So what do you guys think..it has its issuies but its a very clean and well maintained car...I found out what that odd clunk was....burnt valves......:( Can i replace the whole cylinder head, from a jyard motor, or would i have to replace both? just a quik qustion..
i would replace both with the later E7T HO heads or GT40 heads from an explorer/mountaineer. heck while the heads are off id get a cam for it as well.
if you only want to do one head than you would just need a good head but one that matches the stocker.
the car looks nice. did it by any chance come from the gardner area?
I say go for the GT40 heads. It looks really clean. Is the interior just as nice? I just saw some trunk emblems on Ebay if no one here has some. There were like 3 or 4 in one auction.
If you're on a budget,grab a set f heads from a 5.0 EFI pickup (E-7 heads).They are really cheap,and are a lot better than what you have now (Not as good as GT40's,but,it all depends on how deep your pockets are).You're going to have to pull the intake and one of the heads anyway,you may as well do both heads and get it over with.
Thanks guys, for now i dont want to get too deep into the motor, but i am interested in some gt40 or E7s... The interior is just as clean, but my dash is out (heater core..long story)... ti came from britton street in chicopee from the original owner... And i already have the emblem for the trunk, just havent installed it yet. Thank you anyway...I have the window sticker and all that stuff tooo in the cool little velvet pouch.The only thing i have to do before i drive it is replace all the bushings front and back, when you go down the road and swerve from left to right i feel like the car wants to drift.....i already did the ballljoints and ti rod ends and stabilizer bushings, but i still get this aweful squeak everytime i turn the wheel. Dont forget my gf has a blue ls pics coming soon just had a snowstorm..... And my soon to be dd is a 96 f250 heavy duty...Thanks guys!!!!

lol hpefully, little by little, just waiting for funds for the bb... will the gt40 explorer heads work ok with the stock top end, and will regular 5.ol hedders fit ok? And ive been thinking about the cam...... i know it will make the difference...
I was always under the impression GT40P heads wouldn't fit flat top pistons, That is why I was planning on getting new pistons for my 302 in my shop. I'm not really 100%. I always wanted to get an E303 cam from FRPP just because I like the sound of the idle (Stupid reason i know).
Hey its your money, and your car, it should be built how you want it.. i dont really care much for doing alot to the 302, some little stuff here and there, but not much deeper than heads and a cam.... im more interested in my big bock, ill get some pics of that up in a day or so, i have to dig my spare trannys, and block out of the garage.....
Why bb? You can get alot out of a small block thats why alot of people build sb Fords.
I just have this thing for BIG motors, and besides, i love torque..... i dont want to run the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds or anything, but if i can bury just about any import that shifts my way, ill be happy, i originally wanted to go all out, with new pistons, beams heads, and push like 500hp, but now im thinking, nice top end with a mildly aggressive cam, to put myself in the 350hp range, also i LOVE getting sideways, so all that torque will come in handy at low rpms...
And dont tempt me to get a transbrake!!!!!!! this time next year hopefully ill be able to give 88tbird guy a run for his money...lol jk
Besides, an engine bay is for the engine........when i look under my hood, i wanna see motor, not ac compressors, and fuseboxes, and all that ugly bs...smooth ,clean, and strong...... not to mention that real muscle cars in the 60s and 70s, had bbs, so putting a bb in the cougar, makes sense to me!!!!! its like going from a 3.8 to a 5.0, only im going from 5.0 to 7.5!!!!!!! :burnout:

pretty sure a 460 will have a fair amount of torque so if you can get traction you'll be doing fine.

Oh yeah. I know but he'd do pretty good for a close to stock engine. A 460 should put out around 300 HP easy.

It would be interesting to see how a 460 fox could do.
Actually a stock 460 runs out about 240 hp stock, wich is close to double the stock 5.0ls 155hp, but the bb has more torque at LOW rpms, so i wouldnt have to launch as hard to move as quickly, but for now my car is stock, and when the 460 is done, fully rebuilt, and pushin about 500 hp, we'll see who gives who a run!!!
All joking aside, like i said, i dont have to run 9s, and i dont have the urge to do a wheelie (would be sick!) i just want to build something that i made, my way for me to enjoy... ive always loved cars since i can remember, and always loved v8s. The only thing i care about right now is keeping a job, and having my cougar. i really love the car, and never want to have to give it away... sounds selfish i guess, but i like it too much!!!!
You gotta do it for yourself.I did my Sport the way I wanted it.I think it turned out O.K..If you go the big block route,are you going to try and make it look like the factory installed it like that,or going all out ?
Hey thats cool man, do it your way and drive the piss out of it! I plan to do my car the same way and hopefully keep it as long as I possibly can. I'd like to find another Cougar shell at some point to save for my son to build up at some point so when he gets old enough to help me in the shop we can start building his first car.
I want it to look factory installed but clean, a little chrome here and there, and a mininmal amount of AN fittings. And drive the piss out of it is what i plan on doing after its done..... definately go to some car sows, and get some reactions out of some people when they see a bb under the hood!!!! I wish 88 tbird guy would chime in and remind us of how he likes his bb's*********hint*****hint*****JK lol

I know to strengthen up the car, before i do all this, right now im trying to put money away for parts, and slowly but surely build up my block, once a good stretch of warm weather comes, im gonna finish stripping it down, and off to the machine shop it goes!!!! My buddy told me that some napa stores have the shops in the back, so im gonna get an estimate for a complette resurface and bore....maybe 30 over, my buddy is trying to talk me into doing 60, but i think im gonna pass...

obviously i have two different tones of black primer, once evrything is done ill go over it with one solid tone and then throw up my makeshift spray booth, give her some color, and be done for a while...... who am i kiiding...... ill never be done with my car!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!:flip:
oh and the balled up wire in front of my shifter is for a tv....im gonna cut out the fist dent in the dash and put it there........

lol hell yeah, but those are going to be replaced by go slow parts prretty soon!!!! gonna go find out how much its going to cost to get a hole drilled and tapped, and i might see how getting the heders powdercoated will be.. and as of now i have a 3 sets of rockers, the stock so ones, the stock ho ones, and the 1.7s...... ive been avoiding the heater core, cause all the screws were put in my glovebox, and it looks like a big headache!!!! The only thing i need to figure out is where to put the ps2...............i was going to mount it under the pass. side dash, under the glove box........
