Title: 20th anniversary Cougar or '85 Fila
Post by: beej8508 on December 27, 2008, 03:14:05 PM
I currently own an '85 Fila which is in near mint condition.  It has all the factory options except leather interior and graphic equalizer.

I have found a 87 anniversary Cougar that is also in mint condition.  It also has all the options, sunroof, power antennae etc.  The asking price is $1500.  It has 65000 miles on it.

Which car is more desireable?

I'm sayin' the 20th.

It's funny that the Fila is brought up.I was looking through my bedside table and found two or three N.O.S. Fila badges.

This would be a toughie for me, because I like the four eye 'Birds and the 87-88 Cougars most (yet I own an 88 'Bird - go figure). The 4-eye 'Bird has a more muscular, classic car look to it, while the 87-88 Cougar is, in my mind, the perfect automotive shape.

Investment-wise the Coug would probably be the way to go, since it's a limited edition (so is the Fila, but the Coug was one year only and was celebrating a milestone, not just pimping a fashion company). Practicality-wise I'd have to go for the car that's in better shape...

I expect the Anniversary cars (tbird or cougar) will be more valuable than any of the others in the future, but I don't care...the 1985 Fila is a cooler car in my book.

Exactly! They both have their good points and bad points, but if you're asking me, I vote for the Cougar. :D

Man 1500 for a 20th with 65k on it....man now is the time now is the freakin' time. I want a mint low mileage one sooooo bad LOL hopefully they don't get too valuable for another few years or so. Don't let the sig pic fool you there's all kinds of things wrong with it that make it a little far from "mint" at least in my eyes. And yeah 126000 is just a number but I still don't like it :hick:

I second that one. My 20th has 116,000 on it, rust all around the bottom skirts, and some motor quirks to be worked out, granted i only paid 650 for mine, 1500 is a hell of a deal man, take it.

does anyone know the production numbers of the two cars? or how much they cost new? that should give a better idea as far as actual value(like to someone who didnt know anything about these cars) then people on here who have theyre own personal opinions and expiriences. some people like 4 eyes, some dont, but idk if that actually adds value to the car. you know?

You guys should see the Anniversary Cougar that my parents have. Never winter driven, only about 50k miles and the only thing not stock is the tires and the battery. Still smells new inside!

There were only 5002 20th cougars made. I can't find numbers on the 85 bird.

My sentiments exactly and Paul is right, it depends on who you ask.

Personally if I had to choose between two cars and could only purchase one, I would choose the one that stirs my soul the most. I could care less how much it might be worth someday. The next "toy" car I buy will be the same as my Cougar, a lifetime purchase.
