Title: My $50 Cougar!
Post by: coug460 on March 16, 2009, 08:08:40 AM
I finally got around to posting pics. So this is my 1987 Cougar LS that i was able to get for $50 just before it went to the s yard. Its currently a work in progress with already having a 460 and an AOD. Also i have added along with that a complete MTX sound system, 35% mirrored gunmetal gray window tint, front and rear strobe lights and a backlite grill, spinner hubcaps until i can get some rims, and i pulled the reflectors out of the taillights so that their clear. I got some newer pics that i'm going to put on with the car having the spoiler from my 87 Firebird on it.

$50? Hardly looks like a $50 car. Now my car was a $75 and it looks like it. Nice find, kill the hubcaps.

Verrrrry purty! Other than the spinners, it looks like nothing needs to be changed. I can understand the sound system..and mebbe the strobes, but why would you want to put a spoiler on the back? Its beautiful the way she is..IMHO.
**just looked at the pics again..I could see strobes added, but from behind the grill. May I ask were they added for aesthetics or because you're with a volunteer fire department? (That was my first thought..if not..oops.)

The Lights behind(actually above shining done) the grill are just red LED's that make the grill glow red in color. Just me the spoiler on the back looks awesome. It's nice and low nothing like what you see on a fart can lered Honda LOL.

Unfortunately those hubcaps look exactly like what you'd find on a fart canned Honda. Rest of the car looks good though. I like the colour...

I would say you got a deal. Is your grill still like that? Might want to fix it soon. Just dont want it to fall out on you.
Try and pick up some 10 holes or turbines until you get the rims you want. Mustang guys almost throw them away (sometimes they do). They can be had cheap. The caps are just killing it for me. Overall though it really looks like a nice car.
I second the engine pic, and some interior and underbody shots if you could.

When i go to the one car show at the end of April i'll probably pick some rims up.

where do you see a spoiler? and how does an AOD bolt up to a 460?
Its a nice looking car. There's no pictures of the back though.

I have never heard of anyone bolting a big block to an aod. Don't know if its possible.
If you paid 50 bucks for that car and it has all that, then its a steal. I would like to see pictures of the engine though. I had a tough time keeping mine cool without modifications when it had the 460 in it. I used a c-6 transmission in mine.

http://www.campbellenterprises.com/automatic-transmission-parts/jw-performance-transmissions/ultra-bell-bellhousing.htm They sell replacement bellhousings and theirs a number of adapters. I got the idea from an older hot rod mag. that i have that has a big block 69 mustang with the AOD. I'll try to put pics on today of the spoiler the pics that i have on now are before i put it on. and the car didn't have the 460 in it when i got it. It had a worn 3.8l that would've need a complete rebuild so decided on an upgrade:evilgrin: .

Dude, I hope you realise that i haven't been on that site since i wrote that. Since then i got my taxes back and all my tax money and the money that i've been saving the last couple of months has been dumped into the car. Cause when my parents got their taxes back all our bills have been paid up to date and now my checks from work are mine so it either goes to my cars or my guitars.

It would be easy to put pics on if i didnt have to borrow a camera from my sister every time, so i'm just making do with what i got for now. You'll all probably feel a little stupid once i get the pics on here. I just need to get my hands on a camera. One other thing some people need to do more research before they tell me that you can't bolt an AOD to a big block all you have to do is search the web and you'll find kits and complete crate trannies to bolt the AOD to a BBF. Just because someone on this forum hasn't posted anything on this topic yet doesn't mean that you can't do it.

If you look knowone really cared until 86XR7project started in on me yanking you guys around and it being fishy (Do u really have nothing better to do then google members and think you know exactly what your talking about when you don't even know me? I also don't see why you think that droping in a big block is a lot of progress for it being two months since i put that on the site. So if thats a lot of progress I wonder how long it takes you to do a brake job or an oil change?). It was never meant to turn out like this so you can believe me or not.

Alight, Im going to say this now before someone of power has to.
STOP!
This is too much BS. If you dont believe, dont. Wait for picture. That is what I am doing. If you want to talk shiznit go to a Mustang board. Everyone needs to calm down and stop assuming. You sir said nothing about an adapter so it was a perfectly reasonable claim to call you out on that since we have no pics yet. I dont care if your lying or not. If you are we will never get pics, you will never be trusted and probably end up banned. If your not then hopefully you will be good member to have around.
Until there are pics there is no need to keep calling BS. coug460 you also have to understand this has happened before. We are close knit here and are skeptical of new members that list things that dont work and dont explain how they did it.
I suggest everyone calm down and wait or the :locked: will be upon us.

Sounds good man. No hard feelings. Like I said we have had some real "winners" join up. One that didnt even own the car he posted about.
Time tells all. I just hope that AOD stands up to the torque of the 460.
What are the specs on the 460? Planning on swapping tranny and rear anytime soon?

I never said you didn't do it, just that I doubted it. I never once insulted you dude. I'm think that going to stay with the AOD I think i'm going to get another one and have it completely built to take the power that i want to make with the 460 or buy a crate tranny later on. http://www.lentechautomatics.com/aodproducts.html make a whole lot of parts for them including crate trannys that can take up to 1500HP and 1000+LB/FT. Rear i haven't decieded but either a 8.8 or a 9in. Motor right now is a stock 87 4 barrel out of a super duty (only paid $20 at a car show because he didn't want to haul it home). I'd like to make it full roller and multi-port fuel injected but this is something thats going to happen over time.

I don't see how you think that $50 seems so hard to believe. Both me and my dad can't belive some of the people on this forum pay as much as they do for a car thats a complete rot box. Plus if i had better pics you would see that both rear qauter need rust repair in the fender lips and lower corners, a new deck lid, and a core support.

So what your saying is there will be no pics until everything is done? You dont get cars for $50 everyday, hell you can barely get a hunk of s that was a car for $50. That is why it is hard to believe.
As time goes on and all we get is more talk, the more skeptical it all becomes. We dont want you to feel unwelcome but what you say doesnt add up in everyones mind.

Guys, come on. Guilty until proven innocent, eh? If I got this treatment when I joined this board I would have told you all to get bent and you never would have seen me again.

How did you run the linkage for the tranny?
This question has been asked more than once by more than one person and you SHOULD have seen it considering the fact that you have responded in this thread AFTER 3 people distinctly asked on how it was done while not addressing the question. Now it's being asked again.
If you're going to post that you've dropped a big block Ford 460 in a fox body Cougar in front of an AOD transmission while running a carb and then follow that up with thumbnail sized pictures of the supposed vehicle that this was done to with those pictures having the 3.8 V6 in the engine bay; you SHOULD expect some skepticism.
Now add to that the fact that apparently this engine has to be removed to address a frame issue and the fact that you've stated pictures of this rather rare combination of Fox/460/AOD/Carb will not be posted for a while only heighten suspicion.
There's a wonderful thing about this particular forum: Since these cars were performance step-children to the deified fox Mustang those who own them and wish to wring more power out of them have to overcome a few obstacles. That requires research which in turn causes the owner to learn in greater detail on the whole than your average fox Mustang owner. Translation: We can smell a lie a LOT sooner....
Also, as stated above, we've had our fair share of Bvllshiznit Artists in the past. Your mannerisms in this thread smack of one in particular. I actually had the notion that it is possible you were that person returning for a third time....
If your being sincere with us than I apologize in advance, however I hope I've brushed upon why you have been met with such skepticism.
:)

Engine in, engine out. Car finished, car still needing done. Which is it. Nothing you say has been consistant. Until I see pics I think you are full of it. I said you got alot done on the car in to months and you attacked me and basically had implied this car was done and now you say you need to get the car put back together?
I never said the project was done. You just implied it. The only resaon i attacked you is because you pissed me off by assuming you knew exactly what you were talking about. Besides now i'm completely fed up with your (all you are is an A** hole) enough said end of story. The motor and everything was but together basically for mock up. If you look back you would see that i said earlier that the engine is coming back out for paint and so i can replace the core support. I would have done it earlier but it was to cold out to be painting the engine compart (i at least want the car to look good and not be some py thrown together pile of ). So now that its getting warm out i can paint the engine and start compartment.

All I'm saying is he even said he could borrow a camera but didn't want to. If he made up a story why not just own up to it and apologize, if not I apologize. I have a hard time believing that he had a $50 as he stated, not impossible but after I Googled him (On a gut feeling, yes I do have that much time on my hands.) I felt my suspision was warranted. If you are a Cougar Thunderbird guy thats great but if you feel you need to make up stories, we aren't going to take kindly to that. Dude, all it takes is some pictures engine, car and engine-in-car. That easy. We'd back off.
And yet again you dodged the linkage question....

So now its a mock up... Couldnt have said that before? Well if it a mock up then the motor is in the car. So if this not all a lie answer this.
What motor mounts did you use?
HOW DID YOU RUN THE TRANNY LINKAGE?
What is the 460 out of?
How is the hood clearance?
How low does the front sit now?
Those are all simple easy questions that you SHOULD be able to answer. You were quick to post the AOD adapter but you cant explain the linkage? This is what I was trying to tell you at the start. WE NEED PROOF!

You dug your hole. You have to climb out. All you need is evidence!

So now you're looking up parts on Summit to appropriate your story? Wow dude you know how to dig it deep huh?

If you look back you will see that i already told you that the motor came out of 87 ford super duty. I mounted the motor using a k-member setup from AJE Racing for the mustang and it comes with the motor mounts for the BBF. They also have them for bolting up a Chevy motor in your car. I never measured out how low it is now but i think its close to 2 inches (i'm looking at either coil overs or really V8 springs to bring the front back up. Hood clearance is a little tight (running a low profile filter). If you look at the one you will see it includes the lokar specified instructions to run the cable its the exact way that i did it.

Ah, yeah. I just got done with my 86, I put a GT500 engine in it with 6-speed. I don't have pictures because I don't want to use my wife's camera but the swap only took me two months to get "mock up" complete, isn't that fantasitic?

You know bashing me and say all the you've been saying to me isn't either. You know if you didn't like what was going on you could've just stop replieing all together and said enough with this guy but you didn't.

Coug I've said it plenty of times pictures will fix it. Instead you resort to childish insults. We didn't bash we just are skeptic by nature. Prove us wrong with pictures or just stop all together? Okay? Just that easy.

Coug460: if you get GOOD, CLEAR, LARGE photos of all this and would like to put them in this thread, send a PM to an admin and we'll reopen the thread so you can post them. Then we'll see what everyone else says.
