is this something you can have on a street car? or is it too complicated/expensive to worry about? it's an AOD
It's fairly easy to install, the line lock is for your brakes not trans.
There is a trans brake also if that is what you are thinking of for the AOD. Summit sells kits for line lock.
Line lock is basically an electrically controlled valve. Step on the brakes, press the line lock, release the brakes. The line lock holds the pressure on the front brakes and releases the rear.
I see said the blind man :hick:
so which would be better/cheaper? line lock or trans brake? I'm assuming the trans would be more complicated and expensive.
no wonder I couldn't find anything searching for "aod line lock" :giggle:
Line lock is cheaper.
U use to the line lock to lock the front wheels so u can do a burn out.
Some people use the line lock to hold the back wheels when they load the car to race.
Trans brake is used to lock the tranny in 1st and R so u can rev the motor higher in the Power ban get more powe to the tires and not spin the tires wile staged and ready to go
so is it worth it to get it? IIRC a line lock greatly improves the 60ft times and launches. or should I spend my $$ on something else? I think it'd just be cool to say "Well I have line lock on my car ;)"
also, which would be better? locking the front tires or the rear?
You'll need some really good brakes in the rear if you use it out back.. Likely it would creep out of the stage beam, with the stock Bird binders(even the TC discs)..... I'd go with it out front...
so is it useful enough to get? seems like it's ~100 for a kit
Up to you, but I'd spend some money for sticky tires.
I don't have one, but it ain't legal in the class I run in....
To his deaf wife? :D
I thought it was illegal to have a line lock on a street car? i'm sure theres different laws everywhere but this is what I heard.
I don't know what any classes are, the only track time it'd see is every so often at a test n tune kinda deal.
quick google shows nothin :dunno:
well, its cheeper to learn how to heal toe....line loc is cool, fun and easier on the brakes if you are gonna just use it for burnin out though.
I thought heel-toe was used in cornering, with a stick shift :dunno:
it is. sorry, i was thinking stick. i use the same method for brake standing the car and staging/torquing up the car for launch (5 speed). obviously u can easilly use 2 feet with an automatic. i always thought it was stupid to rev the engine, drop the clutch and jump over to the brake to brake stand a car like so many do....it just looks amatureish and "hacked". much like my spelling
lol, I just use 2 feet, I only have 2 pedals :p and I thought a line-lock would greatly improve your launches :dunno:
I'd get, but then again I am actually getting one.
Reason why is last year I wore out the rear brakes going to all the races I wnt to last year for my club championship. I would buy it just to save the brakes for doin burnouts. Plus you get a more consistant burn out.
well, my look on it was you could put more torque on the car with 4 brakes holding it than yo u could with 2 weather it was line locked in the front or the back. the only value i ever saw in them was the ability to bake the tires off the car without smoking the breaks. its always sounds cool to be able to say you have line lock.
I could care less about weather its "cool" to have a line lock. If it saves me from doing the rear drum brakes on my car every 8 months i'm happy.
Did I metion I hate doin brake jobs on drum brakes.
why could'nt a typcial gate valve be installed in line with the front brakes being operated by a cable. all that wont cost no more than 10 to 20 bux plus a reclaimed choke cable from an old pick up or similar.
gate valve- like what you would consider to be an ON and OFF valve for an Air Compressor system in a shop. Like the ones used to cut off air supply. Those things come in many shapes sizes, male/femal so you could mate it to a compression fitting on each side.
to operate it,, i think something along the lines of the old pickups with the choke cable up in the cab.
far more simple and eliminates so many parts. Need a line lock then pull in the cable.,, undo line lock then push it back in. could be a trigger device on a stick shift which is spring loaded so it opens back up after you let go of the trigger.
neet idea but would that be safe and reliable?
did i miss something?
same application as this.http://bcbroncos.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=49
its the same as a gate valve but is defered when presure is off.
still mounts in your cab
still have to reach and push something
hmmm, i know it says not to use it as an ebrake but......
