Title: T5 in an '84 LS V6
Post by: fordman3 on March 07, 2005, 08:27:00 PM
Hey all,
I have an opportunity to obtain all the 5-speed T5 goodies from an '88 Turbo Coupe (tranny, shifter, hydraulic clutch, pedal assembly, etc.) at a reasonable price, assuming the tranny is alright.  My question is, how hard would it be to connect a T5 to my V6 (yeah, for now I need to keep the 6, even though an 8 would be nice).  Most of the info I've read relates T5's to V8's or I4's, but not necessarily to the V6.  I've read that the I4 hydraulic clutch can't be used with the 5.0, but can it be used with the V6?  What other parts would be involved?  Flywheel, bell housing, tranny crossmember, exhaust hardware, etc.?  Does my ECU care if I've got a manual or an auto?  I just thought I'd make myself a unique '84 LS and make it a little more fun to drive.  If I don't do this, I at least want to make it a floor-shift auto car instead of a column.  Which will be easier?  Thanks.

you'll need the flywheel/bellhousing/clutch/fork/cable/quadrant/etc. from a SN-95 V6. though i believe the 5.0 bellhousing will work too. someone else was considering the pros and cons of this swap so maybe they'll chime in here in a sec and verify a few things. ^_^

Did the SN-95 V-6 T-5's have a longer input shaft like the SN-95 5.0 T-5's did?

If so you will need a tranny to go with the SN-95 bell and stuff...
