Higher octane fuel burns slower...slower flame front propagation, that's why the higher the compression ratio or with added timing, you'll need to run higher octane.  These cars were meant to run on 87...I ran 100 octane in my old 'Bird with the HO motor and 14* timing...like you described, ran like ....FWIW...I did NOT want to run 100 octane, but I made more passes that night than I thought and it didn't look like I was going to make it very far on what I had left in the tank.  HO motors will run okay on 93 and 94, but that's because they have more compression than the SO.

Hope that helps,
Don

Could be bad gas too. Most of the places where gas is expensive is where I get the worse gas mileage. Also, around here, we get gas at Maverick gas stations at work, and they go through fuel pumps like no tomorrow. At least one or two every year.

If you want to clean it out, throw some sea foam in it. Or a little bit of alcohol.

:drink: moonshine will cure anything...LMAO. I'd have to say water in fuel, there's 2 stations around here at the bottom of a hill, put in 93 octane truck hated it, went through it like water. however it loves the local shell 93. Wierd
