Title: burning a dvd...
Post by: Beau on September 11, 2008, 12:53:32 PM
Owing to the legal matters of this, if nobody replies, I'll understand:hick:

With that disclaimer said, here's my problem:
When I burn a dvd, usually it has a vertical scrolling problem, however, I have successfully burnt a disc that didnt, with the same program and method as the others.

Is it just that some movies are encrypted, or something more serious?

I use Magic DVD Copier, and WinAVI to convert the files.

If someone knowledgeable wanted to pm instead of post openly, that's fine too, lol. ;)

I personaly do not copy DVDs (really, I don't). However, it sounds like a copy protection scheme is interfering with the copy step (as it should under normal cirspoogestances). It may also be your conversion software. Taking your question from a stand point that your copies are for legal purposes under copyright laws, you may want to look for updates to or an updated version of the software that you use. You may also want to try other commercial software like Nero, Roxio, etcetera and see if the problem goes away. There is also the possibility that there is a driver/hardware/software issue which is creating or adding to the problem.

its probably a sony dvd. i have a buddy i can ask about this. i never burn the dvds i rip though, only rip them and store them on dedicated hard drives for use with my home theater pc.

nero 8 is probably the best dvd burner out there. i use "dvd fab 5", "dvd shrink" and "any dvd" to rip with. one of these usually will solve an issue i have with another. Power dvd is great for playback.

Most newer movies can't be un-encrypted using older software, unless it's been updated for the new era of encryption .
most newer encryption causes rippers to run in a loop and encrypt basicly nothing, while not ever seeing the encrypted file and code.(sony's a big fan of the new encryption)
And for posting sake, I'm sure your just making a backup of a purchased DVD, right? ;)

I've also heard of software that might still do what you want to achieve. But you may or may not need a Mac to do it. :D

Absolutely, I watch a lot, so was just looking for a way to back them up so my expensive dvd's could be safe ;)

I may just do as Shame said, rip them to a hard drive and use 'em from there...

I personally don't advocate the piracy of movies...after all, the Vin Diesels and Brad Pitt's all need a meal ticket too :D

Google " Dvd Shrink" and download it.

delete all 0 byte duration files using dvd shrink and then try burning and see if that solves your backing up problem. ;)

I guess I'll jump in the pool here. My "buddy" uses anydvd and CloneDVD2 both from Slysoft. I "hear" they work flawlessly, you can try for free for around 30 days also. Seriously I do lots of home movie and DVD stuff and those programs work really well and I've tried lots of different DVD copy programs and editing programs.
Shame302 nice setup, very nice to see homemade speakers. Do you use partsxpress or ??
legal disclaimer -----> Oh and don't copy movies thats illegal

everything (X-over components, tangband and dayton drivers and some hardware) came from parts express save for the Fountek NeoCD3.0 ribbon tweeters. those came from madisound. the electronics, the sub components and loose ends were all sepperate purchases. i still have to tear them down and decide on a finnish. the problem with that is the down time. im very happy with them. you would have to spend easily thousands of dollars to find a speaker of the same calibre in a store. amazing sound and design.

When in doubt check this site out http://www.videohelp.com/ That is the place you can get the DL on what to use. I will tell you The key is DVD Shrink. That is the best shrinbker burner there is for this. Then all you need is DVD decrypter or Fab DVD decrypter. Both of witch are on that site I gave you the link to. And for those out of the loop Yes you can Dub most any movie with those two programs. Try it you will like it. Trust me these work! If those don't work then MY DVD plater must be the excetion to the rule. Oh and so should my Playstation 2 they both play what ever I burn with those.

if your feeling real ambitious you can rip blue ray as well but the files are huge. in losless form T2 ran 22 gigs and F.O. ran 40 gigs. you would need a Blue ray drive though...about 160 bucks.

Well, I burned another disc, and it plays on a friend's dvd player, but the audio is a bit ahead of the video...like the video has about half a second or so of lag....i used dvd shrink 3.2, dvd decrypter, and nero 8 to burn?

Is there a redundancy of compression here, or...?

Other than that, I think I need a new home dvd player, lol :punchballs:

you guys and your windows computers.
so many programs to do simple things. LOL

What kind of disks do you use?
what speed do you record at?

I use Memorex DVD+R, and Nero automatically sets the best burning speed, but I think i can change it to a slower setting.

Could be the + that is your problem
- disks are more compatible.

I've used these for years. They play in everything and are rated among the best in compatibility.

This is all you should have needed. Dvd shrink can remove the protection/encrytion itself. I haven't used Nero 8 so I can't attest to how well it works (I still use 7). Also as mentioned, use "-" R's if your burner can handle them. The idea is to streamline things and let as few prog's touch the process as possible. Makes the trouble shooting process easier ;) !

I still think it's the +R disks that is the problem, or your decryption program needs to be updated

Let's just say I discovered the value of dvdfab 5. It rips, burns, and basically backs up...like all my star wars movies. My Episode III disc was starting to freeze up..so the backed up copy will be handy :D lol.

Wasn't my discs so much as just finding a program that worked, and was user-friendly enough to understand the gist of.
I DID try some dvd-r discs...one of the progs. I was using wouldn't even recognize them...to date, I think I threw away 7 discs that were otherwise bunged up...not bad, considering.
Thanks for all the help, and just wanted to give closure to this thread. ;)
