Title: trans question. i hope someone knows. AOD.
Post by: CougarCoupe88 on March 06, 2005, 08:59:53 PM
well after pulling the motor and trans out of the cougar. we broke abort the trans from the motor. get it upside down. take the pan and valve body off. wipe away. the fluid and what do we see a "C" od servo.  :bs:  . i would have thought for sure that it was gonna be a "B" servo.  Being it had a Tow Package. so was the tow package just Breaks. or did they use some tougher internals like stronger clutches.?

and does anything with a V8 Come with a "B" od servo.
(i really need to go talk to a trans shop).

maybe i should get the cougar Trans Freshend up? b4 it goes in the stang. it's my last one i have.. and im unsure. bc it shift fine and felt way stronger than the one in the stang when i got it. or the one i put in.  iedeas??..  im sorry about all these questions. i hate having problems like this.. hope someone can help .

Dunno about the tow package and tranny build, but I'm fairly sure just the HO 5.0s and Poilce 5.8s got the "B" servo, while the SC and pickups got the "A"(pickups also got a larger 2'' band). From what I hear and read, the clutch packs are the same on all the V8 and SC trannys.

The servo only engages the OD band, has nothing to do with the other shifts. Unless you are gonna try to run wide open in OD the "B" is fine.

The day I picked up my car from the previous owner he handed me a reciept for the new AOD that had been installed.  Upon comparing it to the odometer I noticed that the car had only been driven 98 miles since it was put in and when I took the car home.  After about 5K I put in the TransGo and noted I had the B servo.  Sorry bout the long story, but it leads me to this....Tom, even the 5.0 SO came stock with a C servo? I thought just the V6 cars with AOD got that.  Could it be that Cougar Coupe's car had already had the trans replaced prior to his buying it?  Or perhaps just the servo and the installer of the servo paid no mind to the big letter stamped on it?

Hummm.. guess I had a brain lapse, but I have seen V8 trannys with the C... or maybe they had been swapped, dunno....

Here's what baumann says(but isn't exactlly specific).

no. no.  the mustang i bought HAD a B servo. but that Trans burnt up. i swaped the trans out for an Extra that i was gonna rebuild it came out of a 3.8 87 bird.. and we put the trans go in AND ONLY CHANGED THE C TO a B Servo. (that was our mistake i think.) and i never knew about the govenors being differnt.. so i think i may have this trans i have now. upgraded to stronger and beter stuff.  i now have the trans out of my V6 88 with a tow package. im just gonna tell the shop what it's going into and what my plans are and see how much they say.  i think it wont cost much bc it's in great working order .

If in doubt, err on the high side of normal, because too much TV pressure is always better than too little.

from tv rod link inside.

is this one of the reasons why you suggest the tv rod be a little on the hard shifting side?

pretty interesting and easy reading there
