see this till now, so i'll throw my ignorance in on the subject, just because....;)
funny thing on those 1/4 panels. ive got the RH side which was discontinued later than the left, but anyways, ive had mine about 6-7 years now and never thought of getting rid of it, but i'm always open to offers.....:hick: but heres the weird Ford thing about it. when discontinued, the left side retailed for $578, the RH for $879.....go figure.......but their that way on ALL lerft/right parts, but usually if i am trying to sell something that is obsolete and fairly rare, i look to see what dealer cost was when discontinued and at LEAST try to get that....but thats me. not everyone can look at those prices. but, as stated, its only worth what someone will give. and as my brother says...you can always come down, but you cant go up.....;). so i'd put out feelers or do the ebay reserve thing, never hurts......but yeah just for my part i wouldnt let mine go for less than $5-600....but thats me.....
It's one of those parts that I don't really want to sell because they don't pop up for sale too often. I already sold my FMS 140mph speedo awhile back. :punchballs:, but I am holding onto a few other parts! The quarter panel just takes up alot of room.
last year there was a guy on craigslist around here with a n.o.s. rear 1/4 (i cant remember which side) for an 86 tbird.
he was asking $150 bucks. wouldve bought it if i had the scratch just for a spare.
I think that I remember that one. Didn't he start out asking $400?
I guess I will just post it up for sale. If interested, check the for sale forum.
I feel I should find a bird to rebuild so I could give it a home
