Title: Speaker Issue....
Post by: V8Demon on September 01, 2008, 08:28:41 PM
The volume has stopped working on any web-page or online application on my computer.....

iTunes works as it should.  I can hear all the music I play through it.  The issue seems to be with Windows media player.  All the settings for it are at max volume but I hear nothing when I try to play any type of media through it -- audio or video.

Any ideas?

I'm running Windows Vista with the latest media player version.  I have done no updates of any sort between when it worked and now....

I'd try to re-install the sound card drivers. Other then that, sounds like a microsoft problem. Maybe re-installing direct x?

Why would a sound card driver work in some applications and not others?

IE

I did a search for new files since the 29th.  Nothing noteworthy.
I did a restore to 3 days earlier.  Problem solved; although I'd like to know what the cause was still...

What most likely happened was that IE lost the program associations for media files. It's windows, it just happens sometimes.

I had a similar issue recently on XP. Found that re-installing Adobe Flash and Macromedia players fixed the issue.
