I am just wondering where to get the 140mph speedo that I have seen in a few T-Birds? I am amusing they are coming from the mustangs.
I have a 92 5.0 and yes I know I am currently speed limited due to the factory program in the ecu, but this is gonna change soon :burnout:

It was a rare, special-order only item....sometimes they pop up on evilbay, but usually go for several hundred bucks.
All is not lost...you CAN make your own overlay, and change a resistor inside the gauge and voila! a 140mph speedo..I can't say how involved it is, as I've never done it. If you search, there's several threads about it.
And no, a Stang Gauge won't work. Unless you swap in the whole dash. ;)
(that's also been done too, again, search is your friend lol)
Look up Jeff K, on turbocoupe board He builds and certifies them.:D

I have a whole cluster with a 140 speedo for an 87-88 turbo coupe. Pm me if interested.
Read above - MN12. Different cluster. I believe theirs already goes up to 120 stock?
Ita 86-88 t-bird specific. it used to be a FMS part. Very rare. I paid 250 for mine, NOS. it only had the test milage on it, and it still had the packaging intact. i was a ver very lucky person.
Yeah mine reads 120mph.
I get limited till I put a chip in it to around 110-113mph, hell I am in 3rd gear at that speed.....still got 1 to go :D

Look into nato boards. They have alot of info on swapping out 5.0's to newer thunderbirds that didn't have them as an option. One thing they do is throw in a 94-95 mustang ecu... Aparentally its alot closer then the older fox body mustangs.
Hmm do you have a name or link to a website?
This is all turbo coupes.
I am looking for upgrade tips on my 5.0
The 94-95 ecu sounds good.....would like to learn more on the swap though
I lied...

wont help you much, OD that is. you cant floor it in OD unless the aod in those is different than the fox. that is unless you either tune it (not sure if the computer controls od in those cars) or modify it to do so. otherwise your stuck using like half throttle.
Thats one reason why the T-5 swap will be going in.

a wise choice
The last one I say on ebay was really expensive, anyone interested pm with offers. I'm not looking to make money hand over first, but not looking to "lose my shirt" either.
Also, speaking of speed limitation, the 86-88 tbird 5.0's are limited to 105 mph correct? I just finished my motor swap and knowing that is kinda depressing. Can they be modified(the computers) or changed out to increase this? Without major rewiring at the computer end? Just curious.
If you're going H.O power, get a speed density computer from a Stang, good to go.The H.O conversion (upgrade is super easy and well worth it).
88 only ecu's had the speed limiter.
Rich,
Super Coupes of that vintage came with 140mph speedos.
