Can a Fox type performance Mustang fuel pump be installed in a 88 turbo coupe gas tank? Anything need to be changed?
fuel sock for the pump is different pump is the same. Just put a bird sock on it.
The TC and 5.0 Stang used the exact same 88lph pump... As already stated, the sock is different and the hose from the pump discharge to the hanger assembly has a different curve... Be sure to repl it though, they often "blow out" at its curve...
Got it, thanks guys, My project turbo/5.0L swap has a bad pump so I thought I might as well put an upgrade aftermarket unit in. Summit has a 155 lph for about $80 which might be a good one.
I put a BBK 255lph High Pressure pump in my '86 for around $150. Might be something to think about, depending on where you want to go with your TC.
Here's the place to get your replacement pump... I got one after the POS Carter I bought failed in a year and a half(at the entrance to VMP no less)...

I went ahead and got a Summit/Walbro 255 lph. Dropped the tank swapped the pump. I reinstalled the Bird sock but the pump to tank o-ring is different so I'll run to the shop tomorrow for one. The Bird pump has a plastic tube with a round metal drum head that hooks the pump to the fuel tube. I've seen this on other pumps over the years. I believe it was to reduce sound pulses but never saw any Ford books saying that. I would think I can do away with that and just put a straight fuel hose there. Any thought about this?
Ummm I've never seen one of those in a TC... The half dozen or so pumps I've replaced were identical to the 5.0 Stangs(even same engineering #) and just used a formed piece of hose to connect the pump to the hanger output...
A '87 5.0 Bird I junked had the setup up you're describing, possibly the tank or pump/hanger was swapped from another car??? That '87 used a large Bosch pump...
