I know I am new one here but, please bear with me on this one.I am building a 1981 Malibu(I am a Ford and chevy guy LOL),the 8.5s are getting hard to find this is why alot of Gbody (malibus, montes and cutlasses etc )are going to the ford 8.8 for almost a direct bolt up.Its on Maliburacing.com with pics of one.Any way, I bought a 1988 cougar xr7 8.8 but, axles were gone( I know yall gonna hate me here on this question)Does anyone know why I cant get almost any axle to work on the right side?I got the axles out of a 94 or 05 mustang (29 15/16s)one went in good and the other,I had to grind about an 1/8 th off the disc end for it to go in so I could get my c clip on.I went back over to the salvage yard and got a 30 1/8 axle but, when I slid it in the axle on the outer side looks like it is ground a little different from the factory, that made it slide in more.I just seen alot of good info on here and wanted to ask if you all could help me understand about the reason the axle on that side wont work with out some help.I also live by about 10 salvage yards here on the lower gulf coast(just have to make sure none of the cars are like my truck,A katrina victim.my truck took on water over the top for about 6 hours,I bought some corrosion X and been driving it ever since.I even race it in Mobile,Al on sat nights in the street class(its an ol 88 chevy 305 smokin ol work truck). If i can help with looking fro parts let me know.I do know that while I was at at least 3 places tody, they had alot of cougars an t-bird and 1 linc mk 7.I do have some rear brake hardware for a mk7 if any of you need them you are welcome.thanks for your time and patience with me.Kenny-PsSorry about another axle thread.:D
sounds like you have a ****ed rear end.
i tired to read that three times and my head hurts now.
im gonna go with option "A", junk housing. 94 axles should fit perfectly in that housing.
Thanks,I have been beating my head against the wall on this one.I have tried several axles from rangers, mustangs and even aerostars.I took some of yall advise on here last night on the threads. You guys are awsome, thanks for taking time with me on this.I am sorry that was so long .thanks kenny-
Ok,I omit I wasnt holding my mouth right.I went back over today and bought another 94 mustang axle and it fell in.you were right.I even slid the other out and checked them both and they were the same.I went ahead and stayed with the set up for a 95 mustang disc brake for the 8.8.
I was at barrys u pull it today in Gulfport,Ms instead of mobile,Al,they have "Alllooottttts"of cougars and t -birds.let me know and Ill look for some parts if any of you need some.
I was gonna go with the lincmk7 disc brake set up,it will bolt up but,the axle are longer and would stick out more than I like.the linc had the 7.5 in it.Thanks for all your help on this.If I can help let me know.Ps-sorry about making your head hurt.mine has been up against the wall here lately. lol
