Title: Carl's 88 Turbo Coupe
Post by: Carl on March 21, 2009, 11:46:59 PM
Ok, so the tbird is now fully underway. I am in the process of putting my stage 3 t3/t4 in and so far everything seems to be fine. I just need to get the old return line off. Tomorrow morning I am test fitting everything so I can line up the vitals.

Here are some pics.. sorry for them being small but my camera went to the smallest setting for some reason.

original turbo going out

The new turbo!

I am going to run off the stock boost controller for now, but I only want to run 15 psi to start with anyway to see if there is anything wrong with the engine itself.

Had the turbo taken apart and cleaned by a friend who is an expert on turbos. Also he lined up the wastegate and customized it for my application. He broke the bracket and re-welded it so it lined up perfect. Also, he refinished and painted my E6 manifold with ceramic paint.

here are some pics. (btw there is plenty of clearance for that oil drain line even though it does not look like it)

Looks like it was just tacked in place. I'd be nervous bout it but thats just me, I'm turbo four retarded.

It is just tacked into place for now so we can take it off easily if that fitting does not work right. He is going to fully weld it once we know it works.

Well, I got everything on the car... now I am finding out the stock intercooler is not going to clear the hood. I was going to go FMIC anyway but I cannot afford it at the moment.

I was thinking as a temp fix, I could run high pressure PVC pipe and locate the side mount somewhere else. Has anyone had experience with this method?

*update*

after reading an email from my friend. luckily for me he has 2 FMICs sitting around and can weld up some pipe for me. I am going to just run 10 psi with no intercooler just to get around and see what we can do later with an actual Front Mount!

Pull the rubber weatherstrip off of the stock hood ducting. I had to do that when I ran my hybrids on my TC's.
