Post by: irv on July 24, 2008, 03:41:47 PM
seeings ford has so many module #'s for the 5.0 each year
for manual and automatic which tfi module do you guys
run in your cars when they are modified or gone from the
SO to HO or beyond in power .or does it matter. and does it matter if it is motorcraft or aftermarket? i try to stay oem w/ emission and
electrical stuff. just trying to assemble all the parts to dump
the 92 HO motor in later this year.--thanks!--irv:bowdown:

Doesn't matter so or ho,all it does is send the voltage signal through for when to fire the plugs.
Still using the aftermarket stock equivilent in my 500hp beast.

Yeah just pull the distributer out of the engine in the XR7 and stick it in the HO. That's what I did with mine. Plus I'm still running the 20 year old factory original TFI :wtf: I know it's original because I have all of the repair reciepts from when the car was new until now and it has never been changed. Must be some kind of record or something.......

NEVER swap a iron gear dist into a roller cammed engine or vice versa... The soft gear will be eaten by the steel one...

Its kinda like this All the V8's with a Dizzy mounted TFI take the same part number. Borg Warner CBE24. Most of even the 4 bangers take the CBE24 TFI. The difference comes in when it is for a 6 or remote mounted unit. As for how long they last it is all about how much heat you put them trough. I've been running a Motorcraft since my last on went south. I remote mounted it behind the grill. I can say the one I replaced was a parts store cheapy.

motorcraft has about 8 #'s for the mustang ,tbird and
cougar, some even different for manual or auto on the
5.0 wonder whats the big difference?

the guy at the ford dealer told me the only difference between them is the temp. the unit itself runs at. hopefully someone a bit more credible can shed some light on whether thats true or not?
what id like to know if there is a better one, or any other one to use on my v6, being how expensive it is and all:punchballs: (id like the one that doesnt say "made in hong kong" on it :P)
the only reason i bothered to ask them was when i went there yesterday to find out how much one was going to cost me(along with a PIP thingy).

There is no more borg and warner, standard bought them out.
they list a exspensive one and a cheaper one in there line.
I don't know why they carry a cheap line, but its roughly $80 cheaper.

Yep borg warner and Standard are the same parts. I'll tell you why they offer 2 grades of parts. I used to rebox parts from other brands to Borg Warner then they have there Select line. Well for me to put it in a box I got an interchange list "x brand #" = This Borg Warner #. I could slap any brand they told me into a regular Borg Warner box but if it was something that was headed for a Select Box it had to be sent off the Borg Warner and checked to see if it holds up to there test. That has got to be better than regular joe taking it from one box and putting it in there box. I've pulled parts out of the box in front of customers before and it says NAPA Echlin on it. That doesn't look to hot when you aren't a NAPA! Not that Napa parts are bad but if your store Y and your part say store X on it that kinda make you say HHHHUUUUMMMMMMM! I does look nice when I pull the part out and is says motorcraft on it. When Borg if running low and needs parts they talk with OEM and buy parts from them.
