Title: Difference between HO and SO oil dipstick tube?
Post by: thunderjet302 on February 08, 2008, 12:16:19 AM
Just wondering but is there a difference between the SO and HO dipstick tube? On my engine I reused my stock dipstick tube when I did the HO swap. Problem is I have to pull the dipstick tube out to get the plug out of cylinder #7 because the GT40P heads have that funny plug angle. I though if I grabbed the dipstick tube from a Mustang or Mark VII at the yard it might solve my problem:hick:

Grab one from an Explorer.  If any one is different that's gonna be the one.  I've never put an SO and HO tube side by side but they look the same..

The only differences I've seen in the tubes is the one for the Mark VII.  Its bent forward to clear the abs unit.

When I had the GT40P heads, I remember bending the tube and/or attachment tab (that goes to the header bolt) a bit to allow me to pull that spark plug, which I was able to do. I did use a special cut socket though which may have helped.
