A local forum was having a big event at Rockingham dragway, which is the nearest 1/4mi to me (2 hour drive). I decided to go down there and see what the Tbird would do; I expected to just barely squeeze into the 14s...
First run: 14.786 @ 93.97
Second run: 14.756 @ 94.85
Third run: 14.662 @ 94.87
The ol' Tbird was haulin pretty good. I also entered in the daily driver event, which was made for an 18sec bracket. I won that (and yes, every car entered was faster than 18s) and got a small trophy. I'll post time slip scans later...im wiped out from the drive.
Nice times! Must have been fun winning the event too.
Congrats!! Now, where are the trophy pictures?
I did get a trophy for winning the DD event...I'll have pics for you all tomorrow. However, it does seem like my rear main seal leak is gettin a bit worse :( .
Not bad. Makes me wanna try bracket racing in my gf's shadow. I think it would be pretty consistent with the auto.
Now, I know you've talked about your (good) fuel economy and all. But does your speedo gear match your rear gears and such? Cause if your speedo is off, your odometer will be off too, and thus mileage calculations.
Most of my gas mileage calculations were done before I had the gears done, and for the few I have done afterwards, I took 10% off of the miles number. Mileage has stayed the same so I dont bother calculating much anymore.
WOW! Dude that's siiiiiick. Congrats! Yep these ol' barges can run alright. That settles it. Definitely gonna have to run mine after I get MY gears in.
that's smoking fast for how "stock" that car is (stock HO)!!! Impressive! What were the 60's? Of course we want pics and slips for the Top 25 (you moved up quite a few!).
Sounds like you've got something good going on with that car. Must have done something right when you put it together, because I know a lot of mustangs with rather stock HO's and AOD's that don't run that quick. Good job man.
Bet you weren't expecting that from me
Haha well I'm sure I may have rubbed some people the wrong way when talkin about how my car runs, but now I've got the proof to back it up (expect pics/scan very soon). I appreciate the compliments. Going to the track, I decided I'd be happy just to break a 14.99. Now after those 3 runs, I'm convinced she'll do ~14.40s in perfect, cool weather (I gained a tenth just by letting the weather cool down just a tad). But yesterday was great; 75 degrees, not a cloud in sight, and lots of nice cars. A few suprises too, like a VW Golf that seemed stock until it bolted down the track to an 11.70 E/T.
It's also worthy to note that I really think the 3.27 gears are great for 1/4mi runs with the AOD. Guys I were talkin to at the track say that you always want your car to be right in its power band at the end of the track, so I kept an eye on that for my last 2 runs. Right as I'm about to cross the line, she's spinnin ~4,000rpm in 3rd gear and pulling haaaaaard (I wish the track was a little longer :hick: ).
Very cool, and I agree, that motor is DEFINATLY solid and STRONG! hell you are running the same tims and MPH that my bird was, and I had a T5 and GT40 intakes and some other little tricks, mind you my HO had over 300kms on it and was tired.
:burnout:
Good job.
What were you 60ft times?
I'll post all my slip numbers (except for R/T....you dont wanna see those haha)

And the trophy...

LOL at the trophy. Sweet.
Needless to say that I am very proud of my Son and his accomplishments!!!!! Both in the car and in life:D
One proud Dad!!!!:D
good solid times man!!!
hahaha too bad the trophy says "beater" cause you dont have anything near a beater!!
Shows how important it is to take care of your ride!! A stock 5.0HO, with an exhaust running good times. Why? Cause you take care of it, so it runs strong!
Yeah, there were a few other cars in the beater race that were even nicer than mine, like a mid 14sec turbo Focus, 12 sec 3rd gen Camaro and a 13sec F250 diesel.
good job, dude! what are the next mods?
Thanks!
As for my next mods...

Lookin to run mid 13s next year
well, what's the news on the new motor? how far have you got?
Currently waiting for funds. We're going to refresh the bottom end, then I'll work on getting my custom grind cam.
stock stroke bottom end?
Yeah, the bottom end will stay stock.
You actually have a few tenths in traction and suspension in there too.
Definitely; I'm sure it wouldnt take much to get my current setup into the high 13s.
converter and sticky tires
