Title: Shift kit?
Post by: capitlj on September 30, 2007, 01:46:31 AM
I'm going to be reworking my linkage on my trans again and was thinking about putting in a B&M shift kit just for kicks.  My car has about 110,000 miles on it and had the filter changed for the first time about 15,000 miles ago would it be a bad idea to put in a shift kit?  I'd really hate to grenade it because its old.

I have said this before, so I will say it again...I use B&M and have never had a problem. As far as I am concerned those are both reputable companies to get parts from. The choice in the end, is up to you.

Ive been told to stay away from B&M, While the stuff is OK its not worth it. Theres a company i was told to use by Silverfox on FvC, he is THE GUY to go to for AOD parts! Ill find the site they have a good shift kit for 40 bucks, which he says is a great product.

what I was told about B&M is there were a good company that made good products but presently there’s to much thinking going on with management (trying to make a profit) and the product quality goes up and down depending on how’s making the calls so you don’t know what your getting w/them. It’s a roll of the dice.
I used transgo on my old AOD very happy w/it. Yes it was more but the deciding factor for me was the above stated and the fact that transgo specializes in valve body’s only nothing else.

I don't have any experience with anything other than B&M, but everywhere I go, it's transgo this and transgo that...so there is obviously something to it.

I had the B&M kit in my old AOD car for about 2 1/2 years without any problems...and I manually shifted the  out of that car on a regular basis...that shift kit(and whole valvebody for that matter) now resides in another guy's AOD, who happens to be a member here.  The B&M kit does NOT allow full-throttle shifts into OD, which is a feature I like.

I have the Transgo reprogrammer kit in my V6 AOD and it really firmed up the shifts. I'm very happy with it so far. The installation is fairly involved but not to difficult.

This is who I have been using for pretty much all the trannys I build.  They make nice shift correction kits, and their Fairbanks division for performance is great.  Never had a problem with them.

As many of you know, the object of a shift kit is to make the engagement faster with less slip.  Less slip = less wear and heat on the clutch materials.  If your trans is still functioning properly, a shift kit should add life to it.

I looked on jegs and summit and it was pretty steep.  I sell the B&M kit through O'Reilly for like $40
