Whats that thing called? You know, the sheet-like thing with all the wires in it thats on the back of buttstuffog clusters.
I ripped the piece off that connects to the IVR and now everythings gone haywire. Can you buy new ones anywhere or do I need to run to the JY? Thanks in advance!
that sucks where you trying to it or did it just happen?
No I was pulling it out of the IVR and it snapped out fast. It's real weak...
That sucks i have taken mine out 2 or 3 times don't like to unless the blubs are no good anymore. hope you get it fixed do you got a buttstuffog or digatal dash?
its called flex print and yes it can be repaired. it's real easy to do and the laminate splits apart rather easy.
mine on the white coug was intermittant to the speedo. There is a narrow band of flex print that feeds the speedo and a couple runs were cracked. I just split the laminate and soldered in 24awg wiring to close the gaps.
buttstuffog with 140 speedo.
Thanks for the tip JCass, I'll see what I can do.
just split the flex apart
lightly s each solder run needing attention to remove any factory clear coat
find you an old phone cable with solid wire and get a few 1'' long sections.
leave insulation on the wire as much as possible with about 1/8'' wire showing on each end.
add some solder to the flex run on the flex print keeping it melted
use tweezers to grab the wire and train it into the solder on the flex run.
If your copper wire your using has solder tin on it already , then good. if it does not have a solder coating, you will have to s the copper to clean it then tin each wire.
Sounds like a solid fix. It's on a curved portion which could add some fun but I can make it work. Thanks!
Just an overdue update:
Grabbed the IVR and the flex print from an '87 at the JY for $15 and everything works good.
