"That", is why FoMoCo is in danger of extinction. Rather than making vehicles somebody might actually want, they come up with "that". When Ford dies, a picture of "that" should be engraved on its headstone.

In 50 years, it will be the '57 Chevy of this century. Like how the 57 was outsold by the Ford Crown Vic, this rare POS will be desirable because of it's scarcity, coveted by morons etc. Instead of investing in the future, Ford builds Compensators for the poorly endowed. They should come standard with a puppies prescription and a rug.
Will Ford die? Probably not. In a couple of years, when they're really desperate, the powers that be will put some real car enthusiasts in charge. again. The company will become profitable. again. Then the bean counters will start whining about how they aren't making enough money because car guys are running the show. again. Then Fords will start getting fat, slow, stupid, and ugly. again.

You know guys it's all a matter of personal taste and preference. There are PLENTY of people who say things like, "WTF is that an old 80's Cougar/Thunderbird!?!?!??!!" Plenty of people see the 80's Cougars and T-Birds as ugly and mechanically . I don't, but many people are saying exactly what you're saying about the Mark LT except about your car. See what I'm trying to say?

Saw one today...
So whats the big deal guys??? It's just a dolled up F-250, in actuality Ford likely spent very little on the rehash(most of the styling was no doubt courtesy Navigator)... If they can cut a little sliver of sales, why not???
Yeah and then I'm very happy with my '07 Grand Marquis... Like being in your easy chair at 70mph... AND with the rack and pinion it actually handles very good...

This is what I'm talking about calling that thing a MARK is like calling the Grand Wizard"yep you know da one" the N-word! Is just shouldn't be. The mark is there top dog 2-door coupe "HOT ROD LINCOLN!" Not some dressed up pick-up. Henry is rolling over right now! Why I ask WHY? To me it is just WRONG WRONG WRONG! I guess that is why I don't run the place. I'd be making fun cars on the cheap!

Its made for those who won't own a ford but the name lincoln makes it seem like something else even if you take the dash apart and all the computers say ford.
Same thing almost with Lexus for those who won't own a Toyota but want something with class. Someone in my family has a Lexus IS350 and they got mad when i told them nice toyota but i mean really thats what it is.

So horribly true... although the same goes for GM, Chrysler (well... maybe),etcetera.

I agree! What I love about sitting at the light with someone in a new car/truck looking at my '88 XR7 like it is an ugly piece of junk is that:
1) It may be old, but it is not junk. It has actually been the best car I have owned when it comes to dependability. I have owned this one for 7 years now and I have only had it towed once!
2) The features in the '87-'88 models; nearly every new or recent model car or truck on the road today shares one or more design features, even the expensive cars like Lexus, Audi, BMW, etcetera! The car actually "fits in" even though it is 20 years old!
3) With a set of Arizonian Silver Edition tires, I can move through 4-6 inches of snow better than 60-70% (maybe higher) of the non 4x4/All Wheel Drive vehicles on the road and sometimes even better than some 4x4/AWD vehicles!
4) Ok, so it is not "brand new", so what?!?! I have no car payment, insurance is cheaper, repairs are easier, it has snappy performance, a real trunk (well, not when compared to the "real" trunks... I mean caves... of the '50s and '60s) and I can seriously upgrade the performance without breaking ten digits! I have to admit that the fuel mileage is a bit less than some of the new/newer higher end cars, but all of the rest listed above outstrip the higher fuel cost!
5) Oh, forgot the the spots where the paint is thin now, some flaking clear coat and a few other minor cosmetic things. But hey, what they see is original paint and body work (VIN tags still on both fenders and quarter panels) despite 13 years in the South Florida Sun, 7 Michigan Winters and a bit over 240,000 miles!

Yup. Like the Mazda B2000 is a Ford Ranger, some Fords are Mazda and visa versa. GM (H2 = Yukon with BLING, H3 = TrailBlazer with BLING) and Chrysler (The Eagle Talons, etc.) do the same thing. The Blackwood/Mark LT is Ford's response to the Cadillac Escalade (Chevy Pickup with the Avalanch converson and lots of BLING)... nuf said.

Our build mix on those is every 6 trucks. They ain't selling at all.
Under the body, it is EXACTLY like an F-150.
I have built the frames, drivshafts, interior panels, carpeting, you name it. It is all the same.

And someone out there is probably raving about the dependability, power, comfort, etc.... of their Mark LT. Personally I think they look pretty cool and am by no means insulted by the name they chose, and heck, I'm a Mark VII driver. So what it's the same as an F-150, maybe I don't want a typical F-150. Maybe I want something different. Again, personal preference is the name of the game when it comes to cars.

Well I hope so..
My Ford stocks are kickin my folders ass :beatyoass:
As for the LT.
It makes a lot of sense to market a $50k+ gussied up F-150 when gas is $4.00 a gal and the soccer moms are buying V-6 vans.
Thats FOMOCO as of late though.:flame:

GM announced major SUV layoff & bye-bye Hummer.

It isn't a vehicle the soccer moms are gonna buy even if gas was $2.00 a gallon... The market it's aimed at doesn't care what it costs or what the MPG is...

I agree totally! I hope I did not give the wrong impression... I do like how a great many vehicles look and the model name on the trunk means little to me. If I can't afford to buy one, assuming I would want to in the first place, I don't worry about it. If I can afford one but the quality is poor, I wouldn't buy one. Many of the points made so far really show Capitalism at its' best (and maybe worst too); If one or more people want something and have enough money to convince someone else to create what they want, it will happen in most cases even if it is doomed to loss of sales over time, is limited production or one of a kind.
Besides, I should have mentioned this earlier, those of us who are into the "Fox" T-Bird, Cougar, Mark VII, Capri and Mustang are essentially driving around in a modified FAIRMONT!
So I ask: WTF is up with that? :D

They must care somewhat as they are NOT selling.
Same theory with the Ford Expedition Limited that costs $50k+. A few years back when the SUV craze was in full swing, I dont know how many little soc moms I saw adjusting the gas and brake pedals to the front of the driver seat and tooling around all over hell getting that 12mpg.
Now days I see the same stock of SUVs at the local Ford dealer sit for MONTHS.
Even rich folks wake up some days and realize that they are paying out the ass for fuel.

Newer cars aren't any better on gas imo. My neon gets the same mileage as my tbird, and it has 2.5 times the motor. If they wanted to make cars get better gas mileage then they should start cutting down on weight. Cars have been getting worse gas mileage overall since 1987. The weight of cars has also almost doubled. Thats why there's so many v-8's now adays compared to 10 years ago. The 3.8 v-6 got the mn-12 birds around, kinda. The fox's you could at least spin the tires, and that is with 20 to 50 less horse power.

My MN12 T-Bird (1991 V6 model) would have run rings around my '85 Fox T-Bird (V6 carbureted), in a straight line, on the twisties, and economy-wise. Still wasn't enough to overcome the multiple mechanical issued the POS had, though...
While I agree that cars have gotten way too heavy and fuel economy peaked years ago, it certainly wasn't 1987, the days of carburetors and TBI in econocars. It was more like 1997. My '96 Saturn SL1, with its 5-speed and 2200 pound curb weight, will easily do 40-45 MPG on the highway with the A/C on. So will any number of mid 90's Civics, Tercels, Escorts, Protege's, etc.
The problem is that just about when fuel economy peaked, fuel was cheaper than ever and nobody cared. They walked past the Escorts and bought Explorers. Past the Metros and bought Jimmys. Past the Tercels and bought FourRunners. And so on...

my older (84?) mazda b2000 was carbed and got in the neighborhood of 35 mpg. It was over 3000lbs if I had to guess, but it had no a/c, powersteering, stick instead of auto...
I'm fairly unimpressed with every cars gas mileage I have ever driven mad after about 94. They make more power, but the first time you floor it, you notice at the pump.
